This was really open and less structured/austere than most montrose. Blackberry, plum, menthol, cassis and some earthiness. Lots of acid but ripeness to balance. Obviously better in 20 years but soft now.

Early Mar 2024, Rheingau Gourmet Festival, rarity diner “25 vintages of Chateau Montrose”: according to the sommelier double decanted for up to 6 hours!; deep purple color; bouquet of black cherries, black and red berries plus some chocolate; quite open on the palate; lush and round texture; full body. 94+?/100
Currently in a very open “crowd-pleaser” like phase. Reminds of a new world red blend.
Quite phenomenal in its youth, though perhaps more Napa than Bordeaux, surprisingly. Primordial fruit. With 24 hours of air, delivered nicely. Balanced alcohol with the ample fruit and acidity. Solid future.

Alcohol is a high 14.5% Ripe Xmas cake cherries blueberry. Packed. Tannic. All primary. Typical St Estephe masculine extroverted but lacking a little in elegance. NS

Deep ruby.
Incredible intensity on the nose. Lovely blackcurrant, black cherry, mint, graphite, cedar, sweet spices.
Amazing intensity on the palate. High acidity and tannins. Lovely finish.
*** Tasted as part of a walkaround 2018 Bordeaux tasting. Not full notes ***
