  • More red than black fruit flavour. Earthy notes, high complexity with good length, appealing acidity. Very good!

  • Cherry. Plum. Cedar. Mocha. So all the right flavours but lacked intensity. Not really a Margaux tasting wine. Medium bodied and perhaps lacking vibrancy. Poor QPR and lacks the fluid charm that I like about 2009 as a vintage. Don’t avoid if offered but perhaps don’t seek out!

  • Yum. Opened a bottle that was coravined twice in the past 6-8 months.

Very very lovely - tertiary notes immediately present and strong from opening the bottle. Lovely leather, oak, cinnamon and tobacco on the nose. The concentration of black fruit is still there, harmoniously balanced by licorice, leather and forest floor. This is a pleasure.

New hack for accelerated aging perhaps? This tastes more like a 20 year old giscours at this stage.

  • 2 hour decant. seemed simple vs. complex. Tannins fully integrated, but nothing special on the palate. Try again in 18 months.

  • The wine has medium intensity, fruit flavors have almost completely changed into aging aromas. Leather, Umami like Chinese spice and and a bit of a „amarone taste“, which might be the remnants of an earlier cherry flavor. Tannins are soft. Alcohol is well integrated. Nothing disturbs, nothing wows. In the glass, the wine does not change, I can’t detect complexity. To me no intellectual challenge, nothing to think about, but nice. I think further aging will not lead to any improvement. Nice experience, but for the price (130€) will not purchase more.

(Château Giscours) Barrel sample tasted in London on July 5, 2010. Less Cabernet than in 2008 (55%, with 40% Merlot and 5% Cabernet Franc). Although the wine is reductive and primary at the moment, the structure is still apparent: this is a big wine, and a considerable step up from the 2008 in terms of concentration. Perhaps it reflects the new era at Giscours more than the terroir. Drink from 2020 to 2035 and beyond. Winery Spotlight: Château Giscours
