nose- honey and some spices. a hint of burnt sugar mouth - honeyed, rich, lots of chardonnay fullness here. as it warms up the richness of flavor becomes even more evident. balanced by lovely acidity. long and vinous. I'm a fan. 50% 2019, 50% reserve wine, disg Spring '22, dosage 3dr/L

Much more delicate next to the blanc de noir. Shortbread cookies on the nose. Citrus toast on the palate. Softer acidity. My husband preferred this over the blanc de noir.

Slow to open out (as you tend to find with these wines)- green orchard and subtle citrus with chalky minerality/petrichor and delicate floral notes that slowly give up some complexity. Even these nonvintage bottles need aging. Quintessential clean style with racy acidity. The Perle always shows so much more when young.

Drinking beautifully I think this has to be at peak. Round, creamy, pure, elegant. Gorgeous mousse and of course still super fresh with a long stony chalk finish. Great start to cellar dabbling.

2017 as my previous bottle drunk in 2021, no obvious development to be found here. Supremely youthful, reserved and pure terroir.
Day 2 update: as my gf had caught the cold we had a glass’s worth left the next day. There is one word that describes the overnight development well: wow. The mousse has becoming absolutely palate-caressing and on the flavor profile there is now this incredibly delicious toastiness. If yesterday this was something to drink solely with food now I would not want anything to disturb the enjoymeny the wine offers on its own. I think the next bottle I will open one day in advance.

The final bottle of the six. It's getting better with age. Lemon and lime dominate the attack but there's also an underpinning of green pear. Medium plus acidity results in a very crisp finish.

No detailed notes but this was astoundingly good and likely approaching full maturity at 7 years post-disgorgement. Spring 2015 disgorgement, blend of 2010 and 2011 vintages plus reserve wines.

Sthlm Food & Wine Champagne-tastings (Älvsjömässan, Stockholm): (Disgorged in fall of 2022, base year 2019 with 50% reserves, 100% Chardonnay from Cramant, dosage 6 gr/L) Light yellow colour with a greenish hue and a still very youthful nose showing lemon citrus, chalkiness and some gunpowder as it opens up. Intense lemon citrus acidity reflecting the base year very well and takes a long time to open up in the glass with a chalky and buttery note on the mid and showing lots of pleasant lime zesty bitterness on the lengthy finish and leaving a saltiness on the lips from the minerals. Very accessible directly from the start! (Probably best with 3-9 years extra cellaring)

Flatiron Wine & spirits (San Francisco, Ca.): Another new producer, nose of sliced apple, brioche, honey, slate, shale, and chalk, same on the palate, tasty, needs 2 years to peak, medium body, mouth filling fruit, rich fruit, and a slightly creamy, medium/long finish, new producer for me, $68.

Tasted blind: this is in the “clean” style with pleasant green apple, minerality, petrichor and slight sweet bakery notes; the seductive nose gives no warning of the racy, punchy acidity on the palate. After the initial impact and dryness, this is very refreshing and palate-cleansing. 91+

100% Chardonnay from Grand Cru vineyards. The wine is composed of 2019 base vintage (50%) and reserve wines from one or two previous vintages, i.e. 2018-2017 (50%). Disgorged in winter 2021/22, after approx. 15-20 months of aging sur lattes. 12% alcohol, dosage 3 g/l, lot 22-01-440.
Youthful, pale and quite neutral whitish-green color. The nose feels dry and fresh with aromas of leesy autolysis, some ripe red apple, a little bit of creamy custard, light bready nuances and a hint of chalk dust. The wine is dry, firm and precise on the palate with a medium body and bright flavors of fresh red apple, some chalky mineral tones, a little bit of lemony citrus fruit, light leesy notes of creaminess, a hint of apple peel bitterness and an incisive touch of steely minerality. The high acidity lends good sense of focus to the wine and the mousse feels silky smooth and gentle. The finish is crisp, long and mouth-cleansing with dry and crunchy flavors of lemony citrus fruits and fresh green apples, some chalky tones, a little bit of steely minerality, light sweeter nuances of juicy white fruits and a balancing hint of apple peel bitterness.
A youthful, bright and focused Grand Cru Blanc de Blancs that feels like it is showing ever-so-slightly more brightness and intensity than the 2020 disgorgement based on 2017 vintage. Although very lovely wine in its own right, that previous disgorgement felt a bit more accessible but also slightly less vibrant and intense than this one, that comes across as slightly less open-knit and perhaps calling a bit more age in a cellar. This is still a terrific BdB that is very approachable already now, but I would let the wine age at least a few years more so that it would pick up some additional depth and complexity while also resolving that slightly taut, coiled nature. Promising stuff and an excellent purchase at 26€.

Nice complexity on the nose, a tad bit foamy initially but it settled down. The bubbles we're fairly large. Not unusual. As it warmed up the sweetness emerged a little more. Okay

Classic Champagne that checks all of the boxes and has distinct character, though not a "wow" wine by any stretch. Would probably benefit from 3ish years in bottle after release and is sadly enjoyable at the price point. Favors a brighter chalkier side and would not marry as well with intensely flavored Asian fare as would, say, a Moet Imperial, but all in all a better wine package for the wine connoisseurs out there.

100% Chardonnay from Grand Cru vineyards. The wine is composed of 2017 base vintage (50%) and reserve wines from one or two previous vintages, i.e. 2016-2015 (50%). Disgorged in autumn 2020. 12% alcohol, dosage 3 g/l, lot 21-01-353.
Pale lemon-yellow color. Fresh, subtly sweet-toned nose with aromas of ripe and juicy yellow fruits, some leesy yeast, a little bit of fresh golden apple, light woolly tones and finally a nuanced, autolytic hint of marzipan. The wine feels ripe and juicy yet fresh and dry on the palate with a medium body and pure flavors of golden apples, some pomelo-driven citrus fruits, light floral notes of apple blossom, a little bit of steely minerality, a hint of chalky bitterness and an autolytic touch of oven-fresh pastry. The balanced acidity feels moderately high and ample mousse feels creamy and silky smooth. The finish is ripe yet dry with nuanced flavors of fresh apple, some creamy notes of autolysis, a little bit of balancing chalky bitterness, light sweet notes of juicy white fruits, a tangy hint of salinity and a touch of marzipan.
A wonderfully pure, balanced and enormously drinkable Blanc de Blancs which clearly exhibits obvious fruit ripeness without any sense of weight or overt sweetness. Although the wine isn't sweet in any way, it certainly doesn't taste as bone-dry or lean as one would expect from a young Blanc de Blancs clocking at 3 g/l RS. Although this is nothing mind-blowing, the combination of pure fruit, ripeness and balanced structure are just on point; the overall feel is very harmonious and hands-down delicious. This wine really drinks itself. Shows good potential for further development - most likely will get only better over the next 4-7 years, if not longer. A very positive surprise for a wine based on the difficult 2017 vintage, outrageous value at 24,50€.

Delicious .grower champagne from v small producer (2,500 cases/annum. Very distinctive fine and energetic mousse. First taste just tiny bit sweet apple but quickly goes to a steely dry finish. I suspect will last a long time, this was 50% 2017 vintage, 50% reserve wines in adjacent consecutive years disgorged only recently (winter 20/21).

So classic on the nose: fresh, bright and stony with notes of green apple, lemon, crushed rock, smoke and iodine for days. Textbook stuff and massively on point. The mousse is totally mouthfilling with great density and persistence. The palate at first did not seem bone dry despite only 3 g/l dosage but got drier with some time. There is no lack of citrusy fruit but more than anything the flavor profile is thoroughly savory and takes you right to the ocean and the soil. Very firm and nicely dense. Totally harmonious and seamless with a finish that lingers delightfully, fading very slowly. Not as vinous as many grower wines nowadays, this was nothing short of perfect with sushi and the drinkability was on a mineral water level. This is an absolutely gastronomic wine and a purist’s dream. It does not try to win anyone over with its style but if dry, linear and powerfully acidic Chardonnay from Côte des Blancs is your thing then I can’t see how you would not love this.

2021 is seemingly turning into the year of Champagne for me and I gotta say, I could get used to this. Lilbert et Fils BdB GC NV comes in a rather unassuming package but more than makes up for it in substance. The nose is distinctive with aromas of slightly under ripe Taleggio and apples. On the palate, apples and citrus with lovely, persistent acid. Don’t sleep on this.
More expressive today than the ‘13 but this is still desperately needing time in the bottle. Very pale orchard fruits; pear with a bit of toasted apple and lemon with salty minerals. Incredible purity and maybe shows more toasty complexity than other vintages of this wine right now but its hard to tell. I would wait another 3-4 more years from now to try again.

DG Fall 2018; base 2015 First bottle of this cuvée. We expected more austere and even boring, but it was worth trying, despite being very young. We were surprised by how present and noticeable the Chouilly fruit was in this cuvée. Fruity intensity: oranges, lemons (natural and grilled), mandarins, and grapefruit; very mineral, a lot of chalk, wet stones, and fresh white flowers such as lilies, and orange blossom; there is a herbal side with aromatic herbs such as tarragon and rosemary; it really started to open up with several hours’ air, when some lactic notes began to show such as fresh milk and kefir, along with vanilla, and some light mushroomy notes. The potential that this wine has is very clear; however, it still needs time to come together, right now the wine is in an awkward place with a disjointed texture, we find this quite common in young wines from the Côte des Blancs. That said, it’s a pleasurable apéritif champagne, made with very good material. Lilbert is always a giver of joy. 89pt

As with the '13 vinage, this was tightly knit with lots of coiled energy that slowly gave way to more oceanic/sea salt impressions over-laying green apple, pear and lemon. Very pure and fresh, showing a soft, delicate quality on the midpalate with air time. A very restrained, reductive style that should age in the bottle for 3-4 years+. I would suggest people don't serve this too cold and or allow for some breathing.

Serverad från Magnum, oklart med basår och degdatum (inga uppgifter på etiketten på baksidan av flaskan)men av korken att döma så har den legat på flaskan ett tag. This magnum showed especially well in July '17. NV but pure '09 it bursts with energy, zip, minerality and combines elegance with just a hint of richness. Spring Champagne Tasting (Binny's Highland Park, highland park IL): Nose: Right away, the nose screams textbook Blanc de Blancs with green apples, fresh picked lemons, almonds, white fruits, some white florals, and mineral notes. There is very good depth to the nose with an airy quality to the tones.
Taste: Medium bodied with medium/high acidity. The acidity leans much more to the refreshing side rather than being overpowering. The initial attack of green apples, white fruits, almonds, and minerals is quite good, but the mid-palate and finish are lacking somewhat.
Overall: This has everything going for it until the final hurdle. The thinner mid-palate and clipped finish really took away from what would've been a fantastic wine. It's still very good, but it's also priced in the mid-50s where there are a lot of better NV Bubblies.

A domaine with 10 acres of vineyards of which some 6 acres are in Cramant. Its annual production is 30,000 bottles, disgorged à la volée after at least 5 years sur lattes. Very light colour. Energetic, fresh and minerally styled, lovely elegant and ripe fruit, crystalline and pure, hint of nuttiness, a perfectly judged dosage rounds the wine off beautifully.

A: Pale gold, not much in the way of bubbles N: Bread, something like candied orange and JTH gets maraschino cherries as well P: Very playful and light on the tongue. Frothy. Lovely high citrus and acidity. BAGS OF STARFRUIT and PHYSALIS. Firm and lovely. JTH has a lovely wax like almond. Kumquats. C: The flavor profile is sweet orange rind and yet it tastes bone dry. Bottled under lower pressure hence the froth rather than the pinprick bubbles. Still lovely finesse. Finish seems between medium and long. Extraordinary blanc de blancs. The tropicality of the fruit is fascinating. At $61 , i might not get that again. Too much competition. Wish it were $20 less to be sure. I think Spec's Houston is really overcharging for this. I have seen this at much lower price in California.

Rocky stuff out of the gate. Swear you can smell the limestone. I rarely find myself thinking a Champagne is too dry. I can only think of two instances. But this one is right on the line. But the dominating Cramant chalk is impressive. And with some air the fruit emerges. Well balanced. Austere, crisp Chablis with bubbles. For what it's worth, I've since learned that the candy cinnamon bite I loved in the last bottle is an aldehyde and, technically speaking, a flaw. Wish all mistakes were that good.

Light yellow colour with a greenish hue and a still very youthful nose showing lemon citrus, chalkiness and some gunpowder as it opens up.

DG Fall 2018; base 2015
First bottle of this cuvée.

This magnum showed especially well in July '17. NV but pure '09 it bursts with energy, zip, minerality and combines elegance with just a hint of richness. Less evolved than the Cramant '09 but sparkling and in a wonderful place for those who want the purity and freshness tallied with some creamy Cramant development. Great stuff.

Served in reasonably broad flutes this is a bit diffuse and flabby on the palate, lacking the finesse and elegance it can show. A: Pale gold, not much in the way of bubbles
N: Bread, something like candied orange and JTH gets maraschino cherries as well
P: Very playful and light on the tongue.
