CdT Dinner (RCC): Nice clean champagne, served from white wine glasses, allowed for the typical brioche, nuttiness to show through. Clean acidity and brightness balanced out well

Not sure of disgorgement but probably 6-10 years from release I’m assuming, this was golden in the glass exhibiting age in the bottle, bubbles were faint at best and the nose reveals lots of age, baked apple, caramel and honeyed fruit that feels past peak; the palate is not terrible but the wine is flat and lost all vibrancy to it; cooked low and slow for too long and this met its final demise in the bonfire where the smoky steam gave more olfactory interest than anything from the glass.

Light golden color. Apple and citrus nose. Green apple, pear and citrus notes and a yeasty toast undercurrent that is not over the top. Not very complex, but classic Champagne in every way. This one does not make you work through its secrets. It’s just simple enjoyment and celebration.

Pale golden yellow in color with a very fine & constant perlage. Full, forward & attractive nose of ripe fruit aromas of apples & citrus notes of lemons/limes with overtones of floral & yeasty/toasty notes, minerals, stony, chalky & hints of toasted almonds. Light bodied with a good concentration of balanced & smooth textured, ripe fruit flavors of apples & lemons/limes with yeasty/toasty, stony & minerals. Lingering dry finish. Drinks quite well at present & might develop further with another year or two. A somewhat straight-forward style of Champagne.

now been cellared for 4 years since purchase, yeast / brioche on the nose and palate, showing some age, bubbles a bit more restrained, lost some freshness but gained depth of flavour, not particularly complex but nice, eminently drinkable and good QPR

A bottle purchased in the second half of 2021. The extra post-disgorgement ageing has stood it in good stead. The flavours are well developed, but it does not eliminate a clear note of apple skin bitters, especially on the finish.

On the nose almonds, chalk, rainwater and green leaves. On the palate a little almond, meaty, grapefruit, cream, mineral water, salinity. Acidity that is nicely rounded but adds character, this champagne has alot of flavour, nice mousse and fruity but not much apple in there.

Citrus notes, decent acidity and refreshing bubbles. The lemon stays back for a short finish. Simple in structure, and a bit astringent mid palate. Goes down easier if accompanied by some cheese or meat. The lack of complexity and finish makes it not terribly impressive, but it's ok if it's a part of the starting course where it provides sufficient zing but doesn't have to stand out.

Rather cris champagnes, not that buttery. Lots of apple bit of pear and toast. Brioche notes are relatively weak as well as the finish. Still solid entry level champagne

It's been a while since I last tried pommery and I was quite impressed with how much fresher the current generation NV is compared to a few years back. Nice citrus on nose and palate with a minerality which I enjoyed. This is still a very "light" champ though which definitely doesn't give the impression of any huge elegance or luxury.

(Older bottle from the late 1970s) Lovely golden yellow colour with a mature nose showing butterscotch, lemon citrus and red apples and opens up with a lovely creamy note in a delicious way. Butter smoothness on the mature palate showing a pleasant red apples acidity and a refreshing lime zest acidity on the intense and lengthy finish. (Still drinking very well with 40+ years extra cellaring)

From a piccolo bottle. On the nose brioche, some toffee, ripe citrus. Medium bodied, dry and crisp, delivering ripe citrus, brioche and a bit toffee/caramel with good mousse and firm acidity. Excellent champagne.

First time with this wine. Thick mouthfeel. Strong element of white grape (grapiness). Sweet finish My first reaction was to look at the label to see if it wasn’t a brut. It is but it’s odd.
Tasting the next night. Improved from the night before. The grapy exuberance is gone. Tingly acid backbone with a plush mouthfeel. Not a ton of complexity but more enjoyable. Upgrading from 85-89

First sip had a bit of yeast, but this quickly blew off. After that, mostly red & green apple; nice acidity; nice body. Not complex, but very refreshing and tasty.

Nyårsafton hos P+A med F+AK och barn (Södermalm, Stockholm (P+A)): (From the 1970s) Deep golden yellow colour with fine streams and a wonderful mature nose showing butterscotch and roasted coffee notes and a mature palate with a pleasant citrus acidity combined with red apples and a intense lengthy finish.

This was a gift which we opened on NYE as a prelude to a full throttled Napa Cab. This opened up nicely in the bottle to mostly citrus fruit and floral notes. Not much of the brioche reported by other tasters. 88/89

Oddly foamy 1st pour like glass had soap. Persistent nice looking tiny bubbles. Very light color. Smell non ripe fruits. Bitter grapefruit taste in middle of tongue . None ripe Lime citrus taste. Very very dry! It’s very dull and rough to get through my 2nd glass. I almost want to stop drinking it. At $35-40 price range.. I don’t think I’ll be reaching out for it soon. It’s boring

Pretty good easy drinking champagne: it is surprisingly smooth without any harshness in the acidity, but is perhaps also as a result a bit less lively. Kind of a middle of the road crowd pleaser, which is not a bad thing, but we prefer some other champagnes that have a bit more personality. $38.

(Disgorged in the 1970s) Sadly no bubbles left, but still showing freshness with minerals, citrus lime acidity in a mature, but pleasant style. Well integrated dosage as well, so drinking very well despite the bubbles.

A crowd-pleasing Champagne. I'm not sure of the dosage on this, but it seems sweeter than most Champagnes I've had of recent...not particularly my go-to style.
There is nice acidity, green apple, lemon zest, and some hints of grapefruit on the end. It's also slightly syrupy. There is little to no brioche...which is unfortunate. An okay Champagne, but nothing great. 86 points.

A bottle I bought about two years ago. Lemon, grapefruit, Granny Smith apple, biscuit, light brioche, and light smoke, with tart acidity and good length. The mousse is medium fine and a little aggressive. Average complexity. But good freshness. Not the best bottle of Pommery I have had, for sure. The Roederer Colleccion 242 I had the other night was on a completely different level…

Medium gold. Nice balance of citrus, pear and brioche on the nose. Similar profile to the palate, with bubbles on the larger side and a medium finish. Nice and balanced but fairly two-dimensional.

Nice nose with some bread and red apple, the palate is a bit leaner though with some more malic green apple mixed with riper flavours of some lemon sherbet and some bready notes.
The malic acid dominated a bit on opening and I found it a bit lean with also a slightly bitter note, but 2nd and 3rd glasses were notably better.
88pts on opening, 90 an hour later, hopefully not due to my intoxication ;)

Comme toujours, ce champagne brille par son équilibre. Tout est bien proportionné dans ce champagne passe-partout: fruit, intensité mesurée, discrétion de la bulle.
Toujours plaisant.

A surprise; I suggest that this champagne had got some bottle age on the shelves of the wine shop. A very ripe and gentle citrus was the backbone from the start to the finish with a convincing chardonnay style, gentle, refreshing, a vivid acidity, white fruit, very gentle mousse and mildly dry in the balanced finish; as I started, a real surprise for me.

with more cellaring time this is gaining depth and interest, now very good with the potential to get even better, even with NV in this case additional bottle age can produce real improvement, might leave a bit longer (if I can keep my hands off the remaining bottles)

Retail $40. 33% Chardonnay, 33% Pinot Noir, 33% Pinot Meunier. Tasted blind. Wow, this medium-yellow wine has a fairly odd nose: flinty, vegetal, almost some petroleum. NOT what I expect from a wine from Champagne. Although some citrus eventually comes in, but still, odd. The palate is MUCH better (although a fairly low bar, there). In fact, the palate brings the goods—the palate is laden with fruit, depth, verve, but that nose… 90. thedrunkencyclist.com

Upon opening a lot of gas... notes of sweet red apples... First sip is a bit weird like ultra bubby artifically sweet sprite...
With some time bouquet shows also hints of autolytic notes and then switches to gooseberry after a bit more time on the air.
Rather flat body... overall it integrates a bit over time but never shows a lot of texture or depth. Sometimes hints of fish oil appear sometimes some bitterness from low phenolic ripeness.
Overall it was okayish but left strange emotions. Why pay for strange emotions when you can get so many amazing alternatives.

Quite ripe compared to the other Pommery Royal bottles I had so far. Nevertheless, fruity notes with some toast and few nuts; nice!

Odd, possibly even off bottle, but one that after a day of air drank like a Champagne. Initially however, vegetal and cheesy nose, and a palate smoked yellow fruit and cheese. Some fresh acidity, but “broccoli cheese soup” is what I will remember. Drank blind vs. Chandon’s Australian brut, which seemed between them more the Champagne (until, post-reveal, the last glass of the bottle). Not sure when I will try another bottle.

Metallic nose that that has hits of some biscuity depth. Rather sharp and imbalanced on the palette, but with redeeming depth and mousse. An OK Champagne that does enough to define it's status as a "proper" champagne at a very reasonable price rather than a Crément-level fizz. If you can find it, buy the Brut Silver instead.

I had a great time on this fizz. One bottle was great, the next even better, and by 7 bottles later in the company of some like minded groupies we were well on our way to a bubbley night. Didn't leave much of a hangover for the next morning which was fab. Would definitely recommend.

Shared with pat during boca bacchanal weekend. This bottle has etched designation L83504. Special packaging in felt lined box with two flutes. Outer carton indicates packaged 11/2008. This bottle languished in the closet waiting for a special occasion. Finally had to pop and pour due to concerns about longevity. The wine showed slightly golden color but proved to be in good condition. Tight bubbles. Not a lot of yeast. Mostly shows nice expression of the grape. Pretty sturdy for an NV product. Would buy this again although it was not as exciting as the taittinger which was featured at the bacchanal.

This champagne was light yellow-golden in colour, with fine, medium-intense perlage. It offered lemon and citrus notes as well as hints of biscuit, brioche and smoke on the nose. On the palate, the wine showed apple, citrus and chalk, joined by hints of biscuit, brioche and smoke, with medium-plus acidity and average length. The wine started sugary and finished dry and slightly tart. The medium- to light-bodied sparkling wine seemed flabby, did not have much depth and lacked precision. O.K.-ish. Maybe it is me, but I am constantly underwhelmed by the Pommery Brut Royal.

Creamy, tensile, and a hint autolytic, this delivers pure pleasure. Meyer lemon, loquat, and yeasty aromas show a beautiful ripeness while a mineral aspect and a lick of salt add dimension to the palate. There is richness and density of flavor, and an abundant bead and juicy acidity keep this fresh, vinous, and buoyant from start to finish. Absolutely delicious.

Ok, it is Champagne. Intense perlage. Aromas of apples, pastry. Very sweet Brut on the palate. Easy Champ you don't need to bother about. Quality is there, of course, but nothing to admire. VW Jetta. Takes you from A to B.

I haven't had Pommery much until earlier this year when visiting Champagne and had a bottle at a restaurant for lunch. It was delicious both on its own and with fish. I visited the estate and bought a case of NV Brut, this being the second bottle. Very good, fresh, light, classic champagne nose with lots of apple and lemon fruit and some brioche and almond notes. This is drinking very well on its own (aperitif before some sushi). It's a great balance of lightness and citrus elements with some hints of champagne richness to just about give pleasure but without being rich at all. Perfect aperitif champagne. Love it. An hour later with sushi and this is very good. Remains fresh and has an excellent palate cleansing quality.

Pretty basic, far better wines out there for very similar price point. Nose is very light, with general citrus, green fruits and some hint of yeast and pastry. Palate is light, fresh green apple and pear. Bit tart. Not harmonious, autolysis feels like an afterthought and disjointed from the sharp green fruit.

This bottle has some age on it as evinced by the deep gold color and the quickly dissipating mousse. Toasty brioche and dried apples on the nose, echoed on the rich palate. Tiny bubbles enhance the still firm acidity making this an excellent companion to… pork ribs! Happy Champagne Day, all!

Stored for two years @ 55-degrees. This wine had a golden straw color, crystal clear. A light French oak on the nose, fresh wood. Felt crisp in the mouth, slightly creamy. The oak stayed throughout, definitely more so than the Pommery Rose tasted a year ago, but certainly not overwhelming or overpowering. Very well balanced acidity, with hardly a trace of alcohol. Very smooth, easy to drink alone or paired with the rockfish we enjoyed this champagne with.

Typically a blend of Chardonnay (1/3), Pinot Meunier (1/3) and Pinot Noir (1/3), aged for 3 years.
Quite intense lemony yellow color with youthful greenish highlights. Powerful, but also rather pungent and somewhat reductive nose showing quite one-dimensional aromas of acrid smoke and gunpowder along with notes of ripe citrus fruits and some toasty autolysis. The wine feels quite big and full-bodied on the palate with flavors of ripe white fruit, red apples, some lemony citrus fruits and a subtle hint of toasty autolysis. There are no real lows here, but the highs aren't high either. The acidity is high, yet still the dosage shows through a bit. The mousse is lengthy, but it feels quite aggressive with big bubbles lacking finesse. The finish is long but very simple and rather boring with citrus flavors of lemons and grapefruit along with some chalky mineral bitterness.
A reliable but also very predictable, easy and totally foursquare Champagne. Not particularly bad in any way, just very boring - many a normal sparkling wine would perform as good as this one or even better. Definitely a wine hard to get excited over.

From an older bottle. Early 90's perhaps? Deep golden color. Toasty, pleasantly oxidised bouquet of apricots, hazelnuts, yeast, lemons, brioche, and cream. Golden, tawny-hued deep yellow color. Very rich, sweet and unctuous on the palate with aromas of sweet molasses, roasted nuts, Tawny port, some sweet smoke and a hint of syrup sweetbread. The wine is dry, concentrated and ridiculously complex on the palate of intense autolytic notes of toasted bread, roasted baking spices, some chopped nuts, a little bit of brioche and dark-toned hints of mocha and chocolate confectionery. The mouthfeel is pretty oily for a Champagne, the dosage shows through somewhat and the acidity seems rather moderate. The mousse is barely alive, feeling as nothing more than a light tingle on the top of the tongue. The finish is very long, rich and complex with intense flavors of pastries, tawny port, some oxidative Sherry character, a little bit of honey and a hint of roasted nuts.
A very developed and incredibly complex NV Champ. Unlike so many other really old NV Champagnes I've had, this wasn't completely dead and fully oxidized, but still quite alive, although definitely at the end of its road. The wine still retained a little bit of carbonation, which is always a great sign of an alive wine - all the shot old Champagnes have lost their bubble a long time ago - and instead of being just flat and of dull oxidative character, there was still a lot of tertiary fruit left to the wine. A great experience. I just wish there were more of this wine to go around - the bottle was accidentally dropped to the stone floor and this tasting note was written immediately afterwards from what little amount of wine managed to remain in the bottle.

From an old bottle, Black label, likely at least 15-20 yo NV. Not particularly fresh, but pretty decent. Sabered off my front porch at 1 am upon arrival home after birth of granddaughter.

Opened before dinner, then finished later in the night. Aroma is nutty & bread dough, with a hint of green apple. Taste has the bread dough and a decent amount of acidity. Something about this just doesn't make it exciting or stand out

One of half dozen magnums won two+ years ago by daughter over the polo season - well, they have to be drunk sometime! Celebrating son's 25th a good excuse and wine did not disappoint. Full ripe apply fruit with good robust bubbles and crisp balancing acidity. Very enjoyable if somewhat unsophisticated. A crowd pleaser that has held up well while loitering in my cellar.

Jura, Puligny Montrachet and Champagne; 9/8/2013-9/20/2013: Tasted at the winery in Reims. So neutral, pure and indisinctive that it was impossible for us to structure our impressions into the classic flow of scent-entry-midpalate-finish. All we could positively identify was its supermodel thinness, its acidity and something nicely chalky. It was, however a technically flawless tasting sample. One could start to speculate how long this bottle might have been stored after disgorgement (it tasted like about 30 seconds), but in comparison to all but one of the grower Champagnes we tried on this trip it had very little to offer. 84-85P

Champagne BYO including two 1973s (Stockholm): Dark golden colour with amber, some mousse. Nose with cocoa powder, toasted notes, oxidised with sherry, deacying winter apples, some oranges. Palate with oranges, yellow and red apples, good concentration, fruity impression. Quite developed in the nose, while the palate sticks together better, 89 p. More developed in the nose than the 1973 Pommery, although it could be some 20 years younger.
An older bottle with black front label. It has a barcode, so my guess is that it is from the 1990s.

From 75cl. Interesting to taste this on the same evening as the 1999 Cuvée Louise; this came off very well in comparison to the much more expensive single vintage wine. Vinous, more pinot-like and obviously helped out with dosage than its big sister, but none the worse for that. 88P

From 75cl, two identical samples from two different bottles. Appetizing yeasty-vinous scent; nice transition from gentle sweetness on the entry to perky citric acidity on the mid-palate. Short, dilute finish. A very pleasant surprise; just what you want (but alas don't always get) from a Grande Marque NV. 88P

Deep gold. Definitely not a new bottle. Complex nose and flavor profiles match the previous bottle: dried apples, yeasty brioche. Thick white mousse ans fine, lively bubbles that don't quit (so it's not *that* old). A thoroughly satisfying drink, even if this particular bottle is on the way down. A fresh one would be "off da' hook" as they say.

Medium gold with thick white mousse and persistent, fine bubbles. Intense nose of dried apple, yeasty bread, and a bit of mineral. Intense fat palate echoes the nose, exploding in the mouth with an extra bit of ash mid-palate. Finish is long and bready. If this is your style, it's tough to beat this in a NV.

This one I have it from 5-6 years but enjoy it just now. Matured, complex NV with golden yellow color and a lot of yeasts that comes a bit too much for me.Interesting mushrooms nuances can be spotted and a finish that is somehow shorter than expected.

The wine won "The Driest wine of the evening" Award at the tasting. Bone dry acidity, I did my best to pair it with caviar, smoked salmon, baked salmon at no avail, the acidity just pierced through the food like the food wasn't even there. If bone dry Champagnes are your cup of tea- look no further, Pommery Champagne Brut is it!

More evolved than what I am used too with Pommery Brut Royal, as witnessed by the cork. I prefer the younger, fruitier version than the more mature, mushroomy one.

Sehr netter Sonntagnachmittagschampagner.

Golden yellow. Citrusy and appley nose with some rubbery notes, caramel, nuts and slight vegetal odours. Dry, crispy and medium bodied palate with a decent - though perhaps a bit rough - moussé. Salty, yeasty and metallic, not very elegant. Bitter and acidic citrus finish with some oak. Uninspiring, but quaffable.

Disappointing for Champagne with a significant decrease in quality since my last tasting. Light yellow color. Relatively large bubbles. Yeasty nose. Green-apple profile. Short and slightly astringent finish. Very one-dimensional throughout. This seems to be a bubbly doing the bare minimum required to still be a passable Champagne. While acceptable as a drinkable sparkling wine the characteristics and quality are quite insubstantial and hardly worth the its Pommery pedigree. Tons of better Champagnes – even mass-produced Champagnes – available for around this price point.

Fine mouse, golden color suggesting some age, nose of brioche, apricot with mushrooms and other earthy tones. Very dry, focused and earthy. Just the way I like it. I didn't expect a basic champagne from the big house to be this good but madame Pommery proved me wrong.

Clear deep lemon, small bubbles with long duration. Clean aromas of toast, yeasty bread, apricot & citrus fruit and a background of mushroom and honey. Dry, medium body high acidity, ripe citrus, dried apricot, pergamon and a biscuity nutty edge. Very good & interesting. Balanced & expressive.

from a 375 ml golden in coloer, I suspect this is an older release. But this is my first Pommery, so I have no comparison. The palate was round, with stone fruit characteristics. Acidity stood up to the fruit, but just barely. Finish was on the short side. I enjoyed it.

First time having this one and really loved it. It has that precise cispness that has just the slightest hints of sour apple but doesn't hit you with the sour and make you pucker, just that apple crispness without being yeasty. Very nice.

champagne night (binny's highland park): nose: good smokey backdrop filled with apples and citrus tones with a slight hint of baking spices. While not overly complex, its very well put together and has nice depth on the tones
taste: excellent medium feel with roasted nuts, apples, and nice citrus tones. Nice medium acidity that works well with the wine, but doesn't dominate in any way
overall: a quality wine. Won't jump at you, but well put together and solid all around. Good depth on both the palate and nose, this is a good NV to go to when one just needs a solid bubbly for under 35

Pale yellow colour with an atractive consistent small-bubble mousse. Nice fresh nose with hints of nuts and green honey melon. Fresh, attractive and delicate yet rich palate. This is quite old bottle for N.V. ca. 1997, and this bottle has evidently aged, especially on the nose. Plenty of secondary development going on. A good fresh on nose and nutty. Good palate, and very sharp acidity. Bit cramy on he finish. Definitely has liveliness and freshens.

Consistent with my previous note, if anything perhaps a bit better. Medium bodied. Nice bubbles and mousse. Slightly yeasty with citrus fruit and minerals on the palate. Excellent mature character. Great medium-long finish. There’s really not much to fault here – a solid Champagne in all aspects. Not the best of values, but not the worst either.

My one choice descriptive word for this non-vintage Champagne would be maturity. It simply tastes much more developed than its N.V. peers. It has been a couple of years since I last tried N.V. Pommery, but this experience was much better than what I recall. Golden color with plenty of fine bubbles. Light yeast on the nose. Light-to-medium citrus style with a firm mousse and creamy body. Nice medium-length finish. Average QPR. A very good effort!

Half bottle cost $25 (moderate for real champage). The pressure is good but not outstanding (moderate belching!). The flavour is robust, and yet dry at the same time. I like this champagne. The flavour is very assertive and even sharp. But this champage may have been aged too long, as there is a slight tiredness to it, as though it were past its prime. Very good (86.5).

This was auditioned for our "house champagne". Perhaps this was an off bottle (not corked though...) as it tasted like sour apples with a large mousse. We did not find it drinkable and it hit the sink. If I was to rate it it would be in the low 70s. Awful.

Farewell Party and a Lunch to Consume the Leftovers; 10/22/2005-10/23/2005 (Home in Tokyo): Fresh yellow with small mousse. Great persistence on the mousse, as it was still fresh and full 24 hours after opening (after sitting in refrigerator stopped with a regular wine cork). Nose is clean and crisp with apple, a little bit of toast, and a sweet lemon peel element. Palate is dominated by tart apple, more citrus, and some rising dough. Finish comes off a little short and begins to cloy a bit near the bottom of the glass. Finishes fresher (and a little longer) the second day, so I suspect this may need to rest in bottle for a year or two. Relatively simple, but good cocktail party wine at $25. Shows well versus other large houses whose basic Brut NV wines are hard to find here under $40.

A nice mix of fruit and dough, very refreshing. Always pairs well w/ food, but great by itself. Found the mag for $60... 750s of this are from $39 to $45 in Ohio, so I was happy.

Sadly no bubbles left, but still showing freshness with minerals, citrus lime acidity in a mature, but pleasant style.

A surprise; I suggest that this champagne had got some bottle age on the shelves of the wine shop. A very ripe and gentle citrus was the backbone from the start to the finish with a convincing chardonnay style, gentle, refreshing, a vivid acidity, white fruit, very gentle mousse and mildly dry in the balanced finish; as I started, a real surprise for me.

Retail $40. 33% Chardonnay, 33% Pinot Noir, 33% Pinot Meunier.

Bulles assez grossière et peu nombreuse.
Nez timide et effacé, un peu de citrons et de levures.
En bouche, léger et sur les pommes, un peu de poires et de limes, assez acide, suret même.
Le tout termine sur une finale fine et limpide.

An old bottle from the 70's, the label doesn't state anything informative beyond "Pommery Brut".

More evolved than what I am used too with Pommery Brut Royal, as witnessed by the cork. I prefer the younger, fruitier version than the more mature, mushroomy one.
