The 1969 Montrose hails from a vintage which produced some pretty atrocious, heavily chaptalised wines, marked by rot and rain. In the context of what was possible, Montrose clearly did very well, producing an attractive but ephemeral mid-weight which is not as strongly marked by its sugar additions as many of its neighbours.

Bloody , rusty metallic irony red fruits. Spiced wih some dried leaves. Holding on to some fruits but drying out. Incense, dried red fruits. Got better with time

A thoughtful gift from a thoughtful woman. Unlike me , this is a bit old.... but that doesn't mean it's bad. It wasn't complex but the edgy cedar and berry fruit were delicious. With some air the midpallete filled out nicely. The amazing thing about this bottle is that it turned out to be a tasty and complimentary fish wine.

Olde Wine Dinner 1925-1966 (Chez Kailin Cellars): It's getting late and no notes but still a good bottle.

På nesen gir vinen fløtekaramell og støvete kjeller. I munnen mangler det meste unntatt syre. Masse tanniner. 80p.
