Decanted 30min. Tasted at 15min intervals. Glorious! Deep, dark, leather, inky, smooth fully saturated wine. Loved it. We started with the 2005 Rauzan-Gassies followed by C. Palmer paired with prime rib at "The Knick". Such a well balanced, structured yet subtly complex wine. Highly recommend. Drink now, not sure how long this will last. Agree with previous reviews.

Had at Wine Club with turkey. Perfect cork removed with butler’s friend. Deep red colour. Red and black berries, forest floor and cigar box. A lovely delicious wine at its peak. Enjoyed by all. Not sure it will get any better.

Drank at Champetre for my 65th. Decanted an hour or so before dinner, and another 45 mins at the table. Very aromatic nose of berries, leather, earth and pencil shavings. Medium weight, a bit lacking in fruit, mostly tertiary notes presently: leather, baking spice, mushrooms. Enjoyable but I saw few if any of the superlatives noticed by many of the CT reviewers here. Perhaps the bottle was not up to snuff.

We drank this elegant wine with a wonderful meal at Bricks Reno. It opened up nicely after about 1.5 hours. It may not yet be at its peak but was full-bodied, dark berry with leather aftertaste. One of the next wines in my cellar!

Lots of earthy & barnyard notes with spice box black & red fruits medium acidity in a full body with a long finish. A perfect example of an aged Bordeaux. Definitely at peak. Drink up.

1 of 2, excellent cork. Decanted and immediately served. Medium/deep garnet core, narrow pale garnet rim. Nose shows red and black berries, soil, touch of gravelly mineral, violets. Medium bodied, purple/red fruits, florals, elegant and composed with soft tannins, fresh acidity, a good length harmonious finish with a touch of gravelly mineral. Fully mature, should hold for at least another 10 years or so.

Very masculine for a Margaux. Decanted and aerated for 3 hours, then drank over 90 minutes. Ruby red color, some signs of evolution although very dense and brooding. Nose of cigar box, perfumed cassis with lots of leather and black and dark red currants. On the palate very powerful, structured to last another 20 years, very dynamic mid palate, finishes with dark red and black fruits, a touch of pepper with tannins still there but mostly gentle on the long finish. Last bottle and will get more this is lovely now.

Second of two auction bottles with fills into the neck. The cork was very dry and broke into dust. Clearly, something was not right with this bottle. Everyone agreed. There was a little black and red fruit and a little mushroom but not much else. It was drinkable but completely nondescript. 12.5% ABV (good; adequate/**/14/84)

Our last bottle. Lovely bouquet—cassis, cigar box, sufficient fruit, elegant, long finish. Just delightful—not a blockbuster, but really good. Mature to me—minimal tannins. Drink up and enjoy

Perfect expression of Margaux. Stunning floral notes, red fruit, even cherry jolly rancher over time. So, so bright for a 25-year old wine. Chateau Palmer has, at least for me, always seemed to punch above its purported weight. @ Hawksmoor

Wine Workshop: Chateau Palmer (Benoit): Not corked but not entirely ok. The nose didn't smell quite right. Tasting it the wine tastes fine, but if I had to guess it's not exactly right. Had a touch of bitterness I wouldn't expect.

One of two 750s purchased at auction with original-like fills. The cork broke but was only soaked about one-quarter inch. The wine appeared garnet while decanting but showed very dark in the decanter with only a slight garnet edge. It had a very, very mature nose of undergrowth at this stage and wasn’t showing much fruit, which worried me. The initial taste was of indistinct red fruit and heavy undergrowth with a firm line of acid and loads of dusty tannins. Based on other CT tasters’ notes, I decided to decant two hours.
After decanting, this bottle showed itself to be medium bodied and was displaying far less undergrowth and much more perfectly ripe, aging fruits (red and black) on the nose and juicy palate, along with a little toast and tobacco and talcum powder tannins. Exceptionally well balanced with a long finish. 12.5% ABV. (great; distinctly above average; superior/****/17.5/95)
This pours medium ruby in the glass with light bricking at the rim. Very classic and expressive. Quite a classic Margaux in it's early stages of maturity. The nose features lovely margaux florals complemented by classic bordeaux notes. Aromas are of violets, plum, dark cherry, cassis, tobacco, cedar, crushed gravel and celery seed. The palate enters on the lovely lush fruit, fans out with the florals and turns to medium tannin and medium minus acid. The finish balances some green bitterness against the lovely plum and black current fruit, and sweet cedar. Not quite the length of the best vintages of Palmer but still clearly a Bordeaux of pedigree. Still quite structured and youthful at this stage. Very nice and almost 94.

blind I guessed left bank 1996. Classical Bordeaux with still black currant and some secondary and tertiary notes. Good acidity, close to his peak but no hurry. 94

Pristine bottle, cork only soaked at the edge. Blackish crimson color showcasing the wine’s tremendous concentration. Decanted and aerated for 2 hours then drank over 90 minutes alongside a Leoville Lascases 89. Palmer was more powerful, more masculine with a nose of perfumed cassis, earth, leather, tobacco leaf and black pepper. On the palate wonderful power, great acidity and dark red and black fruits, coats the palate at the long finish with tannins almost fully resolved. Delicious wine one of the most exotic ‘95s out there. One bottle left.

Pristine bottle, purchased from a now-defunct Utrecht wine merchant in 2011. A blend of 51% Merlot, 40% Cabernet Sauvignon, and 9% Cabernet Franc. Not decanted, opened two hours in advance. Mature but lively appearance; marvellous nose, classic mature claret, fragrant and immediately open for business, crushed red berries, tobacco, spices, hint of pepper, gravelly warmth; slightly light on the palate, fresh and energetic, mature and flowing, with light but firm tannic grip; finishes with a touch of liquorice, very good resonance and length. Will last, but drinking perfectly now - at least from this bottle. Extra point for the stunning nose.

Still searching for that elusive open bottle like the one I had a few months ago. Still a few years away from its peak. Deep backing ruby color, decanted and aerated for 2 hours then drank over 90 minutes. Very masculine nose of dark and red currants, violets, leather with some hints of petrol. Very packed on the palate, powerful fruit and structure, a very complex 95 with great balance and acidity, finishes long and leathery with tannins present but not obtrusive.

Ordered at Le Hatley Restaurant at Manoir Hovey. Impeccable cork and incredible nose. Decanted for 30 minutes. Dark fruit, cassis, graphite, cedar and the Margaux perfume. Wine was consumed with food and had incredible consistency throughout dinner. Polished tannins, the fruit is well integrated providing an excellent drinking window. Real experience to share a 95 Palmer with friends!

First third of the bottle by coravin, after one week the rest of the bottle. Purple colour. The nose amazing with black berry, violet, black tea, graphite, cedar. Good fruit, may be a little bit to weak compared to the still strong tannins. Very long finish., really great. I would drink it up since the fruit seems to vanish while the tannins stands strongly.

What an excellent bottle. A perfect cork, it was open and developed from the first sip. No decant. A gorgeous nose was followed by tasty notes of red and black fruit, blackberry, violet, earth, truffles and lovely Margaux perfume. Delicious on its own and even better with the 2, herbal slow-roasted, French ducks.
Drink or continue to age.

Although decanted and aerated for more than 2 hours this bottle was much less evolved than the last bottle I had last month. Very dark black and red fruits, masculine and tight, reminiscent of the magnificent but still too young 2005, this bottle was the epitomy of what is meant by bottle variation. It was missing the perfumed cassis and finesse of my last experience. In any case 3 more bottles in my Cellar which I will drink during the course of the next 12 months would be interesting to see. Nonetheless still a complex and top Margaux in my book.

Top class and best bottle so far. Pristine cork fully soaked, decanted for 90 minutes and drank over an hour and a half. Ruby red, no bricking for this 26 year old. Amazing opulence on the nose more akin of a right banks than left, lots of blackberries, lilacs, creamy cassis, candied raspberries, mushrooms and game, and very evolved. Outstanding palate just the perfect balance and acidity, powerful yet charming and feminine, finishes long with bitter chocolate and dark berries with tannins coated by the rich fruit. One of the best I have had.

A Year Later in Vero...; 3/17/2021-3/21/2021 (Vero Beach): Another favorite producer of mine and also a wine that was showing very well if maybe a bit young (compared to the older Bordeauxs served alongside). Darker fruits and a hint of baking spices. Enjoyable.
This is showing terrifically right now. Still hasn't peaked, but it is getting there and is wide open and expressive. The aromatics are fully tertiary with some kind of pitched earth funk that I see a lot of notes below describing as truffly, which doesn't sound quite right to me but I see what they were getting at. Its color is a vibrant young ruby and while the fruit isn't quite so youthful as that (as the aromas suggest) it still has some ripe red berries embedded in all that earthiness. It's fairly elegant in texture right from the first sip but the tannin actually gets grittier and more old-fashioned in its austerity with air, so this has the structure to carry itself for a long while.

Decanted and aerated for an hour and drank over another hour. Blackish ruby red, hardly any bricking at the rim. Nose dominated initially by earth and very masculine dark red and black fruit notes, and cassis along with truffles and violets. Very powerful body but lots of elegance and refinement. Black and perfumed dark red fruits, delicious on the palate. Long finish with hints of violets and bitter chocolate. Quite complex and intriguing. One to keep track of over next 10 years

Thanks Mike for your extreme generosity in bringing this bottle, which we drank alongside a '70 Pichon Baron (Anne's birth year). An interesting contrast to try two aged BDX next to each other, one exactly half the age of the other. 1970 was a "classic" but not extraordinary vintage and 1995 I consider to be the last "modern classic" vintage before the spoof hit the fan. I am a big fan of '95s, which were beautiful upon release but shut down almost immediately to enter a long slumber, which the best of the classified growths are only beginning to emerge from. I don't have much experience with Palmer, but this showed the typical soft cassis-scented elegance I associate with Margaux, but with pleasantly rugged edges. Tannins are silky and barely noticeable, medium-bodied, with a caressing mouthfeel. Suave yet assertive, but seems to be hiding its full potential. This was opened for a "slow-ox" a few hours before we started drinking it, but it needed air and time, and the last glass was the best. Starting to enter its drinking window, but probably best to hold another 5-10 years if you want to see further secondary development.

Great wine. Cool, calm and collected cab, very vertival, manly - aristocratic even. Has both chalkiness and power, we were guessing the structured vintage like 2005 and even 2010 - the unforgiving 1995 vintage is really coming together here. From HSA. #X-pensiveWinos

Served out of Zalto Universal which for me was not the ideal choice and side by side LLC 90 (that out of Zalto Bordeaux) the Palmer got a bit "lost" for me. Shame. A fine wine of course although not a top vintage Palmer. Fine and filigree, some red currant, hint of violet. Felt like it would benefit from more bottle age. I am not a huge fan of 1995 vintage in general (I think it is a decent/good vintage but not spectacular) with few exceptions and this confirmed by view.

Decided to open my only bottle of this tonight, 1995 should be more open than the 1996, we had two months ago, stunning fragrance, velvety dark fruit aromas of brambleberry and cranberry, some graphit or mineralic hints, on the palate that silky luscious body, we were just lucky to open this bottle in its prime, a really pleasant drinking joy, great harmony and precision, lingering finish, my bottle needed no decant, just opened one hour in advance without decanting, a rich mouthful of wine, one of these bottle, you know why you like wine and share your feelings on CT, will keep this condition for the next 5(+) years for sure, ****-*****

Cassis, flowers, violets, wet stones bouquet. Palate of dark fruits, blueberries, violets, terroir, gravel, minerals, pencil shavings. Long, warm finish. The most precise and structured wine for me tonight. Fantastic. Best for me tonight, alongside LLC 1998 and LLC 2006. Open now.

With half an hour of air, the 1995 Palmer is surprisingly accessible today if admittedly not at its peak. But all of the typical Palmer elements are there - cassis, berries, a whisp of violet - but the volume isn't turned up too loud and these characteristics are conveyed within a stern, lean frame. With air, further accents of pencil, herbes de provence, and (atypically) coconut develop. These should improve and I'd be inclined to hold another 5+ years. I shouldn't expect it to develop into a great Palmer, but it is at least a good one.

Chateau Palmer Masterclass (The Wine Emporium, Wine Education Centre): Palmer Masterclass, The Wine Emporium, Brisbane. This wine had a deep crimson colour with minimal lightening and showed a beautiful nose of blackcurrant, blueberry, dark cherry, lavender and earth. The palate is quite intense and tightly wound but unfurls in the mouth to reveal more texture and balance. While this is a more austere Palmer there is plenty of character and flavour to balance the austerity of the year.

Relativt Ungdommelig nese med mørke bær, edelt trevirke, lær, krydder og hint av sigareske. Dyp. Konsentrert og fresh. Denne har mye mer å gå på. Litt uforløst i frukten. Likevel super kvalitet her. Elegant og kraftfull som få matcher Palmer på. Bra bitt og struktur og en meget lang finish hvor tanninene fortsatt kjennes bra. 94-95p

From magnum. Delicious wine, and still young. Precise, focused, deep and rich, good length with smooth tanins. Lacks a tiny bit of profoundness but overall very much enjoyable. I suspect it needs a further aging to reach its peak. To review in 4 to 5 years.

Tasted Blind. I called a Léoville-Poyferré 2006, St-Julien...This wine looks terribly younger than a 1995! Very classic and offering medium intensity on the nose. Tannins are smooth and the overall balance was very good. The only problem, it was tasted side by side with a Lafite-Rotschild 1990:) After some time in the decanter, it looked a bit silly besides the Lafite...hey, but that's unfair.

Here we really get a sense of what Palmer can do given a little bit of time. Very aromatic, very silky tannins, long black fruit, longe finish and also showing some of that old red wine smell. Getting mature but still remarkably fresh. So I am being told. And that is true.

Château Palmer Vertical: Same deal as the '96, little more red and black cherry here, but not as expressive as one might hope for on the nose. Candied cherry continues on the palate, but lacks the Cabernet power and more savoury red cedar and tobacco notes.

Sadly my one bottle of 95 was insipid, even after 4-5 hours and the following morning. I suspect it had been cooked somewhere on its journey from the domaine to my cellar (as I only bought it last year). Such a dissapointment.

This is in a wonderful place right now, displaying a dark yet vibrant nose of crushed black cherry, sweet herbs, cedar, smoke and tobacco. On the palate, I found lifted textures with perfectly resolved tannin, possibly decanted too long as a hint of oxidation creeped in, yet altogether beautiful, as dark fruits and tobacco came together along with inner floral and earth tones. It finished on a note of bitter black fruit and dried flowers.

It has a classic Palmer nose of berries and cigar box and a bit of brett initially, which blew off. On the palate it is a still bit of a bruiser and remains quite stern and tannic but in a chewy, exhilarating kind of way. Gosh this has taken ages to come round, but it is finally entering its drinking window. This is not destined to be a great Palmer, but nevertheless delighted to have some in the old cellar.

Tour des Deux Rives, San Francisco: I liked this wine's immediately expressive bouquet, with a complex mix of red fruit, cigar, oakiness, and a very apparent green streak, which I enjoyed but others found quite off putting. I had this wine on New Years 2014 and I didn't notice the green but the woodsy, oaky, cigar driven bouquet was out of this world. Unfortunately, over the night the wine went into its shell off and on, and so it didn't have the staying power of other wines at the dinner. Still, it was really memorable and a pleasure to drink. I'd drink it sooner rather than later because the fruit, though present, is dominated by the oaky cigar element.

Thoroughly enjoyed this at the Chateau Palmer dinner & tasting at Lamonts Cottesloe.
Dark colour with bricking around the edge, nicely perfumed. Slightly sweet red fruits, with a little brightness that picks the profile up nicely. Tannins are nearly resolved

A great effort from Palmer in a rather difficult year on the west-bank. A high percentage of Merlot, 43 %, are probably the reason in a year difficult for the Cabernet Sauvignon. Subtle and mature, with aromas of plums, leather, farmyard, spices, tobacco and blackcurrant. Medium bodied with soft tannins and nice acidity. Complex on the palate with a quite long aftertaste. Mature but will keep for 10 years.

Significantly better than expected. At Lido, Elbow Beach, Bermuda. Decanted at the table. Fabulous deep colour, but bright not opaque. Fine perfumed nose. Initially moderately tannic, but after an hour everything melded together, producing a well balanced mature wine with persistent length, and without any excessive density. Just the right amount of earth, some minerality, but none of the overweight I often find with Palmer. Very good, and (IMO) atypical both for Palmer, and for 1995. With William Wong and Alex Leung.

94-96: my first Palmer, but the group had forewarned me that Palmer fell into the category of "never had one that was ready." This bottle started to change some minds.
First and foremost, this wine does not drink like Margaux, tasted blind I would have guessed further north on the Left Bank. This wine had a distinctive earthy, graphite nose, a deep earthy core, although the fruit was showing, and a long, mineral and tannin finish. Tannins are still hard, but did open up after time in the glass. This wine might have been the slowest bottle we have ever consumed, as it got better and more interesting the longer it stayed in the glass. Quite good, and I'd say it has a good ten years or more left if cellared properly. Wow!

Good color.Deeper and higher pitched on the nose. Similar aromatic profile to the '02. Not completely expressing itself however. This is fairly full bodied on the palate, with very good concentration on the palate and good class. Medium plus length on the finish with fairly refined tannins.

Best bottle of the three I've had. Decanted and aerated for close to two hours and drank over an hour or two. Excellent nose of cassis, old leather chair, sweet tobacco, subtle earth and a hint of Jasmin and blueberries. Deep crimson color, ever so slight bricking. Delicate entry on the palate, the wine caresses the mid palate with that typical Margaux finesse with dark red fruits and a hint of sweetness blueberry and sweet tobacco dominating. Nice gentle and gratifying finish with tannins resolved, good acidity, complexity on this delightful medium to full bodied wine. Excellent bottle.

Dark ruby color with some bricking. Nose is delicate: oak, forest floor, spice, mushroom. Palate is similar with additional notes of blueberry, tobacco, mild hint of leather. Tannins are almost completely resolved. Mild acidity. Nice medium long finish. Overall, appears to be drinking at its peak. Not too much gas remaining in the tank. Very enjoyable.

Dark ruby-garnet, some signs of age at the rim. Lots of dark fruit on the nose, also mineral (rusty iron), light wood, and a lovely hint of lilacs. Similar palate, dark fruit and a bit of tobacco, and a touch of stemminess that lingers through the long finish. Alcohol in fine balance, medium fine tannins and very ample acidity, which make the structure seem a bit heavy for a wine that is on the light and elegant side. But the structure made for a perfect pairing with grilled steaks, and the stemmy/vegetal notes went well with asparagus with garlic butter. A classic wine that is drinking fine today with food, but should hold and soften for many years. Library release, perfect condition, no change through 8 hours in decanter and glass.

Decanted and let breathe for about two hours, then drank over another. Deep crimson color, black at the core, and no real signs of age. Fragrant nose of cassis, red currants, old leather, some tobacco and subtle earth. A little rough around the edges as the wine hits the palate, but great depth mid palate of dark red fruits, finely balanced, good acidity, and a good finish with granular tannins. Medium to full bodied, next bottle I will aerate for longer and see whether jasmine and flowers typical of Margaux will emerge. Still a very nice wine.

still a bit closed, and probably not fully ready to be drunk. Aromatics are coming out, this wine needs decent decanting. It is still a bit astringent, much more a wine for food in fact. It will do well with steak and even venison. Merlot not fully succesful at this stage i think. a bit of a disappointment, lets see in a few more years....

If you catch this wine at the right time it is just gorgeous. Unfortunately the prime drinking window seems a little short. We enjoyed two bottles and the first which was open for two hours was lovely. By the time we got to the end of bottle one and moved to bottle two, around hour 3.5, this wine was in decline. Maybe a bad second bottle but I think slow-ox is the way to go with these in the future.

Palmer Vertical Tasting (1982 - 2004) (Switzerland): Tasted blind: Herbal notes, hints of malt. It is elegant, has nicely integrated tannins but just lacking the balance and complexity I expect in a wine of that pedigree in a good vintage as 1995. The 1995, like the 2001, is outclassed by the 1999, but it is still an excellent wine, and very open and accessible. Jammy black fruits, prunes, and toast are there in liberal quantities, but this wine doesn't have the inner sweetness or silky texture of the 1999—both traits I associate with great vintages of Palmer. There is still some tannic grip to this wine which I don't think will ever truly dissipate.

Palmer vertical: Thought this was corked at first and discarded it, spilt opinions around the table. Into the bucket. A very experienced taster disagreed and let his glass sit. After 3-4 hours it had become a very deep and rounded wine. Too little to rate, but definitely a good wine.

Tannins have softened nicely though have a good way to go yet. Dark fruit and floral notes dominate the palate, and forest floor qualities add complexity. Long finish.

Classic margaux profile. Inky nose, perfumed, tobacco leaves, lots of sediments and long finish / coarse tannins. Make sure you decant and filter it carefully.

This wine is OKish, but definitely not outstanding, pear and old carpet notes in the nose, opened up after some time but did not fully transform. I guess this is just way too young, give this baby loads of air and don't expect the world, then you will enjoy it!!

Light in color, this wine is already fully mature. Medium to light bodied, with tobacco, cedar wood, cigar box, cassis and forest floor notes, there is a hint of greenness in the soft, red berry finish. Drink up.

Late Feb 2012, Chateau Palmer tasting at the Rheingau Gourmet Festival: bottle opened approx. 3 hours before tasting, bottle to bottle decanted (sommelier information); deep purple red color; black and red berries, especially blackberry, leather, cigar box; medium/full body; round texture; slightly tanninic finish.

Reasonably dense core with very little fade at the rim; very impressive nose, an intoxicating mix of ripe dark cassis, hints of licorice and herbs, some gamey meaty notes; fleshy palate, gorgeous fruit with a superb supporting structure, good acidity and tannins. Young but already delicious. Long, refined finish. Excellent. Opulent.

Ch Palmer @ Medlar (The Medlar, London): Dense, velvety, slightly dusty fruited nose. A sense of plum. Lots on the mid palate but finishes a touch short. also a little loose knit / less ahrmonious. Two wines pushed together at the moment - will it gel? Lacks some persistance on the finish beyond the prominent mid palate. **(*1/2) to **(**) depending.

In the nose, red fruits, earth, incense, truffle and spice. Soft in texture, the wine finishes with a fresh, cassis, kirsch and spice laden perfume. This lighter style of Palmer offers elegance along with charm, but lacks the depth and concentration found in the top vintages of this often stunning Margaux wine. While there is no hurry to drink it, I doubt it will improve.

Very enjoyable, if somewhat outclassed by the Haut-Bailly poured alongside. A little reticent at first, but the aromatics open out with some time in the glass as a lovely perfume of violets, cedar and pencil lead develops around a core of rich dark fruited flavours. The flavours are still quite primary but it's not as tannic as I'd expected considering the vintage, quite polished texturally and lovely to sit down with over a couple of hours.

Adam's Baby Shower (Imperial Treasure Super Peking Duck, Paragon): Very nice. Picked this up as a 1995 Palmer given the slightly unusual pairing between the round, soft feel of the Chateau and the fine-boned toughness of the vintage. What a nose though. Beautiful in every aspect, with loamy earth, tobacco, sweet cassis and blackberries and just a hint of capsicum - lovely. I really like the palate too - classic Bordeaux here after two very good Napa examples. Restrained, classy, yet beautifully delicious, with wonderfully pure cassis and dark cherry notes framed by those very 1995 tannins - firm, but still fine - and seasoned with a lick of tobacco and spice. Already pretty good when tasted on its own, but it became ridiculously good when paired with roasted whole lamb shoulder and mint jelly, with the wine softening ever so gently and opening up into a seductive, delicious, absolutely gorgeous mouthful of succulently dark fruited, tobacco spiced Bordeaux goodness.

Open for 3 hours prior to drinking. Needed to be decanted for longer period of time as it opened up nicely towards the end after being quite tight. Soft texture with rich dark fruit, earth. Longish finish.

Very tight. The temperature is rather cold thus the nose is tight and reserve, but the underlying elegance with floral, black fruits tones are still very much enchanting. Very elegance on the mid palate too, soft, beautiful texture that is rich, and dense but never come across with power and thick. Lots of generous, rich dark fruits, graphite and hint of meatiness all laced over the fine, silky tannin and firm backbone which leads to slight reserve, medium plus finish. Not a WOW wine, but this is very classy and fresh. Buy - No.

Nose - red jammy fruits. Palate - voluptuous; as smooth as cream, the texture of velvet; plush fruit with some chocolate. Tasty and refreshing, though perhaps not as interesting as more recent Palmers.

Drank in '05 horizontial night but defeated by grand puy lacoste. Obviously this wine is sleeping deeply - some nose of black chocolate but no any floral bouquet. Taste very backward. A bit disappointing but solely because open in a wrong time rather than this wine is no good.
1995-1996 Bordeaux evening (At Hugo's): there wasn't any typical qualitative aroma, rather something odd - maybe the wine just didn't open, but even 24 hours later, though it improved a bit - it was well below a descent Palmer; most likely it was partially brett wine.

Palmer Vertical with Thomas Duroux (La Plume, Jefferson Hotel, Washington DC): A spectacular nose of perfumed violets and liqeur, creosote and kirsch. Shocking that it is showing so much on the nose from a very reticent vintage. The palate is fare more strict, with a structure of tannins still prevalent. Nevertheless, it still contains a nice density of berry driven fruit. An excellent wine which should age gracefully for quite some time. Revisit in 2-5 years.

Color: Dark ruby and younger looking than its actual age
Nose: Floral notes accompanied by perfume and a drop of iodine. Fairly closed overall as this wine has not fully blossomed at this stage of life
Palate: Rather closed. Feminine in style. Smooth attack with subtle notes of olives, leather, spice box and lead. Not much wood detected when compared to newer vintages. This wine needs at least 2 - 3 years of further cellaring

Finishing a bottle opened yesterday. Aromas of blackberries, cassis, leather, violets, lavender and tobacco. Terrific balance, with lush dark fruit on the attack, expanding across the midpalate. Flavors of plum, blackberry and tobacco, with a subtle sweet edge to the finish. Picks up black cherry tones on the finish. A perfumed, elegant wine. 93-94 pts.

Going into this I had high hopes for this wine considering the perfect score earned by it's 1st growth neighbor. I was disappointed. It wasn't showing much of anything. It came in between the 98 and the 96 during this tasting. According to the "experts" at the table, this wine is in transition right now. My notes don't indicate it, but I believe the transition comment is a quote from the gentleman from Ch. Palmer.

Opened and drunk over 2 hours with other wines at dinner. Tight, with reserved fruit at first, this really opened up over the 2 hours, and was markedly better during the 2nd half of dinner. A nice drink, but as a fan of Palmer, I was surprised it didn't show better, maybe 89/90. More time maybe? Definitely decant for at least an hour next time!

Toronto Offline at Reds with Ian Darshan Cauble: Now this was the elegant lacy lady of the evening. Started to get lost with all of the glassware in front of me, this wine stood out as my type of bordeaux. It had very nice black fruit, lots charred wood notes. A concentrated consistent balanced palett with silky tannis, it was different again. I admired the elegance of the wine, and can only imagine where it will go. Yum!

Litt uforløst i frukten.
Likevel super kvalitet her.

Wow!

Definitely a nose wine. Cedar, violets, cigar box, blackcurrant. Really classic nose. On the palate some elderberry, pine and black fruit. Very good, nicely balanced. Great now.

Buy - No.

This wine needs at least 2 - 3 years of further cellaring

decanted.. nose opened up after approx 1-2 hrs.. slightly reticent when uncorked.. but gathered more weight over a few hrs.. ripe fruits, wood, prune & spice... very enjoyable nose at that stage.. sometimes wavering..but the nose is good enough to make me smile..
on palate when first uncorked, tannins quite obvious..very dry.. consistent on entry-mid-end with no let-up.. thinner initially, but gained weight over time..nice! the initial slightly bitter tannins gave way to a drink of sweet fine texture too.. which made it a very enjoyable drink... quite elegant and enjoyable.. very good length..

Medium-bodied on the palate, with a slightly angular/austere character. The structure was very apparent, and took center stage on this night.

Palmer.
