Bordeaux 2004 20 years on Part 1 (Blacklock City): This came across as very very claret, with all of the cedar, pencil lead, old school desk nature of Bordeaux. It’s got a good amount of funk as well, some proper barnyard in the mix. I found it a little lacking in the fruit department, perhaps a bit thin (though delicate might be a nicer way of phrasing it) and perhaps more in-line with my understanding of the vintage, but overall this is a nicely poised bottle that delivers just what you want from Bordeaux. I gave this my third spot, I really enjoyed its traditional appeal.

Jonathan's 2004 horizontal (Blacklock City): A nice contrast to the Leovilles and its flight-mates, being light on its feet and rather delicate in character. Clean, leafy and drinkable, with a menthol note on the nose, and (based on my prejudice, if not tonight's evidence) more of a typical 2004. Just what was needed with the steak course. My #3 tonight.

Tasting properly mature. An old school claret. Quite fine, even thin, blackcurrant fruit, much more in the way of dead leaves, fireplace. Well proportioned, classical, very enjoyable but for me I think it will become increasingly frail and it is now time to start drinking up unless you like very very old claret. But I increasingly think people fetishise age in old wines, they're not at their best just because they're old, and I think this is now headed into that territory. At time of writing only 39% of those bottles held in community cellars has been drunk, frankly I think that's ridiculous, how long are people going to wait?

In the realm of fine wines, where artistic mastery meets the divine flavors of the earth, one name stands tall, reminiscent of legendary tales and the quest for perfection: Château Grand-Puy-Lacoste.
Picture this: amidst the rolling hills of Bordeaux, a bottle of their renowned 2004 vintage awaits its moment of revelation. As I, the incomparable Ernest Hemingway, renowned wordsmith and connoisseur of the finest things in life, embark on this poetic journey of the senses, let me intertwine it with the enchanting presence of an equally celebrated character—a well-known grunge musician who seeks solace in the depths of sound and flavor.
As the crimson nectar cascades into the glass, I took a moment to appreciate the hue—a rich garnet that mirrors the passion and intensity of their performances. Swirling the wine in the glass, the fragrances evolve, awakening memories of both love and longing, much like the depths of their lyrics that resonate with countless souls. The first sip, taken with reverence, unfolds on the palate, revealing a tale of complexity and grace.
The musician's lips meet the glass, and as the liquid graces my tongue, the symphony begins.
This was a great wine, but needed to wait....maybe 2035, but what the hell right?

Bright medium garnet color. Lingonberries, raspberries, and blueberries on the nose with a hint of tobacco. Texture is a little watery. Notes of milk chocolate covered blueberries with some red berries.

Such a comfortable Bordeaux (does that even make sense?). Creeping into its secondary phase where there is still lovely, restrained fruit married to some leather and graphite. Such a good buy back in the day...

Dark red and brownish rim. Crumbled cork. Faint dark berries. Smooth tannins. Integrated acidity. Lacking life and legth. Good but can’t keep up with Kollwentz point 2008.

2/12, excellent cork. Decanted 1/2 hour. Deep garnet core, narrow pale garnet rim. Nose shows red and black berry fruit, cedar, touch of gravelly mineral. Medium bodied, mainly red fuited on the palate, cedary with attractive gravelly, mineral under-tow, soft tannins, has opened out nicely, fresh acidity carries good length, harmonious finish with a touch of spice and sacvour. Excellent, singing tonight though no need to hurry here either.

Dark ruby colour. Good red and dark fruit, dark cherry, leafy black currant, plum, violets, light bell pepper, dark chocolate, tobacco, some cedar, graphite, gingerbread, and spices, with good acidity, firm tannin, and great persistence. Good concentration and complexity, and a smooth texture. Well structured. Even more striking on day two. A textbook Pauillac! Drink now and over the next 15 to 20 years.

A very impressive claret. I find that when I read tasing notes of classed growth claret people are always fixated on some flaw they can find; trying not to do that, this is great. Mature red, not fading. Immediately upon opening, it has ripe cassis fruit, plum, chocolate, mint, and energetic acidity. It opens up with spice and a certain creaminess, mature tertiary character of wet leaves and coal are present but in a supporting role; there is something of a diminuendo over the palate, which I put down to the vintage, but gosh, anyone drinking this should be grateful they have the chance to do so. Delicious claret.
Intense nose of dark fruit, marzipan, leather and spice, bitter to taste but still very enjoyable.. This bottle was better than the one I tasted a few years back. The wine really opened up throughout the evening and the bitterness subsided and the nose became more intense as the night went on. Very good

10th bottle from a case bought en primeur. Complex nose of coffee, chocolate, oak and blackcurrant. Medium to light weight soft fruit is dominated by tannins. Good length but some astringency on the finish. Not as charming as earlier bottles. This wine was at it's best 2017 to 2019. Drink up.

Super green on the nose, perhaps this was a slightly under ripe vintage? I don't recall there being a large amount of cab franc in this wine. Totally unmanipulated and giving what the vintage offers, the palate follows through with predominately earthy flavors. Open and ready to drink now.

A very classic claret. Not overpowered. A wine which is not trying to impress you at all costs. I even had a feeling that it was emanating the peace. The peace we all have less and less in our daily routine. Wine was absolutely ready to drink and I cannot see any reason to keep it longer.

Quite fragrant on opening, cassis, raspbery. First glass seemed a little disjointed. After an hour it has settled. Black fruits then woody, quite dry with a good line of acid. Ok but I was hoping for more.

An excellent wine, showing that GPL is an underrated player. Even in this modest vintage, the wine has decent mid mouth presence. Typical aromatics of Pauillac with forest floor and dark berries. Gerat QPR 93+

Interested by the spread of comments on this wine. This was rather restrained and underpowered (I note the comments about greenness). I am thinking it might just be a phase, but it could be that I have missed the boat. I hope not because I am quite a fan of the elegance of 2004s generally, as well as liking GPL in the main.

Dark, though predictably not especially bright. An attractive mintiness on the nose and some quite dark fruit, but a bit diffuse. The palate actually rather better--powerful but balanced by some sweetness. Still a small upside here perhaps?

A better bouquet than the B-C, classic Pauillac, with dark berries, cigar box and cassis, along with some vanilla and violet. The attack is very soft and plump again, but there is more in the way of fruit, the spikes of cassis and blackberry much more prominent. The middle section however never really takes off - so slightly frustrating, but the bigger problem is the finish, which is dominated by a green, unripe sense of bitterness. Again, perfectly drinkable, a decent traditional-style claret, but lacking in oomph. Compared to other vintages, the 01, 02 and 07, which I have tried over the last few years, have all been better.

I opened this out of concern from other tasting notes that this might be fading. Not at all. Presents as as an excellent classic claret, showing plenty of tertiary character but still some fruit. Depends how you like your claret I suppose but for those who enjoy that wet leaf, pen ink character this will go on for quite some time. Colour is still a dense red, no browning, no hurry to drink.

An easy afternoon with close friends; Pomerol, Pauillac and Pessac. (@ PdV): Dark berries, graphite, tobacco, vanilla and licorice in the complex bouquet. On the palate dark berries, leather, tobacco, beautiful acidity, a touch of pleasant bitterness and a good length. The tannin still has a pleasant bite, but it is ok that this is my last bottle. Beautiful, mature and elegant wine. 91

Utterly classic and surprisingly youthful. Balanced blackcurrant fruit with great purity with just enough tobacco and leather coming in with a touch mint. Mid weight, the structure really flatters this wine. Lovely.

Very impressed by this. Seems much younger than its 14 years and I'd have guessed a more hyped vintage. More black fruit than anything else, this has fabulous balance, very good concentration and a long finish. A bargain at the 30 pounds I paid. Drink or hold though I think this could certainly develop further. 92+

This wine, although perfectly enjoyable, continues to underwhelm and must be a feature of the vintage with some drying of the fruit and without the usual complexity associated with GPL. To my mind Lynch Bages is better this year.

Très beau Bordeaux. Nez expressif, avec beaucoup de finesse, délicatesse et en constante évolution. En bouche, tout est en rondeur, bien fondu. Les tanins sont soyeux. Belle longueur.

30 minutes open in the bottle, but could use more. Amazing nose filled with dirt, tar, and dark cherry. High quality wine composed of smoke and an abundance of fruit, although a little tartness earlier on. Finish is on the shorter side. I am absolutely in love with these ‘04 and ‘05 Bordeaux’s in the £50 to £70 range!!

Prior bottle was almost exactly two years ago and the wine continues to show well. The mixture of vanilla and blackfruit notes, coupled with the cigarbox qualities make for a very pretty nose. Medium bodied (13% ABV) with soft, open and rounded black cherry upfront, mixing with some blackberry notes through the middle and adding chocolate, tobacco and integrated spices behind. Retains that graphite quality on the finish which adds some length. There's enough tannin here to provide solid structure, just a touch a brightness and the longer the wine is open, the more defined the various fruit notes become and the more the wine overall shows a better sense of balance. It didn't need the additional time to "open up", but it did need it for all the elements to come into proper balance. Upon opening, this wine can fool you into thinking its ready as the fruit is so accessible and rounded, tannins nicely integrated. But give this wine a few hours open it gains noticeably more depth and expression. This was my final bottle, but it may be worth trying to get some more.

Not very expressive on the nose right now but with effort, tobacco, cherries, Asian herbs and floral notes could be detected. Palate was also a little disjointed right now. There were times that I could taste the lovely blueberries, dark cherries and black currents flavours and there were times that I could not. I think this has got potential but this is just not a good time to open a bottle right now.

UK Wine Forum 2004 Bordeaux (Piccolino, Exchange Square, London): Attractive, composed, fragrant red fruit on the nose, touch of cedar and spice but still quite youthful. Medium bodied on the palate with lightly savoury red fruit, cedar, touch of mineral and a nice long, savoury finish. Lovely ****

Very good. Classic Bordeaux for a while but then after 4 hours and with roast lamb it became almost Burgundy like. Lovely cherry nose, fruit and a little cocooned on the place, very nice oak. Nice, oaky finish. Interesting how the cassis changed to cherry with air. Complex, classic Bordeaux.

Impromptu drink at Asparagus' new lair. Appearance is clear, deep intensity, ruby colour. Legs. Nose is clean, medium intensity, with aromas of blackberry, black cherry, deep purple flowers, red bell pepper, sweet ash earth, slight vanilla cream. Developed. On the palate, dry, high acidity, medium alcohol (13%), fine polished grippy high tannins, full body but overall still conveys the sense of leanness. Medium+ flavour intensity, with flavours of tobacco, graphite, blackberries, black cherries, redcurrant, red bell peppers, light cassis. Long finish. Very good quality. Classical old school. Not a powerful Bordeaux that impresses, rather - one meant for quiet appreciation. At a very good stage of development. I would say drink it now and over the next 2-3 years. 72% Cabernet Sauvignon, 26% Merlot, 2% Cabernet Franc.

My fourth vintage of this wine; 1997, 2004, 2005 and 2012. I did not expect much, but this turned out to be a very good wine. Very elegant and polished, quite cool, and with a core of very dark, oldschool, fruit. Decant 2-3 hours.

Dark, vibrant ruby with slight fading at the rim. Lovely bouquet of weedy black currants, cedar, with hints of graphite, Asian spices, green bell pepper, and spearmint. The aromas give way to a medium body palate that is dominated by red fruit, moderate glycerin, and slightly brittle tannins. The finish is about 25 seconds, but the midpalate is missing some oomph and telling of the vintage in my experience. This is definitely at its plateau where I would expect it to remain for at least 5 years and possibly a good deal more.

Opened the second bottle of the case, popped and poured. Purple core tending to dark garnet with only a very little fading at the rim. Tannins are still present, the fruit is still present but now seems darker fruited, overall it is well balanced. This should have been decanted for an hour or two and I expect there is lots of life yet for any remaining bottles. It did throw a good amount of sediment in the last half glass.

1/12. Decanted 1 hour. Medium/deep ruby core, pale ruby rim. Nose remains youthful with cedary, lightly creamy red fruit. Medium bodied, fine, even soft tannins, creamy red fruit, cedar, touch of spice, nice volume/weight on the mid-palate without being at all "big", attractive fresh acidity, good length harmonious finish. Certainly approachable structurally if still with a youthful flavour profile, this is an attractive mid-weight, fragrant, classic claret drinking now (and for quite a few years yet).

Still vigorous. Still youthful. Smooth and ready to drink with an hour bottle decant. Classic Pauillac - top to bottom - color, nose, flavor profile. The tannins have not fully resolved, but definitely enough. The acidity is a little youthful still and not entirely nutural on the palate, but it might get there in a few years.

My first bottle in two and a half years (prior was Dec 2013) and this wine has evolved quite positively. Berries and vanilla and the nose and still benefited from begin open two hours ahead. Flavor profile was quite similar to my prior bottle notes with bright cherry upfront and blackfruit, chocolate and tobacco on the backside. Finishes with that graphite note (as others noted) that screams Pauillac. The biggest difference to be was on the integration side where the tannins have started to resolve and the fruit has begun to round. With the fruit remaining as bright as it is, this wine still feels like one on the upswing. No need to wait as it's drinking quite well now, but no need to rush either as it should get slightly better over the next few years and have several more beyond that.

Color was crimson in bowl starting to go amber on the rim. Nose is usual GPL fruits, with cedar and herbs. A little one dimensional and not sure it is going to get much better. Good mouth feel, not overpowering but well-balanced, not too deep, and the acid in the finish makes this a crowd pleaser, even if it will not likely win a lot of accolades. Great "beginner" wine for new Bordeaux drinkers and those old hands who might just want to enjoy the meal without overanalyzing the wine.

An easy afternoon with close friends. 2016-01: Pomerol and St Julien. (@ My place): Beautiful bouquet with creamy cassis, cedar and beautiful oak. On the palate creamy dark berries, graphite, refined and a beautiful balance between acidity and sweetness. The tannin is beautiful and round, but also still powerful. With more air time the acidity and tannin became a little more prominent and also some tobacco appeared. Overall a beautiful wine still in its early maturity stage, but already a pleasure. Probably waiting until 2018 - 2020 will be rewarding. 91+

6th bottle from the case. I'm giving this wine the benefit of the doubt because of the lovely nose and flavours. On the minus side it is out of balance with excess acidity and light body. On the plus side it has great GPL typicity, complexity, decent length and soft fruit. Blackcurrant, sea breeze, iron, liquorice, oyster, finishing with coffee. Mmm ... my golf may suffer in the morning. Drink up.

It's lost it's puppy-fat fruitiness but hasn't yet developed the cigar-box complexity of age. Better to let it mellow and become a little more frail and considerably more complex. Otherwise, today, it's a strong flavoured, savoury wine, slightly on the hard greenish side.
Best left for 2-5 years or more.

Medium bodied, finesse styled Pauillac with slightly dusty tannins, cassis, blackberry, tobacco and forest floor notes that is definitely ready to drink. Tasted from a magnum, as there are no more bottles of 2004 Grand Puy Lacoste remaining at the chateau, this comes with a fun story. Remind me to tell you about it, the next time we meet.
Monthly Tasting Group LTB 2014-10; Bordeaux 2004 left bank from magnum. (By VD): Beautiful and still a bit locked bouquet which shows dark berry fruits. On the palate the wine presents itself better with good cassis and other dark forest fruits, cedar, beautiful smoky oak, chocolate, good acidity and mild tannin. A refined and complex wine, probably on the brink of showing what it has in store. Probably wise to wait until 2016, but with enough airtime the wine will very likely deliver. No problem cellaring this until 2020+. 91-92 for tonight, but when the wine opens up a 93 score is not unlikely.

A revisit to the 04 GPL. Unfortunately didn't get time to decant this time and the enjoyment is slightly lower than the previous time. But this wine is well make and value for money in today's market place. Dark profile, with traditional Paulliac nose of cassis, cedar, cigar and currants. Medium bodied palate, has gotten rounder, nicely balanced red fruits and tobacco in the mixture. Tannins are approachable and getting soft. Unlikely to make old bones, but will be in nice drinking window for the next decade.

PnP first impression, almost the exact opposite of my impression from last bottle when the wine had aerated for a long time. Nice Bordeaux nose, but thin and acidic. Put cork back in and waited to next evening. What a difference that made! No longer thin, but balanced, well integrated and delicious with a long lovely finish. The tannins are fresh and the wine will probably have a pretty long future still from here. Very good not-so-exciting vintage, great QPR. Score 88 on PnP, 93 now.

Opened and let slow-ox for 20h. Cedar wood and graphite on the nose with cassis in the background. Tannins providing plenty of grip but the fruit provides a decent counter-weight. Mid-palate not too thin, in fact it has a pretty solid moth-fill although not exactly sophisticated nor very smooth. I like it! An old-style Bordeaux, great with steak!

Perfect storage and Quite muted on opening. Some slight secondary notes and a faint hint of balsamic, noticeable oak on the finish. This probably needs a good hour decant and food... Good with fillet steak but it seemed a bit unbalances - lots of alcohol. Then afterwards, with 2 hours in the decanter, and it really opened up, lovely secondary notes of oak, coconut, coffee. Wonderful. This needs quite a bit of air to wake up.

Berries and vanilla on the nose. Needs about two hours open to really show. Deep and expressive with bright cherry fruit leading the way, supported by blackfruit with hints of chocolate and cigarbox in the background, while adding in currant and vanilla on the finish. Has excellent structure overall and very good length on the finish. Quite drinkable now, but with the tannic structure and the brightness of the fruit, this will probably get better over the next three years. Between the fruit and the structure, this was a positive surprise; this wine has plenty of upside left and will easily last another seven or eight years.

Now beginning to be enjoyable. Decanted for 2 hours and there was good balance, flavour and integration of tannins. Although there is still a bit to go here, it is much improved on a year ago when I found the wine almost undrinkable. It should continue to improve for the next few years.

Great purple look in color. Classic Paulliac nose with cassis, cedar, cigar, currants, with a hint of mint and mushroom in the bouquet. Palate has a medium bodied mouth feel, balanced, with tasty red fruits, spice, cigar smoke. The plush mouth feel is welcoming, tannins are still present, but no hard edges at all, dry but fine. Perhaps the 2004 is lacking the power in better vintages, yet the smoothness in the 2004 is really quite nice, also good value at $50. Enjoy

Appearance: Bright and clear, this wine is of deep ruby color, with legs. Nose: Clean, the nose shows medium intensity aromas of black fruit such as blackcurrant and blackberry, animal notes of farmyard, pungent spice of liquorice, oak notes of cedar, maturity notes of tobacco. The wine is developing. Palate: Dry, it has medium (+) acidity and medium (+) tannin of ripe and rounded texture. The alcohol level is medium, with a medium (+) body, showing medium intensity flavors of black fruit such as blackberry and dark cherries, oak notes of cedar, MLF notes of cream, herbal notes of black tea. The wine has medium finish. Conclusion: Good quality Pauillac though not particularly impressive, the wine shows reasonable concentration and complexity on the nose, and the tannin and acidity all providing a nice structure for the wine. The palate is having fair concentration and complexity, with some herbal notes, which shows it is coming from a vintage with some ripeness issues. The finish is reasonable, and it is ready to drink now but can benefit from further ageing of another 3-5 years.

Barnyard and minerals on nose. Nicely integrated, mostly cherry , on palate. Decent, not lengthy finish. It only lacks complexity. Drinks quite pleasurably now, and worth the 49 I paid at Total. This was perfect with a slab of pork pate from the grocery store.

Deep red, some signs of evolution on the color. Moderately expressive on the nose, with red fruits, cedar and spices. Sappy and nice fruit, well rounded and fine, with a persistent finish. Approachable now, but will probably improve over the next few years. Even better day 2, showing more complexity on the nose and palate, with aromas of earth, berries and cedar wood. Harmonious wine. Promising.

First bottle from case. GPL is one of my longstanding favourite clarets and I had tasted this wine a couple of years ago at Tanners with M Borie, when it was lovely. I was a tad disappointed with this bottle. Solid good northern Medoc, but cru Bourgeois stuff. I vacuvined it and it showed better the next day, so I may need to give it more air. Good deep colour and attractive blackcurrant spice nose. Solid even rich Pauillac taste, soft tannins but a bit short and two dimensional. 14.5/20 WoFW but perhaps I'm being a bit harsh. Looking forward to the next bottle.

Vertical tasting of GPL, '00 through '05. Poured two hours before tasting. '01 was my favorite, followed by '05 (which may still improve with age), then '00, '03, '04, and '02. All were medium bodied. Tannins were soft. '02 had green flavors.

Disjointed and not showing well at all. Structure there but this was all over the place. Too young or a bad bottle. Hard to judge but I would give this time looking at other notes on this wine.

Grand-Puy-Lacoste Vertical (Home): Drank as part of a Grand-Puy-Lacoste vertical that included the 1996, 2000, 2004, and 2005. Least interesting nose of the bunch--sort of monotone. Although drinking fairly well now. More new world in style, with fruit up front and less acidity. Someone in the group described it as being more of a Napa cab rather than having the Pauillac typicity. Thinnest concentration of the group. Could stand a little more time in the cellar.

Monthly Tasting Group HWS #064; Bordeaux; Pauillac (By RvD): This was probably a faulty bottle, so in the end I will not score it, but I will write down my notes of the evening: In the bouquet special, some eucalyptus? Or is it the oak? Some metal impressions as well. On the palate also special and hard to describe. It is full bodied and there are some rose hips and sweetness. This is where my formal notes end. After seeing which wine it was we decided that this must be a faulty bottle, because this is definitely not how a GPL usually tastes like. I added to my notes that after some more air the wine seemed to recover a bit. Nevertheless a pity.

Smoky and fruity body with hints of chocolate and cherries with a teasing spice leading to a slightly sharp finish. Not as silky as the 2001 Paulliac I drank in London, but certainly not a bad wine at all to my unlearned palate.

Earthy nutmeg and light clove with blackberry core and a little cigar box showed nicely on opening; rich black licorice mouth, ample tannins, a bit richer than the Smith-Haut 2000, meaning maybe heavier, coarser tannins; pure Pauillac, and could stand a couple more years to soften up, but no slouch right now. 91-92

Decanted for 1hr. Very strong tobacco note along with pencil leads aromas that given away its identity, is a Pauillac, I guessed. This somehow lack of fruits on the nose which mark a notch down of the attractiveness. I'm pretty sure this bottle is not a perfect bottle, very rich on the palate but also very salty with relatively short finish, tannin is almost disappear. 82?

GPL vertical with '96 Pauillacs (Scenic Loop Cafe, San Antonio, TX)): Splash decanted and poured back into open bottle 12hrs prior to consuming. Classic Pauillac nose with cigar box, flint, touch of cassis. Palate with plenty of acidity and fine tannic structure, with some black currant and cherry. Medium finish, showing lots of oak influence and turning slightly bitter. Slightly disjointed, with the mid palate being hollow. Good bdx that should come together, but not a great year for GPL.

Took about 4 hours in the decanter to really come around. Beautiful perfume thats unmistakably pauillac. Wonderful fruit and balance. This could use a couple of years, but really came together tonight. Impressive, especially considering i purchased for $40. Let it breathe, or let it rest. Lovely and balanced wine. Black fruit, coffee, earth, nice finish. A bit hollow on the midpalate, hurting this wine a couple points. Classic Bordeaux from an overlooked vintage.

Weekend Wine with Summer; 9/9/2010-9/12/2010 (Las Vegas, NV): Decanted for 2 hours before first tasting. Very closed nose with hints of alcohol, dried roses, charcoal, and sour cherry peeking through. Disappointing nose at first.Developed a bit over the 4 hours it was drank to exhibit slight pencil shavings, light cranberry, and a hint of truffles. Overall, I'm disappointed. Had hoped it would show better tonight, but I suppose judging GPL at such a young age can be tough.

Popped and poured. Medium-plus garnet. Alluring nose initially redolent of earth, black olive, and a hint of funk opens after 30-45 minutes to reveal aromas of spicy cherry, earthy currant, tobacco, and hints of cedar. Medium body. A nice core of black cherry, plummy fruit, earth, and very appealing tinges of fresh cedar shavings, fresh herbs, and even a hint of floral incense (which grew more profound as the wine opened). Really, what make this wine though is the overall structure, balance and a factor that can be described as "sumptuous," or "satisfying." Tannins are surprisingly smooth. Should be drinking beautifully in 2-3 years, an excellent wine overall.

Good color, dark but not black. Faint cedar nose with a touch of blackberry. Tannins are slightly aggressive, but good underlying fruit amd brisk acidity. Eric Asimov says: flavors of berries, fresh herbs and minerals. I agree.

Anita: OK, another infanticide. Nice dark purple color, tons of structure and class, but still a bit closed, terse t’s, lotso fo nice earth tones, forest floor, leather, cassis core, tobacco; classic, but not as easy to drink as the Lorinon. Good w/steak. Needed 4-5 more years. WA was probably right on w/89.

Nose of cedar with a bit of barnyard and not much else. Tastes of red fruit and spices with a little herb-like vegetal element. Complex but did not really find a tremendous depth of fruit. When compared against a 2006 Cabernet Betz Père de Famille, the Betz had a much greater depth of fruit. After a while, the Lacoste opened up and gave up a bit more fruit. I preferred the Betz overall and it would make a great "steak" wine but the GPL was more intellectual and would be a better wine to sit and reflect.

Fairly light in color Nose was not giving away a whole lot...some cherries and maybe a little greenage One the palate it was very tight with dark flavors, present tannins, tobacco, and a nice dose of acid Overall this wine is young but deep and I think it has potential to emerge in a few years. I also got a hint of citrus, almost like a new south american cab. It reminded me of the 04 haut bages liberal, but with more depth and more intensity 50+3+5+16+12=86 (for now)

Full, deep, rich, oppulent. Toasted oak, tangy fruit with a hint of sweetness coming through. Robust and firm tannins - this is way too young to be drinking right now. This could be confused with a 2005 such is the depth of the fruit. Given 10 years plus this will unwind into an absolute belter of a wine where it will be softer, sweeter and extremely good. Leave this in the cellar for at least 5 years. Very good but will be excellent.

Drank over a ribeye steak at Morton's. Not particularly thrilled by this one, although part of it may be the fault of a slighly blocked nose. Very Paulliac, dark inky colour, big cassis nose, a little tobacco leaf with time in the glass. On the palate, more cassis, some dry earth and a hint of green at the edges. Grainy tannins. It went very well with the beef, but that was still not quite enough to justify the wine's price point.

Very young as expected. Opened to evaluate the potential and to decide if I want more. Typical Pauillac flavors and nose. Tannic, will drink the rest tomorrow. (2nd Day) Even better than the day before. Opened up with raspberries, pencil lead, tobacco, and dirt. This one did it for me. This is a reorder.

Deep garnet core, narrow pale garnet rim. Nose shows red and black berry fruit, cedar, touch of gravelly mineral. Medium bodied, mainly red fuited on the palate, cedary with attractive gravelly, mineral under-tow, soft tannins, has opened out nicely, fresh acidity carries good length, harmonious finish with a touch of spice and sacvour. Excellent, singing tonight though no need to hurry here either.

We pulled the cork about 5 hours before we tackled this magnum.
I was very pleasantly surprised how well it has held up and how balanced and charming it was. The wine improved throughout the evening, so plenty of life ahead but possibly at its best now.

Drink up.

Don't drink now.

Mid-palate not too thin, in fact it has a pretty solid moth-fill although not exactly sophisticated nor very smooth. I like it! An old-style Bordeaux, great with steak!

Ruby red. Attractive, bright nose; sweeter than the 07 tasted alongside it. Pretty and clean but maybe a touch restrained with fresh blackcurrant, cherry and fine toasty tannins.

Pretty much an identical experience and review as Tooch's on 9/11/2010.
Did work very nicely with the rack of lamb as expected.

Cedar nose, good colour, tasted like the tannins had blended in nicely and the wine was soft, less angular then when last tasted.

Should be drinking beautifully in 2-3 years, an excellent wine overall.

nice expression of pauillac - cedar, mint, cherries, cassis, lots of tannins, full bodied but not dense - maybe it was just the vintage but this has a pleasing traditional feel to it

Would purchase again, seemed like a classic Pauillac built for the long haul. Slightly tannic.

Fairly light in color
Nose was not giving away a whole lot...some cherries and maybe a little greenage
One the palate it was very tight with dark flavors, present tannins, tobacco, and a nice dose of acid
Overall this wine is young but deep and I think it has potential to emerge in a few years. I also got a hint of citrus, almost like a new south american cab.
It reminded me of the 04 haut bages liberal, but with more depth and more intensity
50+3+5+16+12=86 (for now)

Full, deep, rich, oppulent. Toasted oak, tangy fruit with a hint of sweetness coming through. Robust and firm tannins - this is way too young to be drinking right now. This could be confused with a 2005 such is the depth of the fruit. Given 10 years plus this will unwind into an absolute belter of a wine where it will be softer, sweeter and extremely good. Leave this in the cellar for at least 5 years. Very good but will be excellent.

Dominated in the nose with black fruit and oak. Lighter and easier to approach than their 05, the wine will show well young.

A modest "useful" bordeaux, already fine to drink and unlikely to really develop beyond this. Light on structure, it's a pleasant wine for near-term drinking.

Toasty, smoky, currant, mineral, and charred sugar nose. Med-full bodied with charred, toasty flavours, firm tannins and a long, sharpened pencil finish.
