La Tache in Atlanta: Acidic, showing its age, and somewhat less fruit than expected. A beautiful bottle, in fine shape, that was very good on its own and even better as part of a vertical.

La Tache and '96 Champagne (Atlanta): Decanted and filtered to remove cork bits. Great acid with some fruit remaining. Bright and crisp and very enjoyable. Best near the beginning as additional time did not improve and would have been better if we hadn't had to decant it so early to remove the cork pieces.

(Romanée-Conti La Tâche) Unfortunately our planned bottle of 1971 was corked, so this was the back-up bottle. Consistent colour with 86 and 78. Slightly mineral nose, some sweetness, smokey bacon covered with caramel coupled with fresh higher tones. The acidity is not quite so refined as the others - parallel here with the hot vintage and 1997 - and the tannins still have a grainy texture, but the fruit has real intensity. A very interesting bottle that (again) like the 1997 took on more balance with aeration and time. A very worthy backup.

Still with a core of cherry fruit, with lovely secondary character of forest floor, leather, spice, elegant, long finish

At the Bellm's with Matt Peters in the kitchen. Light, clear ruby. Delicate and balanced in all directions. A pleasure to taste.

Austin 3-star food + wine; 1/30/2022-1/31/2022 (Our residence, Austin, TX): This seemed to be a great bottle for the vintage. Fruit was still vibrant, and age imparted lovely length and elegance. Very thankful for opportunity to experience this.
