  • Damn near perfect wine. Had for wife's 40th birthday, along with a lineup of first growths and Napa cabs. Love the elegance of Lafite.

  • 2019 Bordeaux Tasting, MW tasting (Vintner's Hall, London): 94% CS 5% Mer 1% PV, 14.50%, bottle open 2-3hr before
Amazing depth of fruit, blue and black fruit, gentle and highly extracted, floral notes, showing some fine stalk hints elevating the fruit, the oak is nowhere to be found
Palate is as glorious as the nose, with balancing acidity, black fruit, full body, long persistent finish, textbook tannins, absolutely brilliant

  • Lovely and dense on the nose a palate but I’d honestly struggle to tell this from Lynch-Bages or Pichon-Baron 2019s blind. Probably half a notch better than those but nothing like enough to justify the price tag: Lafite aint Latour (which often most certainly doesn't justify the difference in price, for my palate at least)

  • You know that scene at the end of Twister when they release those ping-pong ball sensors and then the computer lights up with all the data from inside the tornado? That's kind of like what the 2019 Lafite does to your tongue. Okay, it's not a violent tornado and quite the opposite is characteristically serene and placid, but it just lights up every sensory receptor you've got with a swirling array of flavors evoking some of the carob and black truffle elements you ordinarily need to wait longer for, with tannins that somehow manage to be both satiny and incisive. The fruit starts out on the darker end but has turned red by the end of the bottle, which is also when the first indication of any oak comes out. It's a raw rather than toasty wood - I was surprised not to see it come out in that usual pencil-shavings form - and it was the only aspect of this that served as a reminder that I'm not supposed to be drinking this now. But I regret nothing.

  • A stunning example of Lafite Rothschild, the wine is deep, ruby in color. The attention seeking perfume serves up its Cuban cigar wrapper, roses, spice box, cedar, lead pencil and array of red fruits and blackberries easily. The most refined of all the First Growths, the 2019 is a modern version of classic Bordeaux at its best. Perfectly balanced, elegant, and deftly situated on the corner of power and harmony, the finish lingers and expands with its layers of sweet, fresh, pure, bright, crisp red fruits, spice, and herbs. The wine blends 94% Cabernet Sauvignon, 5% Merlot and 1% Petit Verdot. Patient consumers will be rewarded if they are willing to wait before opening a bottle. Drink from 2030-2065.
