Light straw color. Drank a couple glasses over an hour plus. Pear, yeast, fine mousse, full bodied, stone and chalk, fresh, orchard fruit. Love these. 93+pts.

Mag. 30 months on from my first taste of this (in half), the extra bottle age and magnum format has done wonders for this. Fresh, already nicely rich, a degree of complexity and focus, the dosage quite evident but not obtrusively so. This should be fun to follow ove4 the next couple of evenings. ****

Roederer Collection 242 vs 244. Both wines offer a lot for an entry level Champagne. Fine brioche and toffee notes, citrus and white fruit and minerality. Good balance, relatively fine mousse and good freshness. So far, the 242 was my favorite iteration but the 244 offers more freshness and cut which I prefer. These are not the most complex or elegant wines but punching above their price level for sure. The 242 (rated 92pts) went to a slightly dormant phase but is fully back and singing. The 244 (93pts) might be slightly less complex today but has more acidity and should age better (not that the 242 isn’t ageing beautifully).

My wife and I adore these. So consistent. We love chiseled, precise champagne. This is so much better than the vast majority of champagne that's twice the price. For the anniversary of our first date.

12% alcohol. This is based on the 2017 vintage (56%) with an extra 34% coming from the réserve perpétuelle started in 2012 and the final 10% coming from oak aged reserve wines. C 42%, PN 36%, PM 22%. Dosage 8g/l. Partial MLF (34%). The colour is light gold with very fine fizz. The nose is ample and dominated by ripe yellow plum; very enticing and free of any oxidative note. Similar in the mouth with superb intensity throughout. The dosage is very well judged, and generally unobtrusive except fleetingly after the mid palate and eventually when the wine warms up. High class and probably the best NV Champagne that I ever had.

Weak sauce like last bottle. Light bubbles, sweet berry fruit. I had to double-check the bottle to confirm this was from Champagne and not northern California. No brioche, apples or lemon. Really no complexity to speak of beyond the berries, with light tang and metallic note. Still 2 bottles more to go. Next time can only try with maybe shellfish or asian food.

Disgorged January 2022 (via the Roederer app and scanning the bottle code); 8g/l. So this got maybe a year more time on lees than the initial release.
The nose is rich: brioche, some flinty/matchstick minerality, white flowers, quite complex with each swirl and sniff adding notes.
The palate is slightly tart and slightly saline on entry then full and rich with white stone fruit, a hint of slate-y minerality. The finish is very clean, not at all cloying, and quite long.
Overall, this is a somewhat richer fizz than I most commonly drink, but it's very nicely balanced, and a good wine with food (although for me not crisp enough for an aperitif). For the ~US$47 that I paid I can see myself getting a bottle or two in occasionally.

Finale decisamente lungo.

Settled into a very nice phase. Traded some of the energy for more complexity and an excellent balance of stone fruit, some citrus, brioche and ginger. Classic and good value at just under $50.

Brief notes from social event. Pear and apple fruit, powdery or dusty minerality, almond slivers, apple. Fresh acidity on the otherwise mostly dry palate, even if there is a hint of sweetness into the finish.

Pear, peach with lemon and lime which also add acidic balance. Some apple. Nice concentration of flavours with a touch of cream and oak on the finish too.

Annual Tasting Group Holiday Party (St. Genevieve, Mpls, MN): Had a small pour at the holiday party reception. This was the same bottle as galewskj and Chablis28. Pure, fresh, pear, citrus, creamy texture, vibrant. This was a great bottle tonight. Love this wine.

Our local wine group holiday private dinner for 22 @ St Geneive Minneapolis. Roderer is one of those producers who from top to bottom deliver outstanding Champagnes. This has become a "go to" cuvee for me along with the Anderson Valley Brut & Rose'. A beautiful glass that's lively & intense but elegant champagne & plenty of complexity tonight. Paid $50 last year. Easily drinks like $75+.

Almond layer complements the pear and apple fruit. A fresh bees wax component adds character. The palate with more nutty complexity, citric freshness and vibrant acidity. Consistently delivers.

Good champagne. Dry, creamy, and rich. Somehow more powerful than elegant at this point. As someone else said down thread - appears to have traded some energy for complexity.

Thanksgiving Wimps 2023 - Alfred Stieglitz Table (La Trompette): Served from magnum. This is singing just now. The nose was so vibrant on pouring, a hint of apple - neither over nor under ripe, and a certain lemon / candied lemon hint to it. Brilliant start to proceedings.

Open for a social event. Fine nutty notes, fresh herbs, a bit of wax and yeast, mineral notes of cold rock. Nicely crisp and harmonious palate, another 3-5 years to go before the peak is reached here easily.

Not an Ordinary Monday (Lorenzo's , London): A very solid all rounder NV but in many cases one of many and lacks a special side to the equation. Nothing to fault it and makes for a great aperitif but also lacks the memory factor. 89-90

I don't get the hype with this release. After having 5 bottles only 1 was pretty good(and this was by the glass), and every bottle tasted very generic, manufactured, and without strength.
Very soft on the nose and palate with quickly receding bubbles. Weak vanilla and toastiness that dissipates in the acid. Drink cold or it gets flabby really quick.

A year has really helped this settle into its fit a bit better. The reduction has integrated and a nice toasty 'brioche' sort of note has blossomed. This gives it a real nice, pleasing classic character. It makes me want to try the 243 since its based on a fuller vintage.

Flowers, dough, buttercream frosting or maybe marshmallow, lemon candies, herb garden. Silky mousse with an impressive balance between sweet and sour, and a long, satisfying finish. This affordable NV continues to impress.

Pretty fine mousse, stays for a long time. Smells of apple and French toast. Green gooseberry and red apple peels. Great mousse on the palate but it is fuller bodied. Medium acidity. Lemon tart cream, lime, cranberry’s tartness, chalk. Butter and yeast on the finish. 9/18

No comparison to their lovely, classic and timeless Brut Premier which they unfortunately replaced with this disgrace. Generic appearance and taste, not worth the money nor words. They sacrificed their quality for quantity in order to reach new customers. In my opinion a terrible decision.

Fantastic champagne on the cheap (relative cheap) I love everything about this. Balance, intensity, concentration, fruit & elegance. You dream it, its here. Delighted to own 4 more. At around $50-$60 a Roederer you can afford to open on a whim as we did tonight w/ Nita's homemade version of "chicken nuggets" along with our 2 grandsons and their less interesting beverage of choice :). Capped up the rest for tomorrow & beyond. 93+

Opened and followed over about 1 1/4 hrs. Somewhat tight at first; great bubbles, but not much taste. As it warmed up a bit and with some air in the glass, maybe some citrus, but still no particular distinctive taste. Not sweet; a bit on the tart side. Good+ acidity. Not toasty/yeasty. Maybe more minerality than fruit at this point. I have a few more of these and will hold for a while before trying again.

A nice champagne. Starts with a green apple like character, followed by a well balanced acidity and toastiness. Develops on the palate for the first 30-60 minutes but was a lemon juice by the time it reached the 2 hours mark. A great option for the price point.

I don't know if knowing exactly what you are drinking - thanks to the enhanced disclosure on the bottle of base vintage and reserve wines - has helped a bit, but this was gorgeous tonight. It does merit attention for an NV, and I think this was better than the Brut Premier I remember. Surely knowing how old your wine is helps, so that you can pop when you like it most. Thanks LR good job with enhanced disclosure

Golden in colour. Rich nose showing pastry cream and citrus. Medium to full bodied, fine bubbles, and no shortage of midpalate energy and persistence. Really good. Equally as good as my best experience of this Champagne back in September 2021. Pleased to have some mags in storage.

No detailed notes taken. The best bottle since the early days with more complexity circling around an orchard fruit core and brioche, butter and caramel. Still fresh and with an elegant mousse. I think this comes to show that this iteration will benefit from additional ageing. Great value for money (not considered for the rating) and better than the 243rd iteration.
Decanting: No decanting needed.

Drank blind at our last Extremo tasting last week. Nice bottle of bubbly. Noticeably French, also noticeably not a Blanc de Blanc. Good fruit, with green apples and perhaps some pear, brioche, somewhat creamy, not terribly acidic with big bubbles and a pleasingly long finish. Good choice by Stevie W (for a change... :))

12% alcohol. Base year 2017 (56%). C 42%, PN 36%, PM 22%. Dosage 8g/L. Pale golden colour with very fine persistent fizz. The nose has yellow fruit and verbena, quite elegant. Similarly classy in the mouth with seamless balance; the dosage does not call attention to itself, except perhaps in a discreet feel of roundness in the finish. This seems to me to be a step or two above the Brut Premier that the present cuvée replaces. A success and a repeat purchase, especially when the base year is more promising.

Lovely pale yellow colour, fine mousse and abundant fine bubbles in the glass. On the nose, typical green apples and toasty brioche notes. The palate is fresh and zesty with citrus elements dominating and has a real zing about it but not to much that you notice the abundant acidity and generous but dry finish. Has personality and my house champagne until stocks run out. Dosage 8 g/l

Medium-bodied, fine mousse. Sugar-frosted peach, toast with lemon curd, quince jam notes. Excellent shape, highly enjoyable, potential for improvement.
Second bottle of the 242, this one the December 2020 disgorgement (via the code on back of bottle). A better bottle than our first, maybe more time under cork.
Elegant nose with slight yeast. Rich and creamy, nice mouth feel. A bit more verve on day one that rounded out with time and air. Nice acidity, wonderful balance, plenty of layers: Tart apple, maybe pear, some minerality. Doesn’t have the most personality but this is a friendly, accessible wine. If it was a few dollars cheaper it would be a no-brainer house champagne.

I hope other versions of this wine in the future (e.g. 243, 244, etc.) are as good as the 242. I can't think of any broadly available champagnes that are this good at this price point. We'd drink this every day of the week.
Another excellent bottle from the superb Collection cuvée. This was rich and bright with plenty of acidic cut and as deeply flavoured as a fine apple pie. Certainly more ambitious than the NV it has replaced. Very impressive although admittedly not the most Australian of Champagnes.

Medium lemon, with medium plus intensity, developing aromas of brioche, lemon, lime, almond, and cherry. This wine has high acidity, low alcohol, full, bodied, and medium plus intensity, flavors of lemon, lime, brioche, almond, cherry, and pear. This wine has a long finish. It is very good quality. What is noteworthy is the body in the extremely long finish.

New Years Eve. First sip, seemed heavier, ponderous. I get slight pineapple. Great energy. But it seems thick, heavier, more flavor. But what? Bitter. Flavor occurs at back of tongue. Was forty degrees upon opening. Will see what happens when it warms up. Now later into evening, this is more pear with undercurrent of butter grapefruit. But there is something else there that increases body. This is good and falls in the middle of the road for me. Think it's worth trying again.

One of the better NV champagne’s we’ve tried - paired with this year’s Vacherin Mont d’Or. No detailed notes taken. From magnum. Fresh and zesty from start to finish, yet the reserve & solera parts make this wine round and creamy. Toasty and bakery notes, citrus and a touch of minerality, all quite well defined. Quite complete. I’ve had this roughly 30 times since release and it consistently scored between 91 and 93 pts (this is the third published note only) and based on my experience, it is a Champagne that is well liked by both, connoisseurs and non-wine pros. In my eyes it was best right after release from the 750 and this magnum brought some of this magic back (the normal bottles seem to lose a bit of tension).

Two bottles drunk through Christmas morning and afternoon. Seemed a little lean and closed at first, lacking the pleasure of last year's bottles, but class won out, the wine then showing a little grilled pineapple and toast as well as the fine-boned citrus that was present throughout. Will do my best to hang onto the remaining bottles a bit longer.

Christmas Day Champagne to start the afternoon off, more of an aperitif really. Anyway, extremely nice, crisp, very dry, excellent bubbles. Quite expressive, green and grassy, with rich toasted brioche alongside baked apples whilst retaining a mineral freshness and verve. Decent value at £38 I thought, so I've bought a case to keep for a while.

Christmas eve dinner. Perhaps it was not that good an idea to have popped this alongside the '14 Roederer. Not a bad one - it was tasty/very fresh, went with food well... but beside the vintage Roederer, it came across as a "fun drink" - this, to toast and drink down in a gulp whereas the vintage Roederer, to sit back and drink/taste/enjoy... Anyway, a nice bubbly...

Disgorged 02/2021, 2017 base. Has that common Roederer finish of lip-smacking acidity and salt. Otherwise a pretty neutral and banal Champagne. My first of the new collection series, and at least based on this bottle, have concerns of a downgrade from Brut Premier.

Last of my 242s, consistent with previous notes. Good value at the discounts I got them at but lacking the depth and length of mousse that I'm seeking now as my bubbles palate has matured a bit.
Slightly disappointing qpr. Consistent but flavors are shy, missing definition and acid. 3 more bottles. Will hold and see if they mature with complexity.
The wine is composed of 56% of 2017, with 34% coming from a solera-like perpetual reserve that is even parts of the five previous vintages: 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015 and 2016. The balance (10%) comes from large oak barrel reserves going back to 2009. By adding the collection number to the founding date of the house, 1776, you get the year that it was bottled. If you subtract one from that number, you get the base vintage, for this first release it is 2017.

Truly outstanding stuff, for its level The multi vintage (including reserve wine) character of the wine comes through -- fresh yellow apples alongside bruised yellow apples and some earthy notes. Fresh to slightly underripe raspberries. The autolytic notes are of baked brioche. Medium bodied, middle weight. Some chewiness on the palate. Finishes dry but not austere. Excellent length. 91-92 Definitely a non-vintage I will buy again

I have decidedly mixed feelings about this fad for numbered NV cuvées but anyway. Mid straw colour. Moderate toasty aroma. Expansive mousse. Very clean, appealing taste, but young. Green apple, lime. Bright and sharp, good concentration but needs a few years' bottle age to really shine. [Cork? + cage; 12% abv; Woodwinters, £45].

A blend of 42% Chardonnay, 36% Pinot Noir, and 22% Pinot Meunier. Based on the 2017 vintage with the addition of 10% reserve wines aged in wood (2009, 2011, 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016) and 34% of the perpetual reserve (2012, 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016). 34% of the blend went through a malolactic fermentation. Aged on the lees for at least three years. 8g dosage.
Disgorged January 2022. Released from cellars July 2022. Pale gold in the glass. There’s respectable complexity here for such a young Champagne with yeast-like aromas of white bread dough, floral notes of freshly picked white flowers, mineral elements of crushed chalk and polished steel, a fruit profile of yellow apple skin, peach, and nectarine, and a feint spiced character akin to lightly pickled ginger. An impressive offering that should appeal to those who enjoy their Champagne fuller in style.

Multi-vintage champagne blend from Roederer showing a fresh, clean nose of green apple, ripe pear, yeasty brioche and a mild salinity. Medium acidity with round, soft bubbles and a cream-like texture on the palate with notes of tart green apple, crusty lemon tart and steely minerality. This needs at least 60 minutes of bottle air before settling in.

Medium straw in color. Lots of tiny bubbles. Faint noise of brioche, sour green apples, and saline. Balanced acidity with a decent level of lift on the tongue. Palate of sour green apples, lemon zest, and yeast. Dry finish of seashells, saline, green apple skin, a hint of yeast, and a hint of lemon zest and pith. On the dry side for a Brut and a bit one dimensional.
We decided to pop open a bottle of Roederer estate to compare them side by side. Before taking cost in to account, I think Roederer Estate is a much more complex wine. Although I prefer the dry finish on the Collection 242. I just can’t get over the price difference.
Don’t get me wrong, this is a good wine and very well made. But yet, I am very disappointed with this wine when I bring in the price tag. It’s comparable to Nicolas Feuillatte Brut that you can buy at $28. If this was in that $30-35/btl range, I would be singing its praises. But at $50/btl – this falls flat. Especially compared to Roederer’s California outpost.

Nice straw color showing a bit of age from the reserve wines.
Nose was a bit muted at first, probably because of the temperature, but it showed apple, citrus fruits, lemon zest, peach, white flowers, a bit of nuttiness and butter with a focus on roundness.
The palate was fresh at first with red apple, citrus fruits, peach, hawthorn and lemon zest and again turned more round with depth from brioche, hazelnut, yellow pear, apple blossom and a bit of ripe berries. The dosage felt a little bit too cloying for me, even thought it’s only 8 grams. I’m just getting too used to Extra Brut and Brut Nature…
Overall for the price of ~€40 it’s a well-drinking champagne but again there’s so many great growers out there making fantastic champagne at that price point!

PnP one bottle for starting the weekend, prior bottles consumed recently were indicating a better showing with decent decanting or more holding time, as this is a blend of different vintages, the main vintage is 2017 in this cuvee, chalky, zesty initially, good weight here, but again, with more and more aeration in the glass this one gains complexity, pome fruit, creamy nutty tones, great crispy, limy finish, as said before, will hold some bottles for the future, **(*- ****), around 91- 93

A beautifuly zesty nose with hints of caramel and brioche. Alive yet elegant, one is greeted with citrus, ginger and a nice hint of Malo oak spice on the palate. There is a lovely brightness to the body from the chardonnay and a refined buttery texture. Nicely formed effervescence leaves one feeling refreshed but thirsty for more. A lovely entry level offering.

Hampshire Garden Barbecue: Ok - a cut above the preceding bottles. Clearly a “Grand Marque” style but none the worse for that. Just full, balanced, elegant - spot on. Very pleased to have a couple of these left in the cellar.

Drank at Helen Darroze in London. This was better than the prior 1er Brut which this replaces which I have had in prior years. Crisp lemon and lime with hint of sea spray and wheat. Slips down the throat easily and achieves a nice balance between being light on its feet with enough fruit and stuffing to keep it interesting. Not as impressive as Krug (best NV champagne I have had) but drinks well at a nicer price point. 92-93

First bottle of this about a month prior had a slightly odd green note on the finish, but this bottle was showing well with more balance and a pleasant medium length finish.

Popped at our house in Seabrook and just chilled on the porch. Perfect bubbles for a relaxing vacation. Seemed like there was less green apple in this bottle, but could have just been the lack of food that hid it. Great Champagne, still one of my favorites. Drink now - 2030.

Yellowed gold in colour. Yeast and bread notes on the nose. Quite fresh and spritzy on the very front of the palate, builds into a luscious, long mid-palate, and then fades gracefully into a minerally end palate. Flavours of green apples, almonds and a dash of lemon. Drinking very nicely now, but possibly needs 2-3 years more to show its best.

Creamy citrus aroma with notes of yeast and flowers. Crisp salty lemon, lime, and tangerine flavors with a red apple finish. Racy acidity. Well balanced with decent minerality. Nice texture.
Tasty, but not sure I’ll but it again — lacking something special. Drink or hold.

Pale golden yellow in color with a very fine & constant perlage. Full, forward & fragrant nose of ripe fruit aromas of apples, stone fruits & citrus notes of lemons/limes with overtones of floral & yeasty notes, almonds & secondary notes of chalky, minerals & wet stones. Medium-light bodied with a very good concentration of well balanced & smooth textured, ripe fruit flavors of green apples, stone fruits & citrus notes of lemons/limes with yeasty/toasty, stony & minerals. Lingering finish. Drinks quite well at present although should develop further with additional aging if cellared properly.

Disgorged January 2021. Toast, dough, yellow and orange fruit, honey, wet stone flavors. Notable structure and length. Fine mousse, creates palate lightness.

My clear WOTN at our recent champagne & sushi tasting! There's a lot of Cristal character in this new cuvee. Exceedingly well balanced & racy with unexpected concentration and purity. Love to taste this alongside a fairly recent version of Cristal! Every other btl that night was playing second fiddle to this, for me. 93+ Delighted to own a few of my own!

Very light and lifted...perhaps too light, as for me it seemed to lack depth compared to some of the other champagnes we had this evening. Nevertheless, it shows a great acid backbone and I suspect with some more age it will show some additional facets. For now, best paired with very light fare.

Consistent with previous bottles, this is absolutely delicious to drink and a crowd pleaser. True to the house style, it has good complexity and precision centering around charming bakery/toasted oak notes, is round, harmonious and elegant and already today ready to drink. It might even add a few more layers with age but I’m not sure, if it will get much better than it is today. To date, this is the best Champagne I’ve had in this price category (available for around 35 dollars in Europe). 93+ pts
TN: Right from the go (previous bottles often needed a bit of time) expressive on the nose and palate. It has not the depth or laser sharp precision of the great Champagnes out there but from start to the medium long finish this seduces with sensual brioche, bakery, toasty notes, some fresh orchard and citrus fruit and a touch of minerality. Very round and elegant, fine mouse, good acidity and freshness. Very complete.
Decanting: This bottle didn’t air. But it won’t hurt either to give it some time in a Champagne decanter.

What to do in the late afternoon on a sunny Saturday? No way out without a fine sparkler! For just sitting in the sun, I like the full bodied big house styles of Roederer/Bollinger/Krug. so pnp one 242 again, not fully ready in my view, needs a lot of aeration to get a first fine balanced structure on the palate, showing some zesty citrus, nutty tones and pears/apples, limy flow, every sip this one is getting better, but I really do think, that holding some bottles of these for at least a 5+ years time in my cellar will increase the quality for enlightening my mood! An easy 92 for today, **(*-****), 91- 93(+) potential

Sulfury reduction. That along with the middle, balanced expression give this that classic big house style. There are details in the notes below about the makeup of this wine. I'm hoping the keep the perpetual part going and extend that age delta so it gets longer. That will certainly help pickup the complexity in the future. At least in a way I like my Champagnes. This is pretty good already. The palate shows berry tinged apples with a citrus kick. Some Asian pear on the nose. A bit chalky and grippy. Plenty of acid but not really driven. Doesn't show the high dosage. Very classic. There is some chance for improvement if that reduction wood note integrates more and the fruit gets less nervy. I'm happy at the $44 per I was able to pick this up for. I've seen it closer to $60 which I'm not quite sure its good enough for yet. Definitely looking forward to trying future renditions from this program.
Was looking forward to this. Nice color and good texture. Quite a bit of yeast and brioche with a slight green note at the end, which was a bit of a surprise. Hope this shows better in the future.

Company event wine. Don’t get the hype on this bottling. It’s just a simple, crushable bubbly. Super light with a distinct note of brioche. Lean body, short finish. Not really much to add here. Maybe good for people who don't really pay more than $50 per bottle.

2017 base, with reserve wines of the 2009, 2011, 2013, 2014, 2015 and 2016 vintages, partly aged in oak. 12% ABV. Light straw golden colour. Apple, lemon effervescent powder, light peach, almond, yeast, bread crust, brioche, toast, light vanilla, and mineral undertones, with good acidity and superb length. The mousse is initially perceived as a little coarse but softens with aeration. The oak is very discrete and well-integrated. The wine develops additional complexity as it breathes. Harmonious and well balanced. I like this quite a bit! Should be even better in a year from now.

Got a case for a very good price, around 39€ per bottle, now got some halves and bottles, so this is the first vintage numbered since the founding of this producer, replaces the Brut premier bottling, based on the 2017 vintage, 34% wines of reserve, 10% barrel fermented wines from the vintages 2009, 11, 13, 14, 15, 16, 10% from barrel reserve wines, so we got 56% from the 2017 vintage here, great smell, full of toasted bread, no....., really yeasty still, some baked pears and apples, the mouthfeel is really great right from the start, quite full load of brioche, baked pome fruit, dense flow, great limy core, the style more like Krug and Bollinger, give me a rounded, for a champagne, full bodied sparkler, not lacking this fine Roederer elegance, would say will benefit from some more cellar time, but really delicious flow and swallowing right now, recommended if you like the more full-bodied champagne style, **(*- ****), around 92,93 (+) potential
And as always if you pnp a very young high class Bottle, the contents of the bottle will benefit from further aeration, much more layered now, complex, with all my (our) beloved Champagne aromas, great structure, if you can buy more of these, go ahead! Tonight an easy 93

Retail $55. 42% Chardonnay, 36% Pinot Noir, 22% Pinot Meunier. OK, this is more than a bit complicated, particularly for a tasting note, but this is the what is replacing the Brut Premier, the flagship wine for so many years. Collection 242. OK. Buckle up. The house was founded in 1776. Add 242 (=2018) that was the year the wine was bottled. Subtract one (=2017). That was the year that represents the base vintage. Got it? Math is hard. Golden in the glass with a fantastic citrus nose loaded with brioche and fresh croissant. Yowza. The palate is classic champagne: rich, tart, loaded with yeastiness and fruit. And the balance. And the finish. And the math.
Just a brief note. Pale gold color. Nose has green apples and walnuts. Fresh and acidic palate with very fine bubbles. Long finish. Very nice Champagne.

I was skeptical about this, since its a replacement for the Premier bottling, which I love. Why.....! Why would they want to replace that beautiful champagne....Oh! This is why! This is on another level, with the same taste level as the previous mark. This has more of everything in the other. More toast, more bouquet, and more power. Worth the extra few bucks for sure! Drink, lovely
Very tight on PnP, with thiamine and sulfurol apparent. On day two, more fruit, and lots of ethyl octanoate. On both days, some lemon character, and great cut with the acid.
Hold on the next bottle for at least a year or two.

Brief impressions after one glas at Restaurant Schloss Monaise in Trier. This could be a new benchmark for basic cuvées among the grandes marques. Impressively full flavoured and vinous. Very good complexity for its level, there has to be a real quality to its reserve wines. Textured, refined and with a pinpoint perlage. I am eager to drink this again.

Amarillo paja ligero.

A hauntingly beautiful nose: a whiff of sea-spray intermingles poached pear fruit dusted with spices. The palate is delightfully linear: the acidity and freshness riding the base of tangy orchard fruit.
The wine is perfectly pitched between freshness and maturity: the toasty complexity will reveal itself slowly over the next few years, but the wine feels complete already.
Zesty, mouth-watering salinity on the finish lingers on and on. Lovely!
242 is a definite step-up in quality from Brut Premier (look out for limited edition magnums of 241, which is 2016 base), with better balance, superior complexity, and the right sort of freshness (bright rather than acidic). What is more, it drinks better on release (some releases of Brut Premier needed several years in the cellar to achieve the same level of quality).

Jean-Baptiste said everytime when Antonio Galloni came, he rates the Collection highly (as do many!), however he couldn’t publish his ratings as there is no distinction of each release on the label, and no release is the same.. Jean-Baptiste agreed and decided to start adding release number, September 2021 release was Collection 242, replacing Brut Premier.

Opened for approximately 45 minutes before consuming the 1st glass. This wine was drank out of a Grassl Mineralite.
The color was a pale straw. The nose was slightly muted (possibly too cold) but showed some sents of white flowers. The taste was crisp with light citrus and orchard fruits. It has a slightly oily mouthfeel. The dosage is pleasant and well balanced. It does not come across as being too sweet.
The 242 was an enjoyable wine at this price point. I prefer this bottle to a similarly priced yellow label.
My score is a 92+ and I will buy again but I don't see a need to go out of my way to find it.

A nice showing. Very much in the grand house style. Leading with seductive white flowers, citrus oil, creamy. Generous dosage but then cleans the palate with crisp acidity. A really competent NV base Cuvee, the price will probably rise to reflect this upgrade style.

Better showing this time around. The last bottle seemed a bit sweet whereas this one read more as rich than sweet. Perhaps the cheese last time around was not the best pairing. This time we drank these out of paper cups in a hotel room while getting ready for a wedding, but the wine still tasted quite good!

Good champagne, more on the aperitif side of things as the dosage feels higher. Very friendly and smooth but also not simple, has enough complexity and acidity too make it a good drink. I would not run out and buy this but I also won't turn down a glass if offered.

Nice enough but the dosage feels a bit high at the moment. I'll give my remaining bottles a bit more time to settle in and try to pay more attention, as this was consumed with guests to accompany appetizers and I couldn't pay enough attention to the wine. Main thought was simply that it seemed a touch sweet but had a relatively good density of fruit as well.

Lemon acidity combined with a creaminess and some apples fruitiness on the palate and showing a pleasant citrus intensity on the finish. Very nice and fresh and well integrated already, but should benefit from some extra cellar time. (Probably best with 3-9 years extra cellaring)

A new project of the Roederer family, which will replace the classic cuvee of Brut Premier. Collection 242 is their second vintage and its a multi vintage cuvee, similar system is implemented by Jacquesson family. This particular cuvee compiles of 6 vintages, spamming from 2009 with a base vintage of 2017. Medium golden. Aroma of lemons, honey, brioche, flowers, nutty and apricot touches. Palate is creamy and zesty with good structure, bright acidity and string of sweetness i would rather avoided.

Second outing with this wine and this time imbibed as an aperitif and accompaniment to starters. It was served a little too warm, still delightful core of quite open fruit, not too strict or serious, nicely balanced and very pure. Lovely.
N.B. I preferred this wine on a previous occasion when I would have said 93 points when it was enjoyed following a tannin fest - e.g. Barolo 2010 dinner and then a particularly disagreeable 2008 old vines Barbera - and then it seemed so refreshing and I was in awe...

While this had some nice aromas and palate of citrus, minerals and moderate toastiness, unfortunately the high dosage made it quite sweet and confectionary on the palate. I actually prefer the (now discontinued) Brut Premier, which I am happy to have a few more bottles of. The 242 might integrate better in time though. If I had another I would sit on it for a few years and hope for the best.

Quite aromatic and fumey, with cream and a suggestion of musky flowers and the refreshing towels provided by nice hotels in hot places. Refreshing on the palate, with more cream, some red fruit, but also lemon, spice and even quinine, giving it some of the thirst-quenching aspects of a G&T. Maybe a tad skinny for my palate at the moment, but my remaining bottles of this should be even better (and I'm looking forward very much to the 243 too).

Toasty and smoky on the nose with rich tangerine fruit and tones of apricot, cherry and almond. Super generous and pretty complex with a savory edge, what’s not to love? Fine and persistent mousse is on the gentle side. I am quite surprised by the wonderful vinosity and sheer size. Has good richness and depth to it both texturally and flavor-wise. Abundant ripe fruit. A very satisfying style, to some degree because of its fairly conventional dosage that yet doesn’t come off as too high for my palate that surely is moulded by the bone dry grower stuff. Manages to be very tasty and drinkable with a lingering finish that goes on and on and has delightful bitter and savory tones. Roederer wines are always super well made but as is intended this one is splendidly charming and characterful as well, if then not quite in the same way many grower wines that come from a single village and perhaps variety are. A wildly succesful new launch I think, but will this style appeal to the casual drinkers? Does it need to? I don’t know, but it the price remains at this level I can well see myself buying stronger base vintages to cellar.

I feel inadequate: "green almonds"? "fresh beeswax"? I don't even get stale beeswax. In any event, this was quite pleasant. White orchard fruit, some pastry, citrus oil. Sort of middle-of-the-road: medium-bodied, decent acidity, but not overbearing, not thin, but not especially concentrated. Compact, everything in its proper place. Pleasant.

Nose was a little subdued at first, but with a bit of coaxing you get clean citrus aromas and a hint of brioche. Palate was on the fresh and zesty side, but with a lovely silky texture and an additional layer of depth vs. most NV's. Lovely flavours of lemon, apple, pear and brioche, but with finely judged acidity and no rough edges. The quality was also apparent in the finish, with was a decent length and had a lovely creamy, citrusy quality to it.
Tasted this alongside a Bollinger special cuvee, and the Roederer was fresh lemon drops to the Bollingers peaches and cream, but both great quality. The Bollinger had a bit more richness and depth on the palate, but the Roederer had the longer finish. I'd probably go for Roederer with creamy cheese or shellfish, and maybe the Bollinger with fin fish, white meats or anything where you need less zest and a bit more body.

One of the best Roederer's I have had. Touching wood certainly made this sparkler a more modern CALI driven flavor profile wine. Lovely and enjoyable young so don't wait to enjoy this wine. Higher price point than most but worth the price of admission. I am a fan and backing that up with my score.

It’s good. Generous, toasty and peachy upfront. Long finish. On day 2 I find some very noticeable bitterness and greenness on the finish. There’s this odd dissonance between the leanness in terms of mouthfeel and the evident dosage. I wanted to like it more, as it can be found for very cheap if you play the game. I won’t be backing up the truck on this one but I expect the 243 will be better and the 244 even more so.

Very rich nose of brioche and buttered toast with a hint of lemon zest. Vibrant and energetic palate of lemon curd and chalky minerality with a fine, lively perlage. Never been a huge fan of the Brut Premier, always seem too disjointed and angular...drinkable, but I would only buy on the cheap. Don't get to drink Cristal as much as I would like...but will try anything that gets me closer to the heavens gate, but on the cheap. This 242 Collection is definitely closer to Cristal than it is to the brut premier. With a good amount of air...you get a refreshing burst of citrus energy...crisp with Chardonnay brightness...alive yet elegant lemon ginger effervescence...then creams up nicely with some baked apple, hazelnut butter, malo oak spice, yeasty lees, vanilla honey...great chalky limestone salinity...pretty white flowers florals...SO balanced and in harmony...precision...yet with breadth. Hell with it...just tasty as F! Honestly I was a bit disappointed. Very savoury. Tight too. So I can only hope that this was due to the bottle being served too cold in a noisy restaurant, rather than it being the ordinary 2017 vintage.

They've succeeded in making a splash with the launch of their new "entry level" wines, with deft use of reserve wines adding a depth and complexity that you don't typically see at this level or price. You get all the expected autolytic, chalk and orchard, stone and citrus notes, but you get a whole other dimension of richness that doesn't drink at all like a '17 based wine.
Hopefully they can retain this style, which reminds me of earlier Charles Heidsieck Champagnes, whose recent vintages have seemed to lack some of the bass notes.
Not repeating the story of the new collection, but it really is much better than the previous entry level champagne. The back vintages adding depth and complexity while keeping the freshness. This drinks great already, especially on day two but will be even better in a couple of years. At CHF34.50 that I paid, this must be the greatest deal in champagne!

Strong effervescence. Light white fruit and minerals on the nose. Mineral and chalky on the palate, with subtle depth and some bite on the back end. Lingering finish. Good now, but I think there's more to come with additional bottle age.

Outrageous value. Roederer Brut Premier was probably my favourite widely available NV Champagne and this is an even better proposition. It's certainly richer than the Brut Premier, but sacrificing a slightly less linear approach is more than made up for in this wine's depth.
Buttery pastry, light wet stone, and plush orchard fruits greet you on the nose, already signalling what's to come. Beautiful balance on the palate between generosity and tension, with balancing acids that play against the golden apple fruit and light nuttiness. Layered and deep. Long, textural finish.
Roederer simply has no competition among the large houses for quality. This is so, so good.
Graham's 2010 Barolo dinner (Portland): Obviously only very recently released, but already showed very well, and to my taste better than the old 'regular' NV (at least, in 75cl format). Real finesse and sophistication, a chalkiness usually associated with something more expensive than this, and none of the slightly green and thin tinge I sometimes get from too-young Roederer NV.

First taste of this new NV Champagne, based on the 2017 vintage. This is a massive step-up from the Brut Premier of the past. The influence of the almost 50% of reserve wines (34% solera wines from 2012-2016, and 10% reserve wines aged in oak) can be felt clearly (and maybe the fact that no Cristal 2017 will be produced and much of the material went into this Cuvee helped too): the wines is more complex with more roundness and expression. Punching very much above its weight (especially when you can get it as low as 35 Swiss francs).
TN: At first, the wine is a bit muted on the nose but with more time in the glass and a bit of swirling it gets more expressive with brioche, orchard fruit and some minerality. On the palate this is quite precise with apple, lime, lots of salty minerality and a layer of bakery/brioche aromas. Round and with fairly fine bubbles, fresh and lighty, yet already creamy enough to be charming. Quite complete.
Decanting: PnP. Got better the longer it sit in the glass. Would have needed a bit of decanting.
not released yet, the new Premier Cru A very good NV champagne for a big house. Not too sweet easy accessible. 91
BdB 2013 A treasure, I think the best value you can get ad Roederer. So elegant and The Chardonnay shines fine and reluctant. 94
Cristal 2008 Too young but it shows its elegance. In blind tasting would lose against DP in the most cases. Similar to Comtes de Champagne in the beginning stages. 96
Cristal Rose 2009 A beauty, not detectable as a Rose, it is like silk and velvet. 97

Il bouquet presenta freschi sentori di mela verde, pesca bianca, note agrumate di scorza di limone, fino a note più complesse di burro e crosta di pane. Very soft on the nose and palate with quickly receding bubbles. Weak vanilla and toastiness that dissipates in the acid. Drink cold or it gets flabby really quick.

Medium-bodied, fine mousse. Sugar-frosted peach, toast with lemon curd, quince jam notes. Excellent shape, highly enjoyable, potential for improvement.
Dosage: 8g/L. Composition: 34% perpetual reserve, 10% oak-aged reserve, 56% 2017 harvest. Disgorged: 12/2020.

Nice notes of brioche and toasted pineapple on the nose, lovely CO2 and mouth feel with great acidity, and a finish that left us wanting another sip! Quite delicious - will grab more bottles and definitely drink again.

Truly outstanding stuff, for its level
The multi vintage (including reserve wine) character of the wine comes through -- fresh yellow apples alongside bruised yellow apples and some earthy notes. Fresh to slightly underripe raspberries. The autolytic notes are of baked brioche.
Medium bodied, middle weight. Some chewiness on the palate. Finishes dry but not austere. Excellent length.
91-92
Definitely a non-vintage I will buy again

Overall for the price of ~€40 it’s a well-drinking champagne but again there’s so many great growers out there making fantastic champagne at that price point!

prior bottles consumed recently were indicating a better showing with decent decanting or more holding time,
as this is a blend of different vintages, the main vintage is 2017 in this cuvee,
chalky, zesty initially, good weight here,
but again, with more and more aeration in the glass this one gains complexity, pome fruit, creamy nutty tones, great crispy, limy finish,
as said before, will hold some bottles for the future, **(*- ****), around 91- 93

For just sitting in the sun, I like the full bodied big house styles of Roederer/Bollinger/Krug.
so pnp one 242 again,
not fully ready in my view, needs a lot of aeration to get a first fine balanced structure on the palate,
showing some zesty citrus, nutty tones and pears/apples, limy flow, every sip this one is getting better,
but I really do think, that holding some bottles of these for at least a 5+ years time in my cellar will increase the quality for enlightening my mood!

Got a case for a very good price, around 39€ per bottle,
now got some halves and bottles,
so this is the first vintage numbered since the founding of this producer,
replaces the Brut premier bottling,
based on the 2017 vintage, 34% wines of reserve, 10% barrel fermented wines from the vintages 2009, 11, 13, 14, 15, 16,
10% from barrel reserve wines,
so we got 56% from the 2017 vintage here,
great smell, full of toasted bread, no....., really yeasty still, some baked pears and apples,
the mouthfeel is really great right from the start, quite full load of brioche, baked pome fruit, dense flow, great limy core,
the style more like Krug and Bollinger,
give me a rounded, for a champagne, full bodied sparkler, not lacking this fine Roederer elegance,
would say will benefit from some more cellar time, but really delicious flow and swallowing right now,
recommended if you like the more full-bodied champagne style,
**(*- ****), around 92,93 (+) potential
And as always if you pnp a very young high class Bottle, the contents of the bottle will benefit from further aeration,
much more layered now, complex, with all my (our) beloved Champagne aromas, great structure,
if you can buy more of these, go ahead!

This is a big step up from the Brut. More fruit, more oak, better balance. They nailed it on this one. Let's hope future editions are as good.

Dosage is definitely present but lends a lovely richness to this - it is a superbly balanced champagne with a long, saline finish. Very accomplished big-brand NV

Bravo Roederer with the new blend! 42% Chard, 36% PN, 22% PM...34% perpetual reserve(2012,13,14,15,16), 10% reserve wines aged in oak(2009,11,13,14,15,16) 2017 is the base vintage(56%), Disgorgement 2/2021, dosage 8 g/l.

Would have needed a bit of decanting.

not blind, ad Louis Roederer Reims
not released yet, the new Premier Cru
A very good NV champagne for a big house. Not too sweet easy accessible. 91
BdB 2013
A treasure, I think the best value you can get ad Roederer. So elegant and The Chardonnay shines fine and reluctant. 94
Cristal 2008
Too young but it shows its elegance. In blind tasting would lose against DP in the most cases. Similar to Comtes de Champagne in the beginning stages. 96
Cristal Rose 2009
A beauty, not detectable as a Rose, it is like silk and velvet. 97
