Amazing Bordeaux To Mark A Special Birthday (Noizé, London): A final treat at the end of the evening, this is very darkly coloured and not all that sweet, there is little barley sugar and a savouriness / acidity similar to that one see's in old Moulin Touchais. Hard to assess but by this point palates were tiring.

The 1963 is a seldom-seen vintage of Yquem, and by all accounts not an easy year, but it is a very attractive wine, fully mature and quite heavily glazed with botrytis: an exotic nose of grilled apricot, caramel, spice and Barsac-like barley sugar introduces a nice mid-weight Yquem with an open-knit but not yet fraying palate impression.
