2000 drc grands echezeaux Color: light pale red Nose: spicy, cherries, soil in a good way, fans out interestingly, floral after 1.5 hours, pretty & intellectual, gets better in the glass from a simple nose upon opening soaring to complex heights Palate: wow, delicious with the first sip, complex, full of layered flavours, good concentration, just a lovely Pinot, mature and ready to drink, WOTN with 2010 tours cotes Rhone & 04 haut brion
Both bottles were almost identical. I have mistaken DRC’s GE for La Tâche a few times over the years as it tends to have a soy character that I see in La Tâche and this had it as well as some beef stock and smoke. It still had the engaging florals and red berries of the Echézeaux but was a little deeper and had a bit more stemsy grip to the finish. The fruit was jube like and sweet and luscious.
Drank with OT in LV. Wonderful bottle and in the perfect place! 00 Vintage continues to shine for me, great pinot nose, cherries galore, in the mouth wine bursts with a kaleidoscope of flavor, terrific acidity and length, if you have these drink the now.

(Romanée-Conti Grands-Echézeaux) Similar colour to the Echézeaux, though paler in shade. The nose is much broader and deeper than the Echézeaux, showing a significantly blacker fruit profile. The palate again shows good ‘fat’, perhaps a little more acidity and certainly more of the smooth tannin. The finish seems just as long, though on a much lower register and also shows a hint of vanilla. A more interesting and complex wine than the Echézeaux – leaves a smooth coating on your teeth.
(DRC Grands Échézeaux) Deeper, jammier than the 2000 Echezeaux. Incredibly dense nose. Very perfumed. The Burgundian opera in full swing. So supple on the palate. Rich and ripe with black and dark red fruits. Not as explosive as the 2000 Echezeaux. More refined and finessed. So delicate. Long and detailed finish. Wow!
