Loads of floral spice on the nose along with notes of sap, musk and game. It is very sweet and vinous in the mouth with some sweet meat flavour and plenty of plant material. It has a silky texture and good persistence and is a very decent old red Burg but not earth shattering.
Slightly musty when initially opened but eventually opened up into a wonderful aroma of red berries and flowers. Medium bodied with an almost syrup-like mouth feel. Exceptional amount of sweet dried fruit and spices on the palate. Long finish.
Dinner at Bern's with Penn, Scott, Eliza, et al. This was out of magnum. WOTN for me. Stunning, spicy nose with loads of red fruits wafting up out of the glass. Perfectly balanced and still plenty of time left. This had some asian spices, soy, dried red fruits showing through. The wine kept it's youthfullness and vitality for hours.
First night in Mecca (Berns): From Mag. Full red with pink edges. Full aroma of ripe black fruit with lifted acidity, black spice, and cola notes. Rich thick black fruit syrup with a licorice round long finish. A few brown sugar and cola notes emerged with some time in glass. Absolutely lovely!
