The one with Luca Roagna (Teochew Paradise): Pop and poured into decanter for 15 mins before serving. Flamboyant bouquet with iron, violets, roses and macerated plums with persistent fruit concentration on the palate along with dried leaves, blood orange, dried roses and gevrey spice. While plenty of fruit, this was slightly lean and thin on the palate although it culminated in a regal fashioned finish with plenty of length and fruit concentration. Truly, Rousseau's Clos st Jacques are a special bunch.

Pronounced nose intensity with notes of red fruits, cherry, strawberry, lead, violet, flora. Medium+ acidity and medium tannin. Drinking at its peak now.

This showed very 2001. Pretty lean dried red cherry fruits surrounded by a nice firm acid structure. A fine wine, but overshadowed by the riper 2003 served along side. Very good, but short of greatness as this is a more muted less giving version.

8th of 12, opened 3 hours, perfect cork and level, not quite up to last bottle in June 20, more edgy and with sense of dilution, fine structure and relaxed fruit expression of course but unless it gets a second wind downside from here if no real rush. F+ (18).....maybe one better consumed in plusher on the fruit stage!

The 50 Big Bash (Harry's NYC): I'm not a big burgundy drinker but I'd never turn down a Rousseau. One of the top producers to me. This showed exactly as so much of the wine does - fresh and light and well structured but with a certain elegance and ease to it. A bit of an interesting finish. All around great.

Beautiful nose but this bottle doesn't follow through on the palate for some reason. Clenched and not showing much. Hard to understand given how well my other bottles from the same batch have been.

Youthful nose with gloriously pure strawberry fruit, touch fo spice. Aromatic. Medium bodied, pure strawberry again, spice, lovely weight, soft tannins, expands beautifully on the long finish. Lovely, drinking well.

Lunch at La Trompette (Medlar, London): Last tasted in 2097 and unsurprisingly has moved on from then. Bright mid garnet. Light and airy. Silky. More nuance but less heft than the Fourrier. Very pretty, verging on the ethereal, but nothing inconsequential here. Understated, but lingering depth. Lovely. Mature and ready. *****

Wine Tasted at Acker Auction (Ci Siamo - New York NY): Small glass, walk around tasting. Good combination of fresh and maturing, leaner than the best bottles I recall from the past, but very Gevrey with good length.

2001 Burgs (Noize): A predictably lovely sweet, perfumed, ethereal nose. The wine's really notable quality was the perfectly judged ripeness on the palate, so balanced, refreshing and tangy, obviously picked at the perfect time such that 21 years later we were treated to a beautifully harmonious chorus of bright red fruit. Just right, then, although a few days later as I write this note I find myself more drawn to the darker, spikier Cathiard from the preceding flight.

Red cherry fruit is gorgeous and giving with still ample density. Then you get the sweet earth and spice box that edges out on all CSJ from Rousseau with age.

Friday Night Ramonet & Rousseau (RPM Steak - Chicago, IL): a baby in this vertical. Oh my, so much rich, sweet, meaty black cherry with great spice. New wood accents that are well integrated but still pronounced on the nose. Wow, richly youthful and concentrated fruit that is loaded with spice. Delicious and fun, but better in 10+ years.

Served in an '83. '89. '95 vertical. Clearly the youngest tasting, I found this showy and delicious with a dense red fruit core supported excellent structure. Not nearly as nuanced or spice driven as the others tonight, yet still holds real promise of developing even further. Crazy to see I bought this for $110 back in the good old days.

Much slower to open than previous bottle, but typical gaminess comes out with a few hours; dense, deep, smooth, long, savory. Cellared since original release.

Tasted blind tonight, it’s easy to conclude this is a Rousseau Clos St Jacques although I certainly mistook it for a younger vintage. Beautiful ripe red cherry, woodcock, rose, fresh earth, and a hint of bitter dark chocolate. The aromatic volume and mouthfeel are so impressive here. A beautiful, cohesive package of the things that make CSJ special.

PNP, which was a shame as it began a bit tight, but with wonderful aromatics only to keep opening with each sip as the evening continued.
Pretty nose of spicy dark earthy fruits in an almost showy way that was quite regal and impressive. The palate showed nice dark fruits. but was initially slightly dominated by the structure probably the result of served near cellar temp. The dark core of fruit significantly improved as the wine warmed, which perhaps belies the full potential here. Overall, quite good and sophisticated, yet a touch tight likely due to the 2001 vintage conditions with fruit showing slight fading.
Shows classic earthy Gevrey style at GC level with a complex a tone. Anxious to try another bottle in a couple of years, although current auction value gives serious pause unfortunately.

Two hours of air really helped as this seemed a bit muted at first but then blossomed into a fabulous Burgundy filled with sweet and earthy cherry fruit. The finish sports a superb mineral crunch with very complex notes of spices and red soil. A fine bottle of this that could use a few more years for the tertiary flavors to develop further. Very fine and elegant.

1/1, cork c40% soaked. Pale garnet core, wide ale garnet rim - touch of mahogany. Nose is aromatic with strawberries, cranberries, florals, lightly gamey edge. Complex. Medium bodied on the palate, red fruits, touch of plum, some game and soil, soft tannins, fresh acidity carrying an extended, harmonious, gently spicy finish. Drinking really well - the epitome of harmony and balance - but should also go on for years.

Sadly, I didn’t take detailed notes, but this was delicious. Extraordinary layers of flavour, with concentration and complexity on the nose, palate and finish. Tannins are soft and fine, the acidity balances the fruit, and the finish is very long. Outstanding. Fully developed and at peak of drinking now. It will not improve further but there is no hurry to drink.

A great bottle of this wine. Much improved over one consumed in 2017. This still had plenty of beautiful complex fruit but starting to show secondary notes of mushrooms, forest floor and moss. Captivating on both the nose and palate. My favorite from a flight of top rated 01 premier crus including Vogue Amoureuses, Meo Camuzet, Vosne Brulees and even the Leroy NSG Boudots from the same year. Reinforced my already strong belief in Rousseau burgundy.

Clos St Jacques Dinner (Gunther's, Purivs Street, Singapore): I have had this numerous times down the years, and it has never failed to wow me. This had a lovely nose. Sweet, perfumed, even floral, with red cherries and raspberries draped with a garland of roses and violets, a bit of earth, iron and spice. Lovely stuff. It was delicious on the palate too. Juicy and energetic, with orange acidity and velvety tannins wrapped around a beautiful pure core of red cherry. Lots of quiet intensity here. This just coated the mouth with flavour, yet remained so light and lovely in spite of its depth. I loved the finish too, with the sweet red fruit being met with a gently savoury counterpoint of earth and mineral and spice, and just the lingering kiss of sweet oak and citrus acidity. There was something a bit Rioja-like about that. I just loved this though. It closed down a bit after an hour opened, but when it was first poured - wow.

Dinner with Tom and Deb Mortimer of Le Cadeau: A Mix of Le Cadeau and Other Gems (I Nonni, St. Paul, MN): Medium red color. Drank a glass over 2 hours. Same bottle as Chablis28 and I completely agree with his notes. Wow, gorgeous nose, perfumed, floral, great spices, pretty red fruits. The palate is so elegant, and as Chablis28 said, harmonious, a wine of great purity, a mix of strawberry and cherry, wonderful spices, roses, long with very fine tannins. Thanks for sharing this Craig.

Opened & poured a small test glass about 90 minutes prior to leaving for I Nonni. The home pour started out pretty shut down but opened up in short order and seemed quite promising without need of a decant. The btl stood up for 12 hrs to let the sediment collect at the bottom back label. At the venue, I left in the cork keeping it cool in my bag till we drank it. The color was a semi translucent ambered red as expected from Rousseau at age 17+. Where as the previous December 2011 btl was cloaked in oak, here it was fully integrated. Harmonious & balanced. Roses, berries and forest floor aromas. Minerally semi tart rainier cherry & raspberry along with tertiary; sous bois, mushroom, game and cinnamon on the harmonious deep and mature palate. Signature Rousseau silk and weightless finesse. Grand Cru density and concentration. My December 2011 note stipulated waiting till 2020 for my next btl. Not a bad guess eh? I have one more and while tempted to drink it next year I'll likely wait till the spring of 2022 when its a full 20 years old and see where we land then. Loved it! 95pts+

This starts off very strong and really embraces the duality of great Gevrey - such elegant deep red cherry aromas with lots of game, smoke, soil, and mineral. Served from bottle without decanting, this fizzles a bit by glass 2.

not harmonious, it felt like there might be some solid material (not special), which didn't come together well. over time it became less interesting, not more. pristine bottle from a source i consider impeccable, it just felt like the structure and fruit are not in sync.

Brought to a local BYO and drank in Riedel burg stems. The nose was nicely perfumed and leaning towards some red fruit, flowers and spice, without much in the way of mature notes. It took some swirling and time to get it out of first gear, and the nose never really moved beyond the category of "good burgundy." In the mouth, the fruit was lean and a touch astringent, especially through the mid-palate. Jonathan found the wood frame to be out of balance, and the fruit lacking. Not heavy oak signature, but drier than we would have liked. I saw what he meant, however I didn't feel it ruined the wine quite as much as he did. While enjoyable, this ultimately came across as disappointing. It was not obviously flawed in any way, simply not balanced or exciting or impressive as I was hoping it might be. Perhaps just not a great bottle? Perhaps the fruit was never ripe enough or "there" enough to make it to 20 years? I do not think, based on the characteristics we experienced, though, that this will benefit from more time.
Pretty nose of medicinal cherry-barnyard. Tasty medicinal cherry fruit with notes of funky earth and faded flowers. Ethereal texture with grippy acidity that builds in intensity to a fabulously crunchy and complex finish with notes of minerals and red spices. This is in a good place for drinking now but will certainly hold.

2001 Red Burgundy at Chez Hugo (Chez Hugo, Baltimore): Huge perfume. Roses and cherry fruit. If all wine could smell like this. Sap and density on the palate, clarity and focus, and above all harmony. This is the iron fist in a velvet glove. A wine of multiple layers and sensory input, yet all in perfect harmony. Great inner mouth perfume. There is wonderful earthiness below the wealth of perfume, fruit and florals. An effortless, wonderful, Zen like wine. While the Chambertin may be the better wine in a decade, this is drinking at its apogee, and I doubt it will fade any time soon. For me there is great joy in drinking at bottle at its absolute apogee, and I felt like this wine was there tonight. Wonderful 97

2001 Red Burgundy Retrospective (Chez Hugo - Baltimore): Perfectly mature complex nose displaying sweet black fruit, strong Chinese medicine and cedar, a hint of sous bois, caramel, sautéed mushroom and earth. Beautifully integrated harmonious palate, subtle sweet black fruit driven palate impression, silky and weightless, perfect amount of acidity and mineral, nicely integrated tannins and a long sweet black fruit driven finish. It is showing excellent finesse. This particular bottle is drinking exceptional well.

An Evening at the "Schwarzer Adler" - Part III (Schwarzer Adler, Oberbergen (Baden, Germany)): Glass: Riedel Burgundy From a perfect bottle, decanted for about 1h. Deep, ruby-tawny color. An amazing, intense perfume that only great Burgundies can provide: Herbs, spices, red fruit, oak, blood, meat, mineral notes in a complex, multi layered melange of flavors. Awesome! On the palate perfect elegance: power and pressure wrapped in a silky, velvet carpet of flavors. Fine red fruit, herbs, lots of mineral notes, all combined with a medium+, ripe, perfectly integrated acidity. Lots of extract and concentration, very precise. Oak serves only as the backbone to give this wine a wonderful structure. Juicy. Very long and lingering. Certainly not even close to its peak, but very joyful to drink now! Great wine in the making. 96++

Indianapolis III; 9/15/2017-9/17/2017 (Indianapolis, IN): A fresh nose with great crystalline red fruit. There's a nice touch of earth on the nose, with a light bit of minerality as well. The palate isn't too heavy at all, and the freshness of the fruit and acidity definitely reflect the brightness of the 2001 vintage. This has a lovely litheness to it, but there's still tons of power and concentration. On opening, this was fairly simplistic, but air has amplified the aromas and flavours in this, and the texture became more and more silky as the night went on.

Unfortunately, this was a bit tainted - nose of slight cardboard that didn't quite blow off through the night. It was still drinkable though, if one is not too bothered by the taint on the nose, with red-berries and stony minerality...

Mid week Burgs with Paul at Trade Kitchen (Trade Kitchen, Wellington): Dark ruby just beginning to brick at the rim. A heavenly bouquet of red currants, red cherries, warm earth, mixed dried spices and stony minerals. On palate, a gorgeous CSJ, relatively open, showing appropriate evolution for a 16 year old wine. Serious Grand Cru structure and gravitas. Lovely, precise acidity. A core of sappy red berry fruit. Refined and satiny with an attractive, austere 2001 character. Toasty oak largely consumed and aligned. Great length. Finishing the bottle the next day it had moved more secondary, savoury, showing fallen leaves and a little tar. A superb wine, I sense, at the start of a long drinking window.

In a nice place showing some signs of maturity evident by some bricking and more importantly a bigger spice profile over the red fruit core, which while present took a backseat to the secondary qualities. Well balanced and nice tart chew, quite good overall. The Burghounds in the group loved it, while the New World palates were less intrigued.

Gevrey Chambertin Dinner (Imperial Treasure Super Peking Duck, Paragon): Absolutely supberb - just when I thought that the 2000 Jadot Clos St Jacques was pretty special, along comes this was a fabulous wine. I have had this numerous times over the years, but this bottle has been the best showing by some distance. Tonight, it bloomed out the glass with a wonderful nose of red fruit and flowers, then earth and stony mineral, with a touch of umami accents and a seasoning of spice at the edges - wow, it was so attractive. The palate was all vibrant energy, vibrant wed to ripe and lushness, with transparent notes ofred fruit, spice and mineral melded into one perfect package of balance and harmony. Lovely long finish too, laced with a gentle spiciness as it glided away into the backpalate. My notes are littered with words like Elegance, Freshness, Definition and Perfect Precision. Drinking this wine just brought a smile to my face. A truly great Clos St Jacques, showing at the very top of its game at the moment.

Clos St Jacques night: The greatest wine of the group, without any question. Immediately upon opening showed a beautifully alluring perfume of fruit and earth and stone. The wine improved over the course of an hour and at its apex was essentially spherical - perfectly balanced and composed. Beautiful fruit that itself was very complex and layered, and a long finish that demonstrated this pungent earthy minerality that on this night I learned is the stamp of this vineyard. A wonderfully delicate wine too, for a wine of such impact and raw material. Truly great wine.

Garnet turning brick - beautiful clarity of colour. After over an hour in decanter, subtle, yet distinctive nose of classic farmyard, redcurrant, crème de cassis, cedar and a hint of pine. Palate is fruity, powerful, yet silky and sensuous. Tannins present, but in no way overbearing, and the finish is long-lasting with a delectable after-taste. As Meadows would say, "very sexy juice", and wish I had more.

3rd of 12, decanted 30 minutes, perfect cork and level, previous notes VF - mid red, little development, limpid; attractive, subtle bouquet, red fruit, sous bois, touch of mint; medium bodied, but long and mouth filling, silky, but slightly dumb, usual laid back Rousseau style, not singing tonight and pipped by the 2000, needs time. Subdued nose - black cherries, raspberries, menthol, mint, touch of tobacco, and coffee grounds. Still tightly wound on the palate, not tart but not very generous or lengthy. Dense and deep though. Still primary just barely peeking at secondary. Clearly a beautiful wine just not yet approachable, closed down at the moment. The '96 Clos St. Jacques a few weeks ago was supremely expressive and the '90s recently have been beautiful as well, seems like this wine has ten years to wait before it hit those levels.

2001 Restrospective (Gray Newman's): The nose is raspberries and red cherries, with a just a light hint of oaky vanilla, and a touch of mint. There is not a lot of aromatic complexity, but something about it suggests depth. The red fruit carries though on the palate, where there is lots of concentrated extract but this is extremely elegant and poised, still quite young with something held in reserve, but velvety with lots of acid, and a hint of stoniness on the finish. There is a weightless fullness here, a sense of real substance, that the Roumier Bussiere lacks and that is so typically high-end Burgundy. Beautiful. Shame about the price though.

VERTICALE CSJ FOURRIER VS. ROUSSEAU: Naso non perfettamente pulito, un pó vegetale, polveroso, a tratti torbato. The 90 La Tache dinner also 05 Coche CC, 88 Krug and 01 Rousseau CSJ (Decanter restaurant, St. Regis): Very youthful slightly masculine expression which is quite different from the 01 Rousseau Chambertin which was mostly tertiary and subtle. Most black fruit driven, strong note of spearmint, damp forest floor, Asian medicine, mushroom and earth. Excellent concentration, earth black fruit driven palate impression, bright acidity, nicely integrated tannins and long finish. This particular bottle is very youthful and will require another five to ten years of cellaring to reach the peak which is quite surprisingly in lieu of how well the Chambertin was drinking recently. Nevertheless very enjoyable.

2001 Gevrey-Chambertin Grand Cru Dinner (Kheam Hock Road): The first of the reds, this was quite a start. It had a beautiful nose, with dark cherries riding on a backdrop of earth, spice and wet stone. With time, some savoury notes of meat stock and umami started drifting out alongside the fruitier notes. A rich, heady nose; on the darker side of Gevrey, but very lovely. I really liked the wine on the palate as well. It showed lovely clarity and freshness, with its rich dark cherry notes ringing with energy, but also touched with a classic Clos St Jacques coolness and undergirded by a nice, stony minerality. Past the midpalate, the wine seemed to ease into a long, gentle finish, but this quickly gave was a to a nice strong grip of fine tannins. I really liked this wine. It was very complete, at once having tons of strength and yet also to a clarity of fruit that I have enjoyed in the best 2001s. This was much, much better than when I had it back in 2008. However, while drinking quite nicely, the structure and balance of the wine wed to a hint of CSJ austerity that is still there now makes me think that it really needs another 6-8 years more before showing at peak. Very good though – this could easily pass-off as a top Grand Cru anytime.

Decanted 3.5 hours. Slightly occluded colour, but classically Rousseau in texture and perfume. At least 5 years shy of being ready, reticent, lacking generosity. But everything is in place. Nose better delineated than the palate. I do not share the view that this, or other 2001s, are thin or somewhat lacking. This will be compelling in another 10 years or so.

Dave's 50th birthday party. Had it while the 50 Lafite was opening up. This is one gorgeous bottle of wine. What a long finish, and the fruit was so bright I had to look at the bottle again to see if I brought a younger one by mistake. At least in Rousseau's hands, this is Grand Cru quality.

Quite a deep colour for a burgundy. An array of fruit on the nose: strawberry, raspberry, black cherry. Palate similar. With time, it developed secondary notes of mushroom, sous bois etc. At first it seemed youthful still, but it opened out to show a degree of maturity. Should keep well for a while yet.

Pale cherry red with touches of brown at the edge. Beautiful nose of roses, strawberry, crushed red fruits then limestone and gentle spices. Palate midweight but finely intense with great drive to a silky finish. Not as intense as a great year but beautiful nevertheless.

Beautiful. Slight browning; otherwise light-medium red. Relatively muted aromatically at first -- opening up to secondary components. Dill and other herbs towards the end of the bottle. Almost weightless on the palate. Impeccable balance. Gaining earthiness, complexity and the herbal components over time. Actual liked the first 2/3 of the bottle more than the last 1/3 -- the dill note becomes quite strong. A pretty minor quibble on the overall, though -- this is great wine.

Pretty nose of ripe, earthy cherries. Lighter-bodied with a really lacy, silky texture and delicate flavors of cherries, earth and red spices. The finish is a bit lean with a nice spicy cherry and ferrous mineral complexity. Really terroir-driven (what I would call a John Gilman wine) but to me lacks the excitement and intensity of many of his other vintages. There are some secondary flavors here and I actually don't see this getting any better. However, the lacy texture and earthy terroir and mineral flavors are really something though.

Armand Rousseau Dinner (Paris Club - Chicago, IL): Much like the 2001 Chambertin, this was somewhat quiet. The aromatics peaked towards the end of dinner with lots of rustic red fruits, underbrush, and dried floral notes. A really beautiful wine, but I would like to try this again in another 10 years. Feel like the added age would flesh out some of that wonderful fruits that's pent up in there.

My first opportunity to taste the vaunted Clos St. Jacques from Rousseau, and it did not disappoint. Tasted alongside the De Vogue Chambolle 1er cru the terroir differences were more than obvious. The Rousseau showing a sterner personality, with more mineral depth and less obvious fruit. I find the Rousseau impressive in its form, being a monument of a wine that commands respect. Perhaps not quite as much visceral pleasure here though. Still outstanding.

LPV -Oslo. 3-4h in decanter. Was tasted together with 2007 Roumier Amoureuses in a very interesting opposition of style (Terroir and Winemaker). The nose was deep and pure, amazing black fruit purity but appeared less changing than the Amoureuses and somewhat obscured by vanilla/roast even though intensity was superior. Palate was fantastic, still dense and light (as opposed to Roumier) but more spherical, bigger volume and longer persistence but from very refined and cleverly worked material. Excellent length. Great wine without a question, but I found the oak treatment a bit overwhelming and can't help thinking the wine would have been a tad better with more moderate handling?

Bobs annual wine weekend (New Haven and Guilford): The three Rousseaus ruled in this flight. The 02 is early, the 01 is balanced and I loved it, the 00 is downright sexy and best to drink tonight. Over time, it will be 02, 01 and 00 I think. They are al complex, ripe and elegant in a way that sets his wines above everyone else and rousseau is the reference standard for CSJ. the wines are dense, balanced, earthy with a wild mix of dark and red fruits and the finish goes on forever.

Looks so delicate in the glass next to the darker Dugat Lavaux. Yet, the floral and spice notes on the nose are intoxicating. Just stunning. Palate has that beautiful red fruit that is so powerful and precise, yet so clean and weightless. Wee bit of oak and youthful tension, but a great damn wine. I wish I could afford for Rousseau to be my everyday wine. I can dream...

Moderately piercing nose, still young. The palate is marvelous, not a blockbuster, but so correct, intense and just enjoyable. The balance he is spot on. A bit of concern as the finish has slightly dry tannins. (NYC WC)

Gorgeous fragrant nose. Delicate and cool with floral notes and delicate red fruit. On the palate cool and long with gentle ripe friut. Gorgeous stuff. Medium bodied and extremely elegant. It may get better, but it's drinking damn well now.

Bouchard, Huet, Rousseau, Jadot, Bachelet, Donnhoff ... and a 47 Barolo (plus more) (Dan's Flat, Southwark): Plenty of red and black cherries and noticeable but not overwhelming oak that presents as a mixture of pine needles and baking spice, and maybe just a hint of green. Where this really shows its class is in its texture: the fruit on the palate comes in layers that give it density but it's long and silky and perfectly balanced. Starting to show just a touch of development with slight savory characteristics. Excellent.

Translucent ruby. Nose of cherry pie and nutmeg. Medium bodied, very smooth and rich. Acidic spine is there but not too bracing. Very nice wine, but didn't separate itself from the 2006 Louis Jadot Gevrey Petit Chapelle poured alongside nearly enough to justify a 5x price difference. Not sure what all the fuss is about, but then again I'm just not really a Burgundy guy.

Mixed fruit, savory elements, and some oak on the nose. As the night carried on, the nose transformed to include strong caramel notes. Medium bodied, has that velvety Rousseau texture. Palate matches the nose. Very good, but a little too round for my taste. Not challenging (it's Rousseau after all), not hugely complex. I am glad that Rousseau has reduced the oak on this bottling in recent years. A-

Dinner at Tilia -- the new, old Heidi's: Light rusty, red color. Beautiful nose with deep black cherry and earth. Maybe slightly closed but still enjoyable. The taste is packed with flavor -- more black cherry with baking spices and what I took to be mint (?). It has great texture with plenty of acidity; still extremely tannic, which obscures the otherwise nice finish. I'd guess this needs at least five more years and will then be drinkable for an extended period of time.

Tasting Group Dinner - Burgs & Northern Rhones (Tilia, Minneapolis): I last tasted the 2001 Rousseau CSJ five years ago, and this bottle showed a nice evolutionary progression. While still firm, it is beginning to unfold and should be really rocking in another 3-5 years. Dark cherry fruit; deep, enchanting, and long on the nose. Very Gevrey in character -- masculine and brothy. Turns bigger and a little less pungent with air. Silky texture; lovely acidity; long finish.

A real beauty but a little closed on the nose. The '01 Ruchottes is currently more open and evolved. This wine is still very exciting but I'd wait at least 3yrs before opening one myself based on tonight's bottle. Try to wait till 2020 plus!

Lightish colour for Gevrey, but very pure. Reticent nose, so double decanted it, but without much change. Lovely perfume, but only a hint of what it should be at maturity. More generous on the palate, but still relatively ungiving, essence of herbs and garden flowers, sweet peas especially. Completely primary at this stage, and needs another few years. Should be excellent after more time, and score is likely to rise.

TK Farewell Dinner (Jade Palace, Forum): A little stemmy and with good complexity. This was light-weight but rather pure. Initially guessed this was a Chambolle from the purity and elegance. Still tight but definitely classy. Needs more time to evolve. However, it does lack some wow factor considering the pedigree. A wine for quiet contemplation perhaps.

2011 Simple Series 8: Farewell dinner for TK (Jade Palace Seafood Restaurant, The Forum Shopping Mall, Orchard Road): Alcohol :: 13.5% Wow, this displayed the essence of the Pinot: Perfume, elegance on the nose and palate. Expressive, seductive aromas of sweet red fruits, some fresh herbs intermixed with alluring wood spice and earthiness, very feminine. Rounded, layered with good sense of purity, elegance with its exuberant sweet fruits, good acidity spine framed by polished package. The tannin is well integrated and absolutely silky, while this didn't has the Grand Cru intensity, instead, it offered Grand Cru like harmonious that leads to highly persistent, spicy infused finished with mineral, tea leaves nuanced that lingered. Real delicious.

It was absolutely superb, showing an intoxicating perfume of sweet earth, red berries, violets and mineral. In the mouth it was sweet and lacy with great volume and near perfect balance. There are just a few savoury, development traits sneaking in but all in all this is a youthful, majestic bottle that tastes great now but will be great in 10 years.

Wine While Eating Well in Burgundy; 4/26/2010-4/30/2010 (Cote d'Or): This obviously would have benefited from more air/decanter time. Woodsy aromas with lots of dense black cherry and espresso. Firm and dense on palate as well with lots of power and meaty character. Long, powerful and teasing us with its potential.

Very light and elegant, with a hint of ripe tannins giving aging potential. Still quite lean compared to 96, 03, etc. Not offering as much drinking pleasure at this moment as it is likely to in 5 years or so.

Ruby red showing a but of age, very nice nose and beautiful entry to full palate. Cherries, spice, a bit of oak but has the fruit to hold up to the wood. Good length. Drank very well over four hours, with the last glasses showing best. Drinking well now, several years left.

Ridiculously tight initially, this does a 180 and ended up being my third favorite of the lineup. So closed in - with slow ox it explodes with minerals and black cherry, even working in some complex sous bois.

Ledbury December Decadence- lighter color, looked older than it was but i think that is more the vintage, nose was youthful burg though, red fruits, a little sweetness, in the mouth it was very well balanced and i thought fine with fine tanins, young fruit and a long finish, someone at the table said he thought it was more rousseau than it was csj or 01 which i thought an interesting comment as i always think all csj should taste as good as the stuff that comes from rousseau

2001 Gevrey Chambertin Grand Cru dinner (Sage, Singapore): Clearly a good wine, but oh so muted at the moment - felt like I was committing infanticide. The nose was buried under layers and layers of oak, redolent of coconut oil and white flowers (frangipani to my mind). Only after time in the decanter, more time in the glass and lots of swirling did the fruit begin to appear shyly, with some cherry on the nose, and more juicy cherries on the palate. The palate itself was sweet, ripe and a little alchy, but balanced off really nicely with a good tannin grip and good, fresh acid. Long, long finish. I get a sense that there are lots of flavours lurking beyond the oak and juicy cherries with this one. We had some exotic spice - saffron, white pepper and some other intrguing flavours - just coming out along the edges of the mouth towards the end of the night. Coupled with the great sturcture and nice long finish, I think this will make a a really nice wine 5-6 years down the road.

1er crus red Burgundy - 1999 and 2001 (Frankfurt am Main, Germany): (tasted single blind) Clear pinot on the nose, superb fruit with great purity, probably a bit closed right now. Good baby fat in the mouth, again superb purity of fruit, average acidity (good level overall), a bit more perceptible on the finish. Good concentration, the fruit is almost candied. Overall the wine ids quite restrained for the moment, the finish is ok.

Decanted 6 hours before serving. Tasted side-by-side with the 2001 Rousseau Charmes-Chambertin. Much tighter and younger than the 2001 Rousseau Clos de la Roche, which our tasting group tried two days ago. Very muted nose that only began to open up after 5-6 hours, revealing perfumed red fruit, tobacco, earth, and leather. The palate shows nice high-toned red fruit, spice, and lots of structure. A bit stern at this point in its evolution. Pronounced acid and tannins on the finish... a potential red flag here? Hopefully this wine will integrate and harmonize over the next several years. Very promising.

Audouzed for 6 hours before dinner. Complex nose of pure black and red fruit with floral elements. Pure red and black fruit with firm ripe tannins and exquisite balance.

Loved it! 95pts+

An Evening at the "Schwarzer Adler" - Part III (Schwarzer Adler, Oberbergen (Baden, Germany)): Glass: Riedel Burgundy
From a perfect bottle, decanted for about 1h.

Nose better delineated than the palate. I do not share the view that this, or other 2001s, are thin or somewhat lacking. This will be compelling in another 10 years or so.

2011 Simple Series 8: Farewell dinner for TK (Jade Palace Seafood Restaurant, The Forum Shopping Mall, Orchard Road): Alcohol :: 13.5%
Wow, this displayed the essence of the Pinot: Perfume, elegance on the nose and palate.

Open, a bit rustic but still elegant. Medium bodied, with layers of strawberry, red cherry, some tar, mushrooms and underbrush. Excellent balance. Very long finish. Delightful and ready to go!

Fresher than the Ruchottes, and with broader fragrance, light and silky, this is enchanting, but still a bit tight

Another "Ooooooh" wine, a real thing of lovely elegance. Did I expect less from Rousseau? Bright, big red fruits and berries vied for attention over the earthy notes, ending with an extremely long finish. Wow.

Awkward stage right now. Comes across as a little tart with the fruit more hidden and the acids poking out. Will stay away for a bit and let it come back together.

Good complexity and layering in mid-palate with solid intensity and mouth feel. Layering throughout the extended mineral driven finish. Oak is noticable however. Will it fully integrate over time?
