12th of 24 and first from new case, decanted 30 minutes, perfect cork and level, youthful robe, lemon and lemon curd prominent to balance weight of material, still some of the oiliness of youth, attractive minerality, particularly fine persistence, complexity and drive, still upside (amazing for nearly 20 year old white Burg), 10+ years. VF (18.5)........I've always been impressed by how well these BdM wines age and improve over many years (cf 1989 and 1990) so long as pox is avoided!!!

Sushi Dinner at Hatsu (Hatsu): Coming after the 2004 Perrieres, it had similar oxidative notes but had much livelier acid with great lift at the finish. Seem to be past its prime which is surprising, 2 years ago a similar bottle was still very primary.

WJL Birthday @ Noreetuh: A splendid wine. Brute force reduction - perhaps sulfur. Aromatically intoxicating. Beautiful purity of fruit. Round. Not a subtle wine.

Perfetto, grande bottiglia. Nessuna nota particolare perché bevuto da troppo tempo, ma eccezionale equilibrio, acidità giusta, pienezza, lunghezza. Tutto giusto

Flawed. This came across fairly oxidized, especially on the nose. The palate was still quite interesting, especially along side some mature cheese and paired well with the honey served on the side. Flawed, but I still enjoyed it.

Dinner at Chez Dalluge: Baptism of the New Kitchen (Chez Dalluge, MN): Still a light gold color. Drank a glass plus over 75 minutes. Wow! This was absolutely singing. Eleven years after the last bottle which was damn good, this is a revelation. When these are intact at this age, they are amazing. There's a simply riveting minerality here; dry stone meets ocean waves, white flowers, pear, apple, with fantastic lift and subtlety on the nose, and palate too for that matter. The mirror image palate is harmonious, concentrated and driven, yet light, lemon, soft texture, layered and caressing through the long, long finish. Thanks Craig, exquisite.

10th of 24, decanted an hour, perfect level, cork quarter travelled, still pale but much better than last few bottles, still a tad on the citric side, but more volume allowing flavours and inherent complexity to show, fine length and persistence and last glass best, upside, good for 10+ years of development (if no pox as here) with sense of being 3 to 5 years from best. At least F+ (18).

The wine looks light gold colored. The legs are medium. There is moderate sediment in the bottle. It taste like orange, apple, peach, pineapple, stoniness, black pepper and cinnamon. The body is medium/full. The wine has oily texture. The wine finishes long. The wine has low acidity.

Still a bit unresolved as there is still a bit of sulphur on the nose. A big wine with a bit if the house signature style. Long finish with good acidity to keep the wine in balance. Lots of tropical fruit lemon and some dried coconut. There is oak but for me it was not too distracting, probably would be better in a few years.

Decanted for a little over an hour before tasting.
Honeyed ripe stonefruits and citrus were the primary focus of this beautiful nose!
Pallet was delicious - layered, nuanced and well placed acitidy, with a beautiful mouth feel that was powerful but not without losing focus and good elements on minerality. Power without too much round. Long finish. Delightful!
Excellent tasting experience.

Light straw gold, immaculate. Intense sherbet and white flowers, lemon zest. Youthful, taught, focused, superb intensity and refinement. Lemon zest, sherbet, stone fruit spice, hint of orange rind, brought together in a perfect structure. Stunning at 16 years, no hint of age.

It pours to a straw yellow color and packs a lot of power. Very happy it wasn’t premoxed as it was right in the zone.
I found this both alluring and thought provoking as the immediate absence of mouth searing acid (produced in such abundance today) and reduction let’s the fruit shine. Ripe and nuanced orchard fruit is complimented by well judged acidity and age appropriate notes of marzipan.

A superbly clean and fresh example. A youthful blue bubblegum, faint frosting, and balsa wood above light yellow orchard fruit. Smells great but palate is really impressive, wonderfully round and rich. Good acid too, balanced and complete, a strong example.

Late release.

Pale straw yellow color. Nose of white apple, lemon and citrus. A bit of honey. On the palate it’s rich and sweet white and citrus fruits. Still quite young with tremendous structure and loads of balanced acidity. Medium alcohol. Got better in the glass, especially on the palate as it gained richness and depth. Really good and still quite young. Long and satisfying finish. Terrific with creme Brûlée served for desert. Would be interested in revisiting this in 5 years.

Color: blonde; Aroma: lemon/lime, mineral, green apple; Palette: mineral, lemon/lime, ginger; Legs: long; Acidity: full; Finish: long with a tang at the end (not true bitter, but a combination of acidity (there is that lemon/lime thing) and mineral. I have had better French chards. But chards are one of those wines that attracts a lot of variables! A little more life is in this wine. Pushed my drink window to 2025

7th of 24, opened 30 minutes, perfect level, cork half travelled, marginally more to it than December bottle, but too lean and mean for CC, odd for vintage and simply not what it should be!!! At best VGI (17)….a phase as bottles year ago were too fat?

excellent. had this next to a 05 Sauzet Puligny Les Perrieres. This was not surprisingly more lush, complex - fiuller in body and longer in finish. pineapple notes, minerality, acidity. for a 14 year old wine, delicious and enjoyable. I'm not convinced this will get better - may stay in this spot for another year or two - so I'd say drink up.

6th of 24, opened an hour, perfect level, soft and half travelled cork, pale, angular and acid, indeed thin and atypical but not poxed or corked, curiously the opposite of August's bottle which was too fat and lanolin, will the real wine reveal itself! Some style and pleasure but not up with the best bottles. VG+ (16.5).

Ex-domaine bottle. Fresh and primary fruits with not a hint of maturing note. Textbook Bonneau du Martray oily texture, especially in 2005. Glossed tree fruits, nutty white flowers. Broad-shouldered with hint of alcohol on the palate showing the warm vintage. (88/100)

Svakt utviklet farge. 95 p.

Bonneau du Martray Visit and Tasting (Pernand-Vergelesses): Tasting at the domaine. Slightly reductive start, which blew off quickly with aeration. A real powerhouse in this vintage, yet still fresh with unctuous depth and near burly, muscular textures.

Tasted blind – Rich and extremely generous profile of buttery white peach, fresh orchard fruits, rich and airy lactose with silky texture. A hint of vanilla spices. Oily texture with firm Grand Cru intensity, a flower waxy white flower note that is usually found in Corton Charlemagne. The weight and alcohol seems to be higher than usual, appears to be a hot vintage. 2009? (92/100) A 2005 White Burgundy outperformance, great energy and no flabbiness at all!

K's Visit (SPD Paragon): Ripe yellow fruits with honey chrysanthemum tea note and a touch of smoke. This has very nice intensity, power, influence of oak (new) that brings it to the Grand Cru level and noticeably honey sweetness at the very back told us this is from a warm vintage while still retaining good freshness and quite high acidity. Guesses Corton Charlemagne but can't guess this is a 05 though, maybe a 2010? To me this is still young and a bit disjointed. Will go the distance unless affected by pre-mox.

Pale yellow color. Beautifully expressive notes of citrus, lemon oil, white blossoms, some sweet spices, plenty of minerality/oyster shell, an almost saline note, also some smoke. It‘s medium-full bodied, but with excellent tension, medium-high acidity and a long satisfying finish with plenty of minerality again. A superbly aged, but still kind of young Corton-Charlemagne. None of the warmth some of the 2005 white Burgs have. Excellent.

This was gorgeous tonight showing this stinging intensity both on the nose and palate along with flavors of juicy lemon, white chalk and gunsmoke. 1st of 24, decanted 45 minutes, perfect level, travel up half cork - pale straw, leggy, young; pure, fresh, citrus and apple, slightly nutty, little mineral or steel; medium/full, impressive length, persistence and concentration, rich but dry mid palate with citric bite at end, bit angular and tight starting to show more after 2 hours, classy though, v youthful but with stuffing to develop. F+ (18) for now, but if this opens as I expect, expect serious re-rating.

Golden-yellow in colour, glowing, no undue signs of evolution. On the nose melted butter, crushed stones, white and yellow stone fruit, herbs. On the palate at first quite rich, but then the acidity kicks in. Quite tight towards the finish, very mineral, precise, vibrant. Very long. Wonderful. Drink or keep. 93-95

For LPDH 2. Ripe, full, sweet. Classicists will speak of over ripeness I think but there is no sur-maturite’. I am a BDM fan and I liked this bottle a lot. Better IMO than the 01 with more stuffing, not as good as the 02 which is even fuller but has a touch more acidity to balance out the ripeness. Tough company to taste in and a solid showing, I clearly liked it better than BradE. Along side the H.Boillot CC, close but I’d give the HB the win by a nose.

Agree with the note and tasting profile from Roboto on 10/21/17. This is very pretty wine with both mineral sharpness and a creamy texture that is very beguiling. No need to wait, no fear if you hold for a couple more years.

Finally opening up and showing its pedigree. Classic Corton Charlie nose of green Apple and wet stone. Silky and thick on the palate with great balance between fruit and minerality. Still somewhat subdued and I would expect it to continue to improve with a few more years of age. But definitely worth trying now.

05 is a corton charlie vintage. Martray nailed it in this vintage. Wet stone, yellow fruit, almond and minerals on the nose. Palate opens up in its 3rd hour. A very refined corton without being too fat and ripe. Possibly one of the best martray cc ever made. Still very young. Give it 2-3 more years. 92-93

Intense nose with high mineral profile, grapefruit, sage, white blossom, olive juice? theres a salinity just putting you in a place of awe. The pure concentration of fruit is epic and balanced by its inherit backbone acidity that just molds into a creamy long mineral finish. This is outstanding. No need to rush but I see no reason to wait either.

When I read Wineforth's review I thought: perhaps I also have oaky acacia. After reading Roboto's review I think: s..t, cork! My bottle tasted nowhere like what Roboto describes. There was something awfully close to cork in there. Strangely enough did not get worse with time. Got less with swirling sometimes. Some sips even yummy. But this wet cardboard smell kept creeping back in. I am betting on cork, there is no way that this wine is meant to taste like that. And am completely disappointed, was so looking forward to this one. No rating therefore.

Always afraid when opening the Charlemagnes from this producer, I have had so many pre-oxidized examples. This is just perfect, having reached a perfect plateau of maturity. Aromas of lime, citrus, nuts and minerals with hints of oil and dry wood. Full bodied, high acidity, lots of sweet citrus, minerals, oil and nuts. Incredibly long aftertaste. Extremely young for a 12 year old wine.

There's an oaky old acacia character that has some similarity to a corked wine, but this bottle certainly wasn't corked. To paraphrase an excellent note from another contributor 'Lemon zest and mineral spice, hint of crushed herbs. Coiled power, beautiful structure. Lemon and limes, jasmine and honeysuckle, hint of roast almonds.' Huge length on the finish.

Oh dear: yet another (slightly) premoxed BDM CC. What an enigma; superb fruit density and structure, and nice stoney minerals underneath but obvious oxidation on the nose and palate.
Another expensive disappointment from this once favourite, which, sadly, I've typically brought out with great trepidation, rather than pride, in recent years. This experience was a luncheon with a highly regarded wine-maker and his wife. The wife tried it once and wouldn't return to the glass because of the oxidation, proclaiming "life's too short..." The winemaker and I kept at ours, struck by the "what could have been..." element apparent from the quality fruit and structure -v- the oxidation.
I've spent thousands of $ (unfortunately, I mean it), for regular disappointment with this maker's Corton Charlemagne vintages from this millenium. With only one 2004 and one 2006 left I'll be relieved to close the BDM chapter of my drinking experience after over 30 years.

Lunch at Noosa. Pale green gold colour tells the tale of a wine in good shape. Initially quite closed austere nose of oak, green apples and stone but opened over an hour to show white peach, gooseberry, red apple, lime and lemon. This bottle demonstrated an assertive palate of fruit with a tense mineral grip and drive into a long aftertaste of minerals and white stone fruit. A terrific bottle of CC.

what an incredible experience, not a big drinker of Corton Charlie, but this wine had great acidity and edge, while having the most amazing density of material (in an elegant way), almost a felt-like texture on the palate that was saturated with lemons and minerals/minerals/minerals, velvety mouthfeel but with great acid / citrus presence, sooooo good and like something I haven't had before, almost like '94 jadot chevalier demoiselle but with loads more minerals and a modestly less sweetness, what an experience

Tasted at a larger walk-around event. First bottle drinkable but overly discoloured and slightly oxidised on nose and palate. Second bottle badly oxidised. Third bottle: very bright and clean fruit on the nose, white stone fruit, a bit of gooseberry, white flowers, minerality. On the palate slightly spicy, mineral, ripe fruit, great acidity, lots of depth and complexity, very long and lingering. Perfectly balanced. Wonderful. 95-97

This bottle probably did not have enough aeration. Nose had coconut oil, tropical fruit, honeysuckle and minerals. The palate had a mouthful of chalky fruit with balanced sweetness. If the bottle was given more time, the nut fruit could have emerged like the previous bottle. Give this at least 5 years before you open yours. 92+ today.

Wonderfully rich aromatics of ripe peach with a slight petrol note. On the palate, crisp limestone with peach and apple, a bit of peach peel on the finish, which is quite long. Delightful pairing with large, tender scallops, seared, and sauced with a ginger/satsuma beurre blanc.

Wine Group at home: Decanted 1 hour. The words that come to mind to describe it are: pure, precise, tight. It's white fruited, slightly spicy, slightly smokey. There's plenty of material here that is yet to uncoil, but it's opening out wonderfully now. Still harmonious a day later.

Excellent concentration and structure and very good complexity so I can see its Grand Cru attributes but this is another BDM CC with too much new oak for me. Now, at 10 years from vintage, I find myself in familiar territory with their CC; thinking "potential" and wondering if it will avoid premox long enough for the oak to integrate. With mixed sentiments, I've assessed it at about 90 points.

Has a little toast and some nougat on the aroma along with white peach and spice. It is dense and powerful in the mouth with great depth of sappy, rich fruit. It has plenty of structure lurking just below the fleshy fruit and it shows great persistence on the finish.

Corton-Charlemagne & Corton Dinner (Imperial Treasure Shanghai, Ngee Ann City, Singapore): Yummy and impressive, but perhaps lacking the grace of either the 1992 or the 1995, which we also had on the night. This had a ripe, attention grabbing nose, with notes of honey and toast and lots of big yellow fruited aromas lined with some candied orange and a nice, chalky mineral underlayer. A really expressive, attractive nose. The palate was very giving too, with juicily delicious stone fruit at the fore and then reams chalky mineral and generous drizzles of honey and spice bringing up the rear. I really liked this when I have had individual bottles over the years, but tonight, in the midst of a line-up of other solid Corton-Charlies, this came across as very good rather than great. While mouthfilling and delicious, it was more on the hedonistic side, perhaps missing some of the cut and focus of the wines in the previous flight. Nevertheless the less though, this was very yummy juice. Moving forward, this may well be a BbM for the mid-term rather than one for the decades, but it should give a lot of pleasure over the next 5-10 years at least.

Bonneau du Martray Visit and Tasting (Pernand-Vergelesses): Tasted at the domaine. The ripest of all vintages tasted today, showing intensity but without fat. Apple and some peach on nose and palate. The low acidity and all the flavours reminds me of a Hermitage Blanc. Even if it doesn't perform as it should it is a nice match with the cheese and chark the host bring on the table.
My second premox bottle of this wine in the vintage 2005. 5 bottles have I tried since 2009. But I've never had a premox 2006 nor 2007. Good to know.

Very pale straw, lustrous and young looking. Nose of honeysuckle, grapefruit, peach and fine oak. Distinct spiciness. Medium weight, honey, honeycomb, citrus zest, hint of cream and peaches. A solid wine, finishing with good acidity and excellent length of mainly citrus and very fine oak spice and minerals. The secondary flavours add complexity rather than dominating in an oxidative way (which unfortunately has often been my experience with only slightly older bottles from Bonneau).

"Simple" Midweek Dinner - (Imperial Treasure, Asia Square) (Imperial Treasure, Asia Square): Lovely - this is very solid Corton-Charlemagne indeed. It had such an engaging nose, opening with little roasted nut and cereal accents, then some stony, saline mineral notes and a whiff of gunflint, all floating over a stream of sweet stone fruit and ripe apple aromas with a suggestion of floral sweetness at the sides. Very attractive. That minerally, gunflinty note kept growing with time too. Nice. I really liked this on the palate as well. It was perhaps in an in-between adolescent stage, but still gave a lot of pleasure, with nice flavours of ripe red apples, stone fruit and little kumquat notes wrapped in a nicely creamy, fleshy package. With time and air, this just got plumper and fuller and more honeyed and nutty. It would have been almost a bit fat but for a lovely streak of saline, chalky minerality running through the palate, and a wonderful sense of balance and definition that kept it neat and focused all the way into a long, textured finish, where flecks of cream and butter and honey edged with flinty minerality then pulled away into a powerful end. Beautiful stuff. This will be a pretty early drinking Bonneau du Martray, but even then, I would probably give this quite a few years more in the cellar before popping the next bottle. Try again in 2018-2020.

Pre-New Year with Robin 2014: Mid- yellow, very intense clear youthful colour. Penetrating aromas of struck match, smoke, crushed rocks, minerals and more. As unfurls, there is white peach and a subtle floral note. Engrossing and complex nose. An incisive acidity balanced with a fabulous depth and breadth of flavour. This is a focused delineated wine, straight as an arrow, with a subtle richness, tantalising definition, and enormous appeal. Along with the minerals, crushed stones there is a lick of vanilla, and bags of complexity. A robust, powerful Corton-Charlemagne, this is a cracker of the wine and my note probably doesn't do it justice! My top white wine of 2014. Outstanding.

Bummer, my last btl and nowhere near its peak at this point. In fact, I found this a bit closed and linear tonight. Showing a lot of citrus, some stoniness but otherwise holding things tight right now. We didn't drink this until late in the dinner after the cork had been pulled at least 2 hours earlier too. Super pretty light pale gold color. Definitely grand cru regal and pure but very tightly wound at this point. A companion 96 Jadot Chevalier Montrachet made it obvious how far this has yet to go. Wish I had more to find out!

Beautiful nose of seawater, flint and spearmint. Great right out of the bottle with a real vibrancy and crisp acidity. This is full and rich but with a firm backbone which leads to an incredibly pure and authentic finish with notes of gunflint, spearmint and minerals. Drinking beautifully with real succulence and a palate-staining intensity. This is a great vintage for this wine and just about as good as Corton Charlemagne gets.

Butter, pear, and citrus on the nose, with poached pears and lemon zest on the palate. I'd swear there's also a hint of petrol. Lovely mouthfeel, and a finish that sails on.

Pure buttered popcorn overwhelms the nose when you first sniff the wine. Fresh lemon, lime and vanilla follow with coaxing. Soft and silky fruits are east to find, but the finish seems short as it ends just when it should get going.

Reticent nose that slowly picked up the pace. White fruit, floral touches, stony to chalky hints and vermouth-like herbs and citrus notes. Dry, mid-weight palate with layered intensity. Macadamia-like refined nuttiness, lemon rind and quite a bit of chalk character. Minerally textures. Young, airy and very pure, but took its time to deliver.

Back vintages from three Burgundy producers with Tryffelsvinet (Grappe, Stockholm): Nose with dominating menthol and mineral notes, yellow fruit in the background, peach, some flowers and aromatic oils; an elegant nose. Medium bodied++, palate with quite a lot of mineral notes, high and good acidity; elegant. Some development, but can take a lot more cellaring. 94 p Compared to the 2011, the 2005 is more firm but still more full-bodied. A really good vintage!

"Fairwell Summer, Welcome Autumn" Wine Cellar & Al Fresco Dinner Party (La Jolla, California): Tasted from a pristinely-cellared bottle provided by our ultra-magnanimous friends, the Campbells. Medium-to-deep gold and immediately expressive of complex aromas, this vibrant beauty is a wine to behold. Stone fruits, wet stones, spiced apple and beeswax jump out of the glass and do not let go. With crisp acidity and well-integrated alcohol (listed as 13.5%), similar flavors are presented in a medium-bodied frame. Layered throughout the middle and long in the finish, this Corton-Charlemagne flirts with perfection. Those fortunate enough to be holding well-cellared bottles will be handsomely rewarded! Drink now-2018.

Great Dinner Wines (Healesville Victoria): Absolutely brillant wine. Up against the mighty Raveneau in this bracket and started off slowly but ended up being my preferred wine by the finish. Great minerality in that trademark Corton Charlemagne way. Not like the prestigious climats further south which have an underlying creaminess and richness. This is pure jagged stone, like crushed rocks or something not lacking in texture and gives a wonderful tight line and extraordinary finish. I was never a huge fan of the Bonneau wines until recently but boy are the recent vintages 05,06,07 fantastic. Doing something right for sure. If you want to see what top shelf White Burgundy is all about this is it. The best part about that is whilst not cheap they are not ridiculously priced. Anyone new and looking to try the best but cant afford Leflaive etc this is the ticket to dip your toe in the water. For the moment anyway.

This is showing beautifully today with coiled intensity and wonderful and authentic CC flavors of smoky limestone and wintergreen. The finish is finely complex with that "water off rocks" feel that I so often find in great CC. Given how "ready for business" this is today and that I recently had to throw out the rest of my '02 because of premox, I see no reason to wait and I'm going to drink the rest of my bottles asap. Really good juice!

This is a fabulous vintage for this wine with no premox whatsoever (encouraging given the '02 opened earlier in the week which was a mess). There is a stinging quality to the wine in a positive way which gives way to sweet white fruits and chalky minerals. The finish is taut but already complex with delicious notes of clove and other spices. Young but still a joy to drink tonight.

Chris's Birthday at Black by Ezard (Sydney, Australia): Tightly wound and closed nose, with some pine needle, musk, lemon and talc aromas. The palate is well balanced, with rich fruit and some driven acidity. Give it some time to come together and I think it would be more impressive, though a bottle in May earlier this year was showing as more open and approachable.

Lunch with Pjaines (28-50, Marylebone, London): I thought this was really excellent, liking it rather more than Pjaines, who shared the bottle with us. It had a beautiful nose, with shades of flinty mineral and seashell playing alongside ripe fruited notes of apples and stone fruit, sweet accents of white flowers and vanilla and then more savoury aromas of smoked almond nuts. This had developed a bit of complexity and was really entrancing. The palate was perhaps just a bit more primary then the nose, but also quite lovely, with ripe, but really pure flavours of apples and a hint of sweet lemons, circling around a core of flinty mineral, creamy vanilla and juicy acidity. This was complete wine. Full, fleshy, intense, but brilliantly balanced all the way into a sappy finish underscored by bright citrus notes and more flinty mineral. With time, nice little tones of almonds and honey emerged to mingle with the fruit on the backpalate. Absolutely beautiful. I must add though that was rather advanced for such a youthful BdM Corton-Charlie, showing slight signs of tiring after half-an-hour in the bottle - I am not sure if it is the storage, the particular bottle or just the general aging curve on the wine. I am sure glad to have a few bottles of this at home - one of them will be popped in the not too distant future to gauge how far the rest should go.

Flatters to deceive a touch. Very impressive on opening - hazelnuts, struck match and minerals but toned down to a whisper rather than a shout. Excellent nuance and balance in the mouth - very serene and discrete - these Grand Cru white burgs can be a bit full throttle for my liking, but this showed good balance with a delicate zest. After 30 minutes the wine just fizzled out a bit and lost definition - could do with a bit more structure for my liking. A good wine but probably not one for the long haul. I'd be tempted to start opening these now if I had a case in the cellar.

Bonneau du Martray Corton Charlemagne Vertical (NYC): Lovely nose, remind me of Leflaive. Smoky wood, light butter. Green fruit. Apple and lemon. Powerful but aerial at the same time with a great acidity. Freaking good wine.

This is a wine of finesse. Understated notes of pear and stony minerals. And no sign of any wood, which I often find in excess in Corton Charlemagne. Thins is fine and long. Intense but not powerful. Elegant.

One of my best Corton Charlie experiences ever. Matray is the the gold standard for CC. In wonderfull condition and drinking great. I'm sure this will add complexity with another few years but I love the freshness now. Impecable balance and elegance.

This had BIG gun flint minerality dominating the nose. Palate was all gun flint and almond paste. Nearly no fruit to speak of. This was not as full in flavor profile as the '01, yet had a creamier almond texture and a very stony texture which lingers on the palate. Jean-Charles Le Bault de la Moriniere felt this was just staring to show as it should.

Golden, straw color. Sweetness, a touch of honeysuckle on the nose. Very complex palate, with fruit and a hint of butterscotch, especially on the finish. Long, pleasant finish. Oily rather than crisp (this is intended as a compliment), leans toward Meursault. Not a knock-your-socks-off Corton-Charlemagne, but very fine, indeed.

Pale lemon. Youthful nose too - intense but not giving much away - lemon, hint of apple, sesame seed. Medium/full bodied on the palate, lemon and sesame seed, crisp, deep and long with notes of apple and spice on the long finish. This has lovely texture and weight and can onmly improve if it remains untainted by pox. Excellent.

The Verticals at La Paulee de San Francisco (Westin St. Francis - San Francisco CA): Subdued aromas of green apple and pear with a good floral contribution. Similarly subdued orchard fruit flavors on palate with a sneaky power that only emerges from middle to end. Great minerality and acidity might dominate today, this is a very cellar-worthy wine.

Another great btl tonight for Nita's B- Day. Took it to the restaurant and it started out too cold but once it hit the ideal temp it was awesome. Light gold and completely fresh. Good thing I took along my Riedel Montrachets! The restaurant glasses were pretty medicore. Showed multiple dimensions of Citrus and tropical butressed by perfect acidity and minerality. Vibrant and mouthcoating. I love great Corton Charlie!

Auction bottle held 2 years. After 2 hours this young Chardonnay really stretches out and starts to run. Reductive aromas give way to warm notes of hazelnut and lemon peel, which just soar on the palate. So very long. Unbuttered toast with a spread of Meyer lemon. Goes on for minutes. If it is untouched by premox, it will be gorgeous in 2018. But certainly rewarding now if given ample time to open.

Rather young and tight showing peachy stone fruit notes with intense minerality, slight gravel and toast notes. Palate- elegant structure with some 'baby fats' for the vintage but not overblown with complex stone fruit notes, lovely intense midpalate minerality coming across with a touch of toasted oak on the long finish. This has a long journey ahead, be patient!

The wine of the night at my Bucks with a very, very stellar line up. I have tasted this wine a few times now and this was showing best. Complex, earth, smoke, mineral and fleshy white stone fruits. The entry is intensely mineral and concentrated with a few extra years in the bottle adding more depth and fill yet still it has terrific line and wonderful, youthful energy and vivacity. Tremendous length and definition. This is a great bottle from a sensational producer.

S FL WS Group Welcomes wine + art (Himmarshee's - Ft. Lauderdale, FL): Light, fairly pale color. On the entry, I got lots of toasted oak and sulfur which I think will benefit from more time in the bottle. Reserved pear fruit, matchstick notes, and a strong minerality component. Medium body and medium to high acidity with a long finish. Score based more on potential as I think this will improve over the next five years.

Brief notes: noticeably better and livelier than the bottle I opened last November. Still tight, but showing lovely tropical-inflected fruit and delicious minerality. Really young. Some youthful oak in evidence, but very deftly balanced. If this doesn't succumb to premox, it will be majestic in 5-10 years.

Very light colour (due to lots of sulphur earlier?) OK nose, but nothing spectacular. If anyhing it started to fade. The taste was better then feared (many bad experiences with this producer during 1997-2004). Quite long actually with good grip. I can't help thinking that this wine will not be long lived.

Dad's birthday dinner @ Alma. This was excellent but slightly disappointing relative to my lofty expectations, perhaps because it is going through a closed phase? Fresh ripe stone fruits, honey, and minerals, with toasty, smoky oak that carries through to the moderately long finish. Medium bodied, classy, and nicely balanced. Not as energetic or harmonious as expected. Look forward to revisiting in a few years.

Bonneau du Martray Visit and Tasting (Pernand-Vergelesses): Tasting at Bonneau du Martray. Nice spice-driven aromatic start. Almost as ripe as the 2006, and while less nuanced now, this seems to have a lot in reserve. Probably better to cellar further.

Terroir-istes International - France, Burgundy, Corton White (Rodwell House): Fabulous nose with clean, bright fruits showing nuts, minerals and crushed rocks. More lifted and expressive than the 2006. A superb palate entry redolent with citrus blossom and lemon balm; mineral-edged acidity giving a tautness, broad palate structure, and power alongside elegance. There is a richness yet also a saline-quarry dust textural feel against its robust acid profile. The wine is more medium-bodied than full and perhaps more ballerina than athletic. It has a glistening sheen that grabs the attention, incredible concentration and a persistent finish. Outstanding wine!

A Weekend of Excess; 7/24/2009-7/25/2009 (Chicago/Northbrook, IL): Was very psyched to try this, as I've always loved his Corton Charlemagnes, but unfortunately this was completely overwhelmed by sulphur. From cask: Pale greenish gold. Nice zingy nose with green apples and lanolin showing, but not the complexity or minerality I expect. The best mouth entry of all these whites – fresh and incisive. Good weight of fruit and oodles of class here. Rather easier and tartier than expected but still great stuff. 4+

Still a bit unresolved as there is still a bit of sulphur on the nose. A big wine with a bit if the house signature style. Long finish with good acidity to keep the wine in balance. I found this both alluring and thought provoking as the immediate absence of mouth searing acid (produced in such abundance today) and reduction let’s the fruit shine. Ripe and nuanced orchard fruit is complimented by well judged acidity and age appropriate notes of marzipan.

Excellent.

But this wet cardboard smell kept creeping back in. I am betting on cork, there is no way that this wine is meant to taste like that. And am completely disappointed, was so looking forward to this one. No rating therefore.
