By the glass from a freshly opened bottle at Maru, London. A pretty surprise as much as to see 6-7 g/l dosage written on the back and albeit no other disgorgement data are given we will forgive them on account of how pretty the wine was. Round and polishe, soft rich feel, well balanced. Good 91

Guter Apero.

Wonderful QPR here for a great grower champagne. Fresh, linear, but enough autolytic complexity to keep things interesting. Acid is in perfect balance. Little not to like in this 100% Chardonnay from a great grand cru site. Planning to buy more from this producer.

Annual Caroling & Chili Party (R&D's): Abundant apple and chalk elements with a subtle toasted bread notes in the background. Fine bead. Flavors of apple and marzipan with a citrus-tinged finish. Excellent. (J&J)

Tuscan WIMPS (La Trompette): Perfumed nose - pine and blossom, something of a good-smelling kitchen cleaner about it- even if that sounds pejorative I thought it was really nice! Lemon and white peach, a toasty edge. Aromatically confident. By comparison the palate was quite polite, missing some zip and drive.

I did not have the opportunity to read the back label for the disgorgement.
Floral and dried fruit nose.
Tracing and precise mouth. The champagne remains expressive despite its straightness, it has a beautiful freshness. Balanced and pleasant, fine effervescence. Aromas of pear that emerge with aeration. Nice chalky finish, on a good length.
Very good.

Excellent quality for an entry-level NV Champagne. Fumy on the nose, with wafts of incense and ozone. Real zip on the palate, which barreled along with mid-palate energy and finished with both finesse and an exhilarating zing. Subsequent sips were slightly less exciting than the first couple, as it settled down, but it remained very tasty.

Flickinger dinner at avec River North (Chicago, IL): Solid, if not totally exciting champagne. Definitely holds its own in the entry-level champagne category, with a pleasant richness to the palate coupled with a good amount of fresh acidity.

Palate: lemon cream, nugat, lightly browned yellow apple; long- finish of pear, chalk; low- sweetness; medium to medium+ body with medium amount of fine, fizzy bubbles; medium to medium- acidity
Overall thoughts: I wish this had a disgorgement date on it because I feel like it seems older than usual and older than the bottle I opened 2 days ago. Really nice rich notes from dosage and/or maillard reaction and I like how the bubbles aren't too strong. The acidity is a bit lacking, not to the point where it's not balanced, but it's lacking energy. Still, great wine.

Nose: yellow apple, fresh yeast, lemony citrus Lively mousse but not over the top Palate: as nose plus pear, vanilla and milk chocolate Had this as an aperitif but it would surely do well with lighter food as well. Not a great champagne but enjoyable and well worth its price.

Deg. May 2021. This is really beautiful, showing a touch of aging but also nice freshness. Notes of ripe apples, some pear, also some flowery, notes, a touch of honey, hazelnuts, some minerality too, orange zest. It‘s medium-full bodied, with medium-high acidity that is nicely buffered by the wealth of fruit, and some really nice, slightly creamy bubbles. Good length. There is a touch of rusticity, but I really like this. Very good QPR, too.

Showing a bit of development especially in how immediately rich and accessible the bright lemon & orange/citrus, slightly overripe apple flavors are. Excellent today and immediately accessible. Disgorgement 03/2015, 2012 vintage base.

Comes to life nicely over the course of 2 hours and warming up, with expressive aromas of stone fruit, lime zest, white flower and a hint of toast. Plush and full, ripe white peach, lemon and honey, a lengthy finish leaving behind toasty broiche flavors. Excellent if not markedly different than more recent bottlings. Disgorgement 03/15, 2012 base vintage.

Great value Blanc de Blancs from a well known grower, coming from renowned Grand Cru of Le Mesnil sur Oger. Pale golden colour. Aroma of apples, yeast, lemon peel, hints of hay and oyster shell. Palate is clean and vinous with low pressure of soft and extra fine mousse, vibrant and zesty acidity with saline touches.

I paired this with some italian seafood stew because I remember the acidity from this one. Minerality also present. This time, there is some medicinal quality, slight bitter aftertaste.

Quince, pear, fresh herbs, and the faintest touch of white bread on the nose. Elegant nose with a nice sense of refinement. A crisp refreshing palate with a savory edge. There’s very little yeast notes and instead there’s green apples giving way to a light frosting element that moves towards the finish — it’s nice and refined and almost subtle but the length is there.
A very good food-friendly champagne.

Bottle at Marea to start the evening. This is a lovely champagne and especially so when you take into account the price. Lighter and very soft. Not a main event, but a wine that settles in comfortably with even some tougher dishes to pair (like a tuna tartare). Almost had a hint of sweet to it to me. I enjoyed.

Very good with grilled salmon and chorizo. There was a little bit of woody / oaky flavor that I initially found a little off, but it worked well with the food we were having as it helped hold up to the chorizo. I have have had about 5 bottles of this from a case, and I think it works best with salty and spicy food rather than on its own or with anything sweet.

Medium lemon color, small effusive bubbles. Nose of honey, white flowers, lemon peel. Brisk acidity with citrus, Granny Smith apple, and honey all coming across on the palate loud and clear. Great wine. Front label code 20100720, July 2020 disgorgement.

Bright acidity, minerality coming through from the first whiff. Lingering finish. Drier than the Lallier brut and a little more complex but not as fun to sip by itself. Same score.

Surprisingly toasty and creamy. The nose is full of ripe exotic fruits such as pineapple, mango, a hint of banana; ripe lemons and tangerines, yellow peaches, apricots; orange blossom and lilies, sweet butter and chantilly, toasted hazelnuts, a hint of caramel, vanilla and brioche, some mushrooms dominate an oxidative finish. The texture is dense, the dosage is not low but I find it pleasant with the lively acidity and the very present chalky minerality. I’ve found it really enjoyable, I would say that it’s a youthful version of their millésimes that I find more opulent, Le Mesnil character is obvious in the wine such, as is the Pierre Moncuit signature. 91pt (Julen)

Such a recognizable style, even in the simpler wines; one truly notices that this is a Pierre Moncuit wine. An exotic feeling on the palate with plenty of yellow/stone fruits: ripe peaches, lemon and lime cordial, apricots, ripe pineapple, and passionfruit; slightly toasty with toasted bread and mixed nuts; wet stones and some minerality; a gently oxidative finish, but I have to identify a strange sulfuric-like note as well (possibly from the vinification in steel). It's a 'simpler' wine than their millésimes, but still more complex than I expected and with a voluptuous texture that we don't always find in NV; youthful with a medium-high acidity, perhaps this isn't a wine for ageing, but it seems like a great way to try Moncuit's wines. 90pt (Samuel)

Disgorgement date unknown (can say that I purchased recently from a shop with high turnover). Very expressive nose of creamy pear. Clean and balanced palate, with a just a touch of bitterness on the finish. Light in the minerality department given its pedigree, but good nonetheless.

Very pretty looking wine. Nose had notes of slate, apricot, and white peaches, some sweetness there for sure. Tasting this and the bubbles are very fine, this is drinking very well, not too sweet, not bitter at all, hitting the sweet spot all around.

Stylistically middle of the road. It doesn't excel at anything, but it's well-rounded and hits all the right notes for an NV champagne. I would not have guessed Blanc de Blanc. This is maybe a bit overpriced at $34.

With the exception of NV Pol Roger Réserve Brut my favourite champagne that evening. Expressive and elegant on the nose - generous fruit, yeasty notes, almost floral. On the palate fine beads, well integrated acidity, precise and vibrant, but not lean. Very well balanced and quite long. 90-92

Champange Pierre Moncuit Visit with Vintage '59 (Les Mesnil-sur-Oger): Brief tasting note, winery visit. More breadth (badum-chick!) to the nose, leaner with higher acidity and a drier finish, despite same dosage (7gr) as Hugues de Coulmet of same vintage. Classic citrus and orchard fruit flavors, the largest production wine of the house, a nice step up.

Holiday fizz (Chicago, IL): Despite the leaner wine making here, there's some lovely creaminess from ripe chardonnay on the nose and palate here. This also has a fairly intense biscuity/autolytic character that's quite nice. The sweetness on the palate seems to indicate a slightly heavier dosage, but I actually quite enjoy it.

half bottle, no disgorgement date. Haven't had too many champagnes and this is my first Blanc de Blancs and Côte des Blancs bottle. Was expecting elegance and focus, but this is pretty round and quite developed, and dosage a little high for my taste. Caramel, truffle, nuts, a bit weighty. Good complexity but hoped for more focus and maybe also length. 90

Off the by the glass list at Vaucluse on Thanksgiving. This was a nice festive start to the meal. Nothing particularly stood out on it. It was moderate bubbles and a hint of toast but mostly more in the clean, apple form. Went nicely with a tuna appetizer.
Decent but not great Blanc de Blancs. Citric, mineral, precise nose with a touch of toasty autolysis. Similar on palate. Seemingly lower dosage. Acceptable weight and power. Lemons, pears, yellow and green apples, chalk and wet limestone with a little almond croissant. A touch of honey sweetness, not suggested by the bouquet. However, it finishes quite dry and stony.

Bel finale sui toni tostati

2015 New York Wine Experience Trip; 10/19/2015-10/27/2015 (New York City, NY): From a half-bottle which was disgorged in February of 2014, this pale yellow blanc de blancs sports a brisk tiny bead. Citrus peel, gala apple, saline, bread dough and honeysuckle reside on a light-bodied, crisply acidic frame. There is good persistence in the middle and the medium-to-long finish is mouthwatering. Drink now-2017.

About 1.5 years since my last bottle. Another of a stash of NVs that I put away a few years ago. This is firing. Clear Blanc de Blancs palate at first, slight hint of candied ginger, then a bit of grains come out, then turns clear again with bright, clear citrus fruit. Additional complexities of creme soda and fennel. This is chiseled and precise. Fresh and bright. Lots of nuance. Lots of energy. Great tonight.

Shared with pat at Selkirk Manor as part of a new year's day brunch celebration. Paired with baked salmon, smoked muscles and caviar. I originally purchased this based upon a New York Times recommendation and Shopper's Vineyard sale. The wine continues to show in accordance with reviews. But also seems to have put on some weight in the past two years, making it much more enjoyable. Tiny bubbles last throughout serving period. Clean and fresh. although it is still missing the yeastiness which i tend to favor, i am pleased that it is developing increasing complexity with some minerality added to very pleasant fruit component. look forward to seeing how it does when we have another bottle to celebrate new year's 2016.

Really very nice. Clear and white fruits, citrus, slightly bitter grapefruit pith and very light yeast notes, along with strong mineral notes, almost like a Chablis in Champagne form. The sides here also remind me of White Burgundy, as there is a Puligny-like softeness, perhaps because this bottle has been resting in the cellar for a few years. Good purity and poise. Drank this before and after the Phish concert at MSG.

A Champagne tasting (and a Sherry) (My Home): Light gold in color. The nose has a Vernor's soda pop aroma (a bit like ginger ale). Nyetimber Vertical + some Unexpected Gems (Park Palace, Grand Park Hotel): A nice drink. This was so very different from the English sparkling wines that no one had any hesitation picking it out as the ringer. To Nyetimber's credit though, this was not qualitatively better than many of its English cousins in the night. This had a far creamier nose, with biscuit and yeast alongside rather neutral white fruit aromas and sweeter lemons with a hint of lime zest. The palate had the most noticeable mousse of all the sparkling wines - round, frothy, rather creamily textured, it formed a nice backdrop for fleshy red apple flavours, some kumquats and a distinct note of Khong Guan brand lemon-cream biscuits on the midpalate. It was well-integrated, had good depth and nice, soft acidity – a very nicely drinkable Champagne. Nice long finish too, with fleshy lemony fruit and green apples lined with a little mineral and spice. It may not be the longest aging wine, but it was certainly very friendly and enjoyable. A good NV Bdb.

No formal notes. A more recent disgorgement than the last bottle I had (though it still had a year of post-disgorgement age). Similar to my previous note, but a bit less mineral edge and a bit more yeasty/fruity generosity. Still a lean, energetic Champagne, but a little more meat on its bones than my last bottle.

Nose: Pretty tight immediately after opening, with some green apple and a little bit of chalk and biscuit dough. As it begins to warm up, the biscuit dough gets a bit yeastier/funkier, the fruit becomes more exotic, and fresh, spring-y floral notes emerge.
Mouthfeel: Energetic and assertive with a lively, slightly course mousse.
Palate: Very tart and steely, with underripe green apple and lemon juice leading the way. Beneath the fruit is a very firm chalk/wet rock minerality but not much else. The finish is of medium length and is a return to the fruit with a touch of yeast.
Nothing overwhelming, but a perfectly good, racy blanc de blancs. Not complex, but well balanced, authentic, and good QPR (by Champagne standards). Definitely improves as the bottle empties, so try not to gulp it down too quickly. I wish I knew the base vintage and the disgorgement date, but none of this is provided. There is a lot code (L3079 03), but I don't know how to decipher it. The electric-blue wire used for the cage is an interesting packaging touch.

100% Vintage 2009, although labeled as NV. Very nice, especially considering the price (20€ at the domaine). I think user JVG nailed in in his note. This may not be the most showy Blanc de Blancs but this is certainly very authentic, beautiful and minerally racy. Pure-Mesnil chalk in the bottle. Not for the fans of soft, oxidative and bready champagnes(sometimes I enjoy those as well), but for those who appreciate the slightly austere and linear mineral expression of what is almost unmistakably from Cote de Blancs, I suggest trying. However, I must note that 2009 was a warm vintage and I have no idea how this wine manages in colder ones.

The first bottle I had of this was just beautiful and mature, but not this one. Young, undeveloped, and simple. Good acidity, but nothing special. This is why disgorgement dates are so important, as I would swear that the first bottle had much more age than the second.

Light gold-yellow. Nose is fairly reticent. Pear and lemon, yeast, minerals. A touch of cream or brioche behind, but not much. Still young and somewhat tight on the palate, lacking somewhat in complexity and character for me. Strong and lively bubbles - fairly fine but a little harsh and pushy. Better when trilled - shows some pear and winey aspects, a bit of sweet cream and minerals. Opens up a little with time - somewhat sweeter with more forward fruit and butter biscuit. Finish is pretty racy with lots of minerals, some soft lemon, and a solid amount of yeast. A solid base-level Champagne at around $35. Still doesn't wow me, but it has some admirable qualities. Nose - 4.5/6, Palate - 5/6, Finish - 4.5/6, Je Ne Sais Quoi - 1/2 = 15/20.

The nose is at once sweet and savory, showing elements of rich apple pie, baking spice, sweet custard, graham cracker, and bitter cocoa. The palate provides a bit more focus with tart mixed orchard fruits linear caramelized pineapple. Brown spice and a slate minerality arise on the mid-palate, later melding with a long finish of lemon/lime, tart cranberry, lavender, and dried green herbs. This is full bodied but focused and evolved nicely over several hours. R&M 89

Red Burgundy vs. Cold Climate Pinot tasting (Colicchio & Sons, New York, NY): Bought off the list at Colicchio & Sons. With time, the nose showed lots of fruit - tropical aspects - banana, with a solid backbone of yeast and bread. Very juicy on the palate, and when first drank it had that cocoa and malt ball creaminess I love, but the finish seemed harsh to me - couldn't give this the attention to get a full note. Nose - 5/6, Palate - 4.5/6, Finish - 3.5/6, Je Ne Sais Quoi - 0.5/2 = 13.5/20.

Another great showing. The nose is inviting, with flowers and light yeast. Carries over to the palate, showing light yeast, fresh bread, flowers, pear fruit, great acidity and definition. Very Blanc de Blanc in its delivery of clear and white fruit notes, and after a few hours of air, the palate shows some candy notes, again very inviting. This Moncuit is more interesting than other Blanc de Blancs we've been opening lately, showing more dimensions.

Medium weight blanc-de-blanc. Nose was bright with lemon and bread and yeast. Palate mellowed into a mineral-laden rich lemon, less sharp with time in the glass, and that light, dry bread flavor. It kept improving til gone and then it was missed.

No indication of vintage though I know Moncuit is always single vintage. Bright and vigorous. Quite fresh, clean and cut with hints of oak derived richness and autolytics. Lovely balance, moderate dosage, decent complexity. Citrus pith, mineral, smoke, wet stone, white raspberries, sourdough brioche, vanilla bean and dried sweet grass. Some juicy acidity throughout and a crab apple finish. Great value, somewhat stylized, definitely some precise and delicious bubbles.

This is a very solid blanc de blanc given a price in the low $30 range. It is very light, crisp, and has very nice green apple flavors. It is certainly not the most complex champagne, but is very satisfying all the same and is one of those champagne's that would likely be universally liked by non-champagne drinkers. Half bottle bought directly from Nicole Moncuit at the domaine. Was told this one was made of 2007 fruit (but impossible to tell from label apparently), which was seen as a difficult year by Mme Moncuit. Nose begins muted but improves with air to show green appley fruit with bready notes emerging. Palate is light and fresh with medium refreshing finish. Perfect aperitif style. Can benefit from further keeping.

A somewhat muted champagne with hints of dough and biscuit, some citrus notes in the background as well as a bit of apple and pear. We were to busy slurping this down for it to have time to evolve (see previous note of 11/13).

AWG Rijstaffel: I'm really pleased with this Champagne. I'm scoring on high end of CT range, but this just really seems to hit my sweet spot I guess. Tiny bubbles exploding into a vigorous mousse. Apples, yeasty rolls, quince, touch of lime, and a great minerally core that pulls it together. Pretty dry. Long, fine finish. Delightful and delicious.
I had this a few weeks ago at a sparkling event where I tasted about 60 premium and value sparklers (excluding luxury level), and this was my favorite in direct comparison so I bought a half dozen. On the first full bottle I am more than happy with that purchase. Served as a reception wine for an event with some wine geek friends.

A medium colored champagne. Very dry with a lot of yeast/dough on the initial palate. Within 30 minutes the bottle blossomed into a more full-bodied, smooth almost rich champagne. Delicious!

Highly enjoyable, with a nice delicate balance of lemon zest and bright rasberry driven fruit. Reminds me of Taittinger La Francaise. Also has a finish of biscuit and yeast. Pleasant stuff.

A great crowd - pleasing champagne, served during our classical/jazz party. Actually, half of the bottle was left in the fridge and it was such a great wine 24 hours later. Very, very smooth and fruity chardonnay fruit. Cheers!

Fine bubbles.Biscuity and nutty nose, some vanilla. On the palate a little citrus with the rich bready biscuity tastes. Good acidity, perhaps a little too much on the finish. Enjoyable, comfort champagne.

Solid performer. This bottle a bit flabbier than past ones, but still good mousse, pleasant not overboard flavors, and decent finish. Past magnums had a bit of "le Mesnil" type chalkiness which I did not find in this one.

This is a thoroughly pedestrian champagne. Nutty caramel on the nose with the attendant yeastiness. I've had many champagnes/sparklers in the $15 price range that compare favorably with this. Disappointing.

Its no doubt Champagne as it has a bit of class to it, but its not that far ahead really. Nice mouse (fine bubbles) and some toastiness. Other than that its a pretty straitfoward inoffensive sparkler. not a value.

I've aged this bottle myself for at least a year and I belive it helps. It seems to have just a bit more depth and complexity although still a lightweight. You could do a whole lot worse than this for a house champagne for $30.

Rich and bold aroma of lemon bar and baked bread with a leesy character in the background. On the palate, sharp flavors of mineral oyster shell, graphite, and lemon zest, lemongrass, and multi-vitamin. Full in the mouth. A masculine champagne. 89-90 points.

Extremely good champagne. Fine bubbles and interesting color reflexes. Good nose with almonds, toasted bread with butter, a bit of white fruit like apple and some honey. Mouth very fresh and clean, good acidity and a bit "sweet" at the end from the chardonnay.

Shared with colleagues at the end of a restaurant meal; not properly chilled, served in wine glasses. The quality was apparent despite the circumstances. The dominant impression for me was a high linear acidity, which cries out for a couple of years' bottle-age, after which I would imagine it being very good indeed. Several others commented positively. Excellent value for money, given the provenance (grand cru from such a prestigious chardonnay village). I will buy again. [The Wine Library, £20.99]

Bass River. Much more ordinary than I'm used to from Moncuit. Clean, good acidity, some depth. Actually better the next morning before brunch (OK, we're decadent), with more complexity to nose, and more depth of flavor. Next bottle will rest a couple of years.

Very golden for a Bland de Blancs. Nose of French bread , dough, saline, slate minerals, lemon cake and lemon oil. Very flabby and weighty on the palate to start. After about 20 minutes it begins to really liven up with tart citrus acidity lifting the weight. The citrus on the finish grows when you think it would be done. The palate also shows notes of saline crackers, pears, yellow apples with a steak of creme brulee that comes in conjunction with some creaminess that let's on as the chill lets off. I prefer more richness of pinot in my Champagne usually but this was very good especially for the money. Would work well with food also.

This has become our `house' Champagne. Brought to Marche Moderne for Lorena's birthday. Had with appetizers (salad of avocado, hearts of palm, cheese, two types of tomatoes and squares of ham, topped with microgreens; and langostines with basil emulsion and green and yellow beans..both were amazing) and oysters before dinner. Hints of bread and yeast.... and refreshing to drink. Makes you happy.

This light to middle weight champagne seems to be reliable and consistently enjoyable without requiring too much attention. Tastes like what it is - a frothy chardonnay with easy flavors of chalk, vanilla and citrus. Very dry but not painfully acidic, it's a good starter champagne with real character and a good introduction to small grower fizz.

Eye: Pale straw. Vibrant rapid small bubbles.
Nose: Really briochey. Just faintly autolytic. Lemon, green apple, sweet toasted nuts. Pecan praline.
Palate: Lightly tart; the wine shows it’s dosage. The palate is much the same as the nose. Nice and fizzy on the palate. Moderate cassis character.
Finish: Sweet brioche. Light lingering tartness and nuttiness.
Overall: I can’t say I’m overly impressed by the champagne; but it did make some very nice French 75s.

Method: pop and pour; Glasvin Champagne glass
Look: medium straw; many small, vibrant bubbles
Nose: buttermilk biscuit, nugat, ripe pear, light almond

Deg.

This also has a fairly intense biscuity/autolytic character that's quite nice. The sweetness on the palate seems to indicate a slightly heavier dosage, but I actually quite enjoy it.

Citrus peel, gala apple, saline, bread dough and honeysuckle reside on a light-bodied, crisply acidic frame. There is good persistence in the middle and the medium-to-long finish is mouthwatering.

Color: Pale straw.

Shared with pat at Selkirk Manor for new year's eve. Jumped on this as per New York Times recommendation and Shopper's Vineyard sale. The wine presents in accordance with reviews. It was very enjoyable with slipper tails. Tiny bubbles last throughout serving period. Clean and fresh. All that having been said, I have to say this is not my favorite style. I prefer a little more yeastiness. There are others at this price point that I enjoy more.

You almost get a sense that it is thirst quenching.
