  • Opulent, dense and complex. Deep matured black berries, chocolate, roast aromas, leather, liquorice, herbs, framed by noble cask. Long, fresh, phenolic finish. Very young, requiring another 5-10 years to reach optimum.

  • First La Mouline; quite good but young and with plenty of upside; the nose is very classic syrah with blackberry, blueberry, smoke, pancetta, olive, violet, a hint of oak but honestly less than I expected. The palate is dense, but quite nicely balanced and really lovely. Great depth, good balance. Drinkable now for sure, but with upside in the next 10 years.

  • Superb nose of cepes de Bordeaux rotis, BBQ Angus beef, lard fume… Lighter in style as this is cote blonde, perfectly mature, very delicious!!

  • La Fleur de Pave (La Fleur de Pave , Paris): This jumped out of the list at La Fleur de Pave, Paris. Having tried the arbitrage of a price/quality you get sibling of this the Ch Ampuis 2012 and consistently love it ( Papies consistently 92-93) this was an easy choice.
Decanted for a good 30 minutes , helpful for sure and can handle a lot more.
A beautiful wine and albeit at the start of its drinking window it is still ever so elegant and beautiful wine. Good rich fruit but in balance, soft spice , soft smoky edge . So good and so classy. Beautiful wine and we bought 6 bottles just while at the dinner table. This says it all. 94 for now but with a lot more potential for the future and longevity.

  • Note from memory, drank on the 4th of July over 5 hours with beef tips. Overall this was super fun. Was very enjoyable after opening but at about 2 hours the nose became much more pronounced, almost comical in terms of how strong it was. The wine itself was youthful with berries and mineral. Meat and metallic flavors we're notably absent. Certainly well into the outstanding range but the Vignes l'Hospice Saint Joseph is right there with it. Cheers
