  • I had a great dinner with 4 ,
First smell in the nose was really red fruit , like cherry and "framboise" and cassis , maybe a little to sweat , after 15min also came tabac, leather , first that came up in the mouth, was again the fruit, but what a balance , not yet 100% ( maybe to sweat) but already the finesse and perfect texture in the mouth , it was like silk, pffff what a great wine, after 1/2 hours the power in the nose was still present , so long , it could wait maybe another 5 years to be at is top , the sweat will ( hopefully ) go away , just a great bottle

  • Salon Focofi Paris walkabout and dinner, so no detailed tasting notes. the Guigal Lala trio showed well in the 2016 vintage. The wines were balanced and composed, nothing over the top or too ripe/oaky. As always, La Landonne (97pt) the densest with lots of smoke, La Turque (96pt) in the middle showing quite closed and La Mouline (97pt) a touch lighter with elegant floral nose. Any of these I would not drink before 2035.

  • Impressive nose and palate, yet still very tight and have oaky shell. Complex nose - you can find anything you want starting from strawberry and cherry up to cassis and blackberry. Cedar, vanilla, purple flowers, bacon fat and smoke. Ultra-fine yet very dense tannins. Wonderful acidity (I love 2016 in Cote-Rotie), long lingering finish with purple flowers, licorice and pepper. Would wait for at least another 10-15 years for its early peak.

  • Guigal's wines from the Côte-Rôtie with Philippe Guigal (Zoom): Wine 4 of 6. A blend of 89% Syrah and 11% Viognier. Aged in new oak casks for 40 months. 13.5% ABV. Floral notes, violet, dark and red fruit, dark cherry, blackberry, black raspberry, coffee, chocolate, spices, and vanilla, with good acidity, ripe, round tannin, and superb length. Lingers for quite some time. The finish is oak-driven, but the oak is in balance with the generous fruit. Darker than the La Turque. Very young, but very intriguing already. That said, the 2016 La Mouline is outshone by the 2016 La Turque and La Landonne today. 94(+) for now.
