What an over-performer. A Mesnil wine at very reasonable pricing. Amazing QPR and a perfect champagne cellar defender. Citrus and brioche on the nose, bright flavors and perfect amount of bubbles on the palate. Great stuff.

I've had a couple of these recently. They have a rich and complex flavor, with a touch of sweetness that I appreciate (as compared to the Brut Natures that are so popular these days). Although it's an NV, it has as much, if not more, depth than some of the vintage Champagnes I've had. For the price, it's tough to beat.

A somewhat better than mediocre showing which means in a very casual setting it was just perfect. For the modest price, I'll look for these in future visits to various wine shops.

I enjoy this champagne on a night when I’m in the mood for bubbles. It has good structure and notes of green apple. It’s crisp and fresh. I think it’s a great QPR.

Green apple, lemon, poached pear, nectarine, with pronounced autolytic notes including crusty sourdough bread, and yogurt. M+ acid is slightly richer and fuller for a blanc de blanc. M+ intensity. M+ finish. Very good. Fit for its purpose at the price. Good QPR.

Well, this appears to have become my regular birthday wine. Getting lovelier, frankly. Or perhaps I have been drinking inferior champagnes lately. Granny Smith and yeast right there, well balanced. Me likey.

Really well balanced and delicious to drink with a rich vibe anchored in excellent minerality and terrific zip. Everything here says champagne. A very succulent and juicy finish full of lemony yeast. Punches above the price point. Recommended

Tasted from a bottle with the lot identifier of "L119.22.278.1B," this Champagne has a lively bead but the flavors are muted and there are signs of premature oxidation. Although I cannot be sure that this is the result of a bad bottle and not a bad lot, I suspect that the former is true (based upon my previous good experience with multiple lots of this quality nonvintage sparkler).

Straight out of the gate with a lovely blanched almond aroma, alongside shortcrust pastry and white summer flowers. A lovely delineated nose. Toasted chopped nuts, minerality, and mouth puckering acidity on the palette. This bottle of blanc de blancs seems much more evolved than the brut from the same vintage that I had in the summer.

This sparkling wine is white gold in the glass with a mix of fine and course bubbles in the bead. Aromas are of green apple, ripe pear, warm biscuit and wet gravel. Flavors are true to the aromas, and all are held firmly in place with angular acidity.
The briny taste and crunchy texture of the fried cod fish dance well with the acidity and effervescence of the wine.
This wine and food pairing is a kaleidoscope — a swirling and tumbling mix of colors and shapes that are always in motion, but nonetheless harmonize.

Im not a fan. Citrus, high acid, typical champagne in my experience. First sip was strong lemon hit followed up with a taste of peach and bread. Maybe with the right seafood if someone else bought it.

Aromas of mineral, toast, shortbread and hint on citrus. Flavors of toast, almond, slate, mineral and citrus. Ends with a long mineral driven finish of 20 seconds. Consistently a solid champagne for the money.

Mid gold, vigorous bead. Quite rich aroma, creamy and a touch aged, almost mushroom-coffee. Good concentrated taste, quite sweet, still brightly youthful; lime and pear, a bit floral. Nice to see ten year old vintage bdb grand cru for such a reasonable price. This will probably age for another ten years or more. The next day, much the same, maybe even richer. [Composite cork + cage; % abv; Waitrose, reduced to clear from £39.99 to £33.49].

For some reason I was expecting this to be tightly wound and maybe even a little too young. In fact it seems to be at the peak of its powers with lovely autolytic notes and a gentle bubble to break into the bready white currant and peach flavours. Delicious and for me at its peak now.

Frenchies at Young Joni: Light gold color. Drank a glass over 45 minutes. Rather robust bubbles, but that didn't portray any negativity, in fact this might have been the best bottle of Le Mesnil that i can recall having. Doughy nose with apple and river rock. The palate comes off crisp and clean with ripe red apple, sweet cream pastry, and the requisite chalk notes that are resolute and bright carrying this on the finish.

DG date unknown, searched the bottle but no info to be found.
Color: light. Deep and “vinuous” on the palate. Remarkably concentrated - baked apple, caramel flan. Bubbles were fine though quite sparse. Hard to give a straight rating as I’m wondering if we stumbled into an older NV that’s been sitting around a bit? Sure feels that way, but I’ve never had CLM before so maybe that’s just their style. Kind of a cool surprise, really delicious. Great pairing with grilled burgers & dogs.

Not as great as I once remembered it. Coarse bead, green apple and bran apple tones, decent minerality but this has not developed as well as I might have hoped.

Open that bottle - Jason chooses 2012 Chateau La Violette: This is quickly becoming one of my favorite NV champagnes. From the beginning, the nose is toasty. There is yeast and lemon. This champagne is big and bold, and yet the chardonnay seems to keep it in check. This champagne took on weight and became richer with air exposure, and warming up. I have none and should buy some.

Open THAT Bottle - Not That One...THAT One! (Dan's House): Similar to previous tastings...lots of brioche, tart apple, oyster shell and chalk. A very nice and refreshing Champagne. Great qpr, and would serve as an excellent palate cleanser/refresher, as well as a very good starter wine. Solid 91.

Fizz tasting (Clara's Barn): (Tasted Blind): Pale straw colour, very fine mousse with toasted brioche, yeast extract, peach and pastry. Possibly a little more age or time on lees. With plenty of grip and focus, the wine is an upright feel with a savoury and creamy overlay and clear time spent on lees. Relatively long, the wine closes with nougat, toast and a hint of nut. Delicious. 90+ 100% Chardonnay

Cork stamped 1021 but no idea if that's the disgorgement date. No dosage info beyond "Brut". No info on base year etc.
The nose is initially very buttery, almost sweet. With air some citric notes appear also. On the palate quite rich (notes of green apple, unripe white stone fruit and hints of brioche), but with an acidic bite that develops with air and against food. The finish is moderately long crisp and staying just on the right side of bitter.
Overall I prefer this with a little air, but without food (a simple poké bowl seemed to overwhelm it). At the ~US$37 that I paid this is certainly something that I will pick up a bottle of from time to time.

DG 10/21 Pnp; nose is rich with coconut, whipped cream, Jordan almonds. Sweet but not cloying. Palate is definitely more zesty than the nose, with limestone, lemon, ripe pear, full body, not particularly complex but it has good acidity (not searing like some BdBs can be). My only complaint is the finish is a bit short. Overall though for $40 (especially these days) this is pretty bangin’ value.

This bottling has some Met on the nose, unfortunately. It’s gone on the palate though, which has ripe apple and nice texture. Overall nice but it’s a real bummer about the Met. Let’s see if it goes up or down with time.

From a recently purchased bottle with a lot identifier of "LF119213441B" and a cork label of "1221", this sparkling Chardonnay was sampled over a two-hour period. Light yellow and with a very brisk, tiny bead, it flaunts an intense aromatic profile of citrus, green apples, peaches, ginger and toasted bread. Light-to-medium-bodied and quite vibrant, it delivers flavors mirroring the nose, adding subtle notes of marzipan and cardamom. The creamy-appearing mousse belies its tactile energy, which is persistent throughout the lengthy finish. This is a stellar Grand Cru Blanc de Blancs. Bottles from this particular lot should be a hit throughout this holiday season and 3-4 years hereafter. It can be served with just about anything, but Osetra caviar is the match made in Heaven. Drink now-2026.

This was my last bottle from a 6 pack purchased in late 2018. This champagne is solidly in my wheelhouse. I felt that these had a little too much acid when they were first purchased. With time, the acid faded and toast/oak came out. This last bottle was the toastiest yet, and I wish it had more acid. It was interesting to see that progression over 4 years.

Playing Hooky 2.0 Lunch (The Kenwood, Mpls, MN): Light gold color. Drank a glass plus over 45 minutes. This showed well today, very classical. Pear on the nose, spices, chalk and dough. The palate is more apple and apple peel, spiced, moderate chalky minerality, and then there's a vein somewhere between a panna cotta and custard that that gives this more texture and brightness. Very good 91+pts.

Bought from Mondo Vino. Which usually has a premium for their items. This wine and subsequent Vineyard obviously has a certain pedigree. Let's see how it does.
Color. Yellow with a tinge of gold. Suggesting age of cuvee.
Palate. Super creamy. It certainly means acidity, but the mouthfeel is decidedly creamy. Malolactic conversion? Fruit flavors of lemon, green banana, and green apple skin.
It's a delicious wine. At $55 it delivers what I want. To get a higher score the finish needs to lengthen and the flavors need to be a little more detailed. There could be more fruit and components to the flavor as well.

During a structured blind tasting. Very foamy, too foamy for me, may be needs time. Behind that the aromas a actually ok. Yeasty, bready, light citrus, an elegant blanc de blanc. Mineralic and linear. It looks like that this NV needs cellaring.

This wine is approaching "house" territory. It has such character at this level. Medium bead with seashell minerals, lots of bread dough, and green apple skin with some pithy lemon. It has strong legs to stand on and would be ideal for a restaurant BTG program, or in my case, a bottle ready to pop any time.

Le Mesnil vs Pierre Legras. Tasted these side by side, to see which can become my everyday bubbly. Both have similar price point. Both very similar, although Le Mesnil seems to have slightly less acidity and slightly fuller taste now. Legras, however seems to be the one to cellar, as it should move from 90-91 today to 91-92 in 3-4 years and achieve compatibility with good €50 + champaign

Bulles moyennes, tres briochés, belle acidité, frais. Trop brioché pour moi. C’est bon pour 1 coupe, mais devient saturant sur une bouteille à deux... S’il rectifiait le dosage à la baisse, ce pourrait être fort bon!

The higher dosage seemed a bit less noticeable this time around. Still a bit round for my taste, but the autolytic character showed through a bit more than on my last attempt. Hold for some time to see if the sweetness continues to integrate. I am still really hoping they drop the dosage back to former levels (or lower) going forward and will probably not buy this again until I confirm that they have done so. This has been a consistently excellent value and I fail to see the logic in more dosage for this wine. Maybe it's just a vintage correction for some off years, I don't really know.
Spicy and grippy on the nose with minerals and white lemons and chalk. Similar on the palate with nice sweet fruit. Nose - 5/6, Palate - 5/6, Finish - 4.5/6, Je ne Sais Quoi - 1/2 = 15.5/20.

Pale gold, a touch deeper than expected for the age. Lovely broad aroma, much more mature than it ought to be, with coffee, nuts, mushroom, and pear. Chalky, sweet palate, more of that aged character. Much lower acidity than I was expecting, too, but it's not unbalanced and there's a core of bright fruit. A touch of herbal bitterness on the finish which mostly dissipates. I'm not sure if this is a representative bottle, maybe it was stored poorly, as it's ready to drink and won't benefit from further ageing. Reminds me of the '95 Blanc des Millénaires I had a couple of years ago. Lucky I like older champagne! Great value at this price, naturally. [Composite cork + cage; 12.5% abv; Amazon, £36.03].

Always a very safe set of bubbles. These are great for the price point. A bit of the brioche and the buttered popcorn and enough bubbles to make neither of those taste too intense or heavy. Will continue to buy as more of an every day champagne style.

N: YEASTY, poss a bit of bread dough?

From magnum. Disgorgement date unknown but this certainly had some bottle age. Golden/yellow in colour, yeasty, nutty, yellow fruit. Generous on the palate with good acidity and lift. A bit broad and flat at times. Good length. 89-91

Anyone that knows wine knows Le Mesnil-sur-Oger is the finest village for Chardonnay in all of Champagne. This BdB articulates its chalk slope terroir and Grand Cru designation at a fraction of the cost of the big Champagne houses. The bouquet resonates with brioche, lemons, yellow apples, and mushrooms on a bed of creamy lees. The palate follows suit, where bottle age complexity has softened the champagne, providing a ripe, creamy, caramel-like layer of lacy intensity. It’s poised and structured, vinous and textured, with plenty of mineral-inflected precision, vibrant acidity, and a kiss of salinity. It finishes crisp, full, and classy. 91+

A decent yeasty style on the front-end attack, with bread dough, white melon, pie crust, and lemon seed. Skirts the mid-palate a little high and linear, finishing nearly opposite of how it started, with a somewhat pithy and biting tail. Very little fruit on the mid and back ends. Overall, depth and flavor expansion suffered a bit here. Otherwise a refreshing Champagne, but nothing that evokes any real sense of excitement. My girl liked this better than I did, citing the flavorful bready profile and refreshing zing made up for the lack of profundity.

With a few years in cellar: full straw color and very rigorous bead (almost sudsy); quite clean and minerally with faint hints of ginger; firm, ripe and mature with hints of mushroom on palate backed up with a long, citric, "lemon creme" finish. Best of several bottles I've had of this.

excellent I like Sleepyhaus’s “cut and precision “ comment. To me the mouse is not fine but very pleasantly effervescent snd the most accurate description of the fruit is green apple and citrus

This remains one of my favorite inexpensive (relatively of course) NV Champagnes. For a rich and toasty Champagne but with cut and precision too, this is a great NV. A taste of Mesnil style for an affordable price.

I’m scoring this based on QPR. Think this is $35’ish/bottle? Astounded. It’s got ripe and crisp apple notes, but also more of the toasted brioche, hazelnut and similar toffee notes to what I get with Roederer’s L’ermitage. Simply more chalk and limestone (which makes sense since this is BdB). Not oxidative nor reductive. A happy middle ground with a fantastic price.

I'm no judge of Champagne, but I enjoyed this a lot. Nice balance with a hint of sweetness (not sugary, though) that made it very round. Really fun and pleasant to drink. How do you score that?

Champagne & Sparkling Tasting (San Diego Wine Co.): - Blanc de Blancs (100% Chardonnay) Grand Cru - Harvest 2014 with 90%, 5% harvest 2013 and 5% harvest 2010 - Bottling: April 2015, minimum 3 years of aging in cellar - Disgorging in 2018 as BRUT ( sugar dosage 9 g/l)
N: Yeasty, poss with minerals & apples WAY underneath?
P: LM, poss Med, body; NICE, tight, yeasty frt met by DELICIOUSLY crisp acidity which has a LEAN, *focused*, quite long finish which I can see as being a SUPERB food accompaniment. For now & __(?), + may well improve with cellaring through '19. My EXC, but HAVE to be a fan of acidity. [This vendor's $38.99 puts it in the very bottom of wine-searcher's top quartile.]

Hennepin Lake Tasting: A small tasting pour. This NV is cut from the same cloth as their vintage champagne, it is just dialed down in flavor profile. There is bold toast and yeast that gets whisked away with minerality and lemon oil.

Mercy, this was really good. Lots of mineral drive and depth with that almost krug-like sun-dried raisin note that I sometimes get. Exceedingly good for the price, and stands up tall with all the major NV house cuvees until about bollinger or pol roger.
Pale straw color. Low intensity aromatics, slightly reductive, very faint autolysis - light brioche. Some attractive underripe green Granny Smith apple. 11g dosage - pretty sweet. No fruit ripeness. High acid - awkward and malic-dominant at the finish. Low autolytic impact. Short finish. Chardonnay (more because it seems characterless and lower-priced than any real fruit traits). 12 months on lees. $40 NV from a big house. Reductive style.
Actually: Mesnil Brut NV $45 Blanc de Blanc 9g dosage - a bit lower than I thought but still at the high end. 2.5 yrs on lees - I'm surprised - I didn't pick it up.

(https://vinquebec.com/node/14944)

Feb 2017 disg’t. Notes after letting the bottle breathe for an hour. Light straw color with a broad, vibrant, persistent mousse. Strong nose of the requisite yeast and lemony Chardonnay character with a dash of butter added on the palate. I’m very happy with the acidity and dryness level, along with the slight dosage to sweeten the pot. No mind-blower, but very solid. 5+12+16+8= 91

No. While I like the steely minerality, the overall impression is like mulled cider. I've had a few bottles over the course of the last couple of years and it's gross, bordering on the undrinkable. Just about anything in this price range is better.

5/18: Hard to fault this, everything's here. Yeast, acidity, minerality, oxidative notes, finesse, depth. And seamless it's hard to tell where one starts and ends. Maybe could use more flesh and punch but as a NV Blanc de Blancs you'd be hard pressed to find a better bottle for 40 dollars. 91-92
2/19: beautiful acidity. Almost weightless but so complete and confidant. Exemplary Champagne. 91-92

A little too sweet and apple juice like this initially. After 20 minutes it fattened up displaying toast and mustiness. Still retains a bit to much sweetness/honey apple making me question what’s changed here.

Looking back at 10 years of notes on this NV, they are amazingly consistent (as are my many encounters with it). Always seems to be "in a nice spot' with a nice contrast of youthful qualities yet showing some touches of oxidative maturity. Great value tops it off!

Light gold color. Drank 1 glass over 30 minutes. Interestingly I had a nice pour of this five days earlier, and had the chance to revisit today. I have to say that the showing today was the best I can recall from this wine. That may say more about me than it does the wine and perhaps this was an aberration that should not be expected in the future. I picked up a couple bottles so we shall see. This had much more brightness and pretty green fruit, more complexity with almond extract and vanilla bean nuances. More importantly for me, this didn't strike me as overtly chalky. It was very clean in its minerality and bright in a such a good way. Perhaps that's not what others want or expect from this terroir or producer, but I loved it. In the past I have often found this to be one dimensional and overly chalky for me.

A: Pale lemon green N: Apple, coconut, starfruit, wet stone, cheese, yeast, hazelnuts. Tasted blind. Clear, bright, medium straw with green hues. The nose is clean, developing, with apple, pear, lemon, hazelnuts and baked bread (36 months of aging on the lees). The palate is dry, with medium (+) acidity and medium alcohol (12.5%). This is a wonderfully complex Champagne which could easily be someone else's 5 - 10 year old vintage bottling. It has a very good QPR.

Fresh but full bodied and bordering on syrupy. Palate wise stone fruits dominate with minerality, toasted brioch, lemon rind, roasted nuts, almond milk, and mustiness. Everything you’d want plus more for the price. Unfortunately no disgorgement date listed.

This was fantastic. Big fruit for a BdB, but balanced, with lemon and green nectarine notes. Good, energetic bubbles. Went well with oysters. Too bad I only have this one bottle.
Great QPR for the region. Nothing really stands out on this wine, but everything is there in moderation - balance, toasty notes, citrus, medium bodied. etc. (B+/A-).

Left sealed for two days after being opened and then finished. I am normally partial to Pinot driven bubbly, but this is good stuff, especially for the money. I still think this is mostly tart lemon, there is some Granny Smith Apple , vanilla and toast but it is subtle.

In contrast to the prior taster, I found this to exhibit more of the yeasty, toasty, bruised green and red apple side of chardonnay champagne. It has enough cut and is not too autolytic, but it definitely falls on that side of the spectrum, as I guess one would expect from le Mesnil. Day 2 in the fridge, no gas or keeper or anything, this is fresher, less biscuity. Good stuff for the tariff.

Simple, fresh, nice fruit. Not a blockbuster. I think the bottle wasn't stored correctly prior to me purchasing it. I've had this bottling several times before and this lacked the charm the other bottles had. Not great but not bad either. Meh.

This bottle was slightly oxidized. Not to the point it's undrinkable but didn't feel right to score since this is probably in the 86-88 range. Not sure if this was bottle variation or what, I assume it was my last bottle from original purchase in 2015 but showed much older than previously tasted bottles. Hopefully next bottle is better.

A: Clear and pale gold. Fine mousse. N: Green apple, starfruit, lemongrass, coconut, cream, brioche and toasted almond. Quite complex on the nose if you give it time to unfold. P: Dry. Medium (+) acidity, medium alcohol, medium intensity and a medium to long finish. Lime, apple, more coconut cream, minerality and a cranberry crunch.
Good BALANCE between fruit and acidity. Alcohol well integrated. With the length, intensity and complexity (i.e.. primary, secondary and tertiary aromas present), i clock this up as having outstanding quality.
I would buy again at $37.

Once again, the wine exceeds expectations and is really outstanding for a BdB. Tons of up front apple fruit with lots of clean acidity. Like my previous notes, this wine is lovely. Consider this to be one of the best finds in 2016. Enjoy without breaking the bank.
PS, they do produce vintage BdB, but have only seen it once. The 1994 was just lovely.

90-91: Very nice, fine bead, short but full mousse, nose of crisp apple and yeast, palate is reminiscent of a light flaky baked apple tart and pear compote, very nice with a decent focus and crisp acidity. Really enjoy this at the price point, glad I grabbed more of the recent disgorgement.
More of the same and this time we even got chilled glass flutes. I think this has great cut, small crisp bead and just enough fruit. This is my house champagne till something better comes along

Monthly Tasting Group: Northern Rhone (Tilia, Mpls): Drank a small pour over 15 minutes. This was the best example I've had of this in recent memory. More often I find this heavy handed and just to overtly sharp and chalky. This bottle, seemed lighter, with a clean mineral core and more green fruits to balance and support the mineral spine.

This wine is clear and is pale yellow. The condition is clean. The intensity is medium. The aroma is green fruit, Granny Smith apples, and biscuit. On the palate this wine is dry. The acidity is high. There are no tannins. The wine has a light body. Green apples, pears, and yeasty. The fruit is fairly pronounced. Has a medium finish. The quality is very good.

Pale yellow with fine vigorous beads. Yeasty just baked bread, yellow peach, nectarine and nut oils on the nose. Color/app: light yellow appearance with minimal mousse. Pleasant bouquet showing bread-brioche, marzipan, a little citrus and caramel-dipped Granny Smith apple slices. So wish I could say the palate lived up to the nose but while it showcased all those lovely aromatic elements and a plush and lush fruit forwardness, the palate showed a touch of sour bitterness on the finish and some coarseness to the bead. Certainly a nice Champagne and while very well priced for a GC, more in line with a PC in quality.

This suffers from severe bottle variation. The good ones are delightful, dry but rich, with a delicious mouth feel of brioche. Nice bright acids and long finish.
The bad bottles are undrinkable, metallic tasting and very dull.
We had 2 bad, 2 awesome, and one in the middle. 88-91 on the decent ones, the other 2 went down the sink. No disgorge date so I can't tell if that is the issue, but they were all purchased together.
As stated in the other review, the corks are very short - not sure if this is part of the problem.
Shame, without the inconsistency and at the price point it is a bit of a bargain.

Pretty darn tasty Le Mesnil for the money! Little sharp at first on the bubbles…very fresh with tons of citrus, crisp acidity…lemon, green apple, grapefruit…..has a nice creme to it…little caramel, yeast dough, ginger mousse……lavender honey……good crunch and minerality as well. Reminds me of a NV Pierre Peters with a little more yeast to it. If you can't afford to drink Salon every week…this will do!!

As soon as this arrived from Lay and Wheeler it had the look of a bottle that had been around for a few years. The cork stayed pretty straight after opening, and the wine exhibited quite a few sherry aromas. This was a world away from the half-bottle that I enjoyed from Fortnum's earlier this year.
This bottle held up well and while this champagne may benefit from short-term ageing, I did contact L+W to let them know that their stock had seen better days.

By the glass at Sumosan, London. Quite a round and rich wine, felt quite mature and evolved. Very yeasty and bready. Lacked a bit of definition as the richness overpowered the structure of this wine. Very nice still but not one for the long term. A touch short on the finish. 89-90

Pronounced nose of caster sugar, vanilla, fresh green apples, feels creamy. Nose quite intense for a Mesnil. Rather creamy in the mouth, no yeast at all, so it feels steely but not austere as a Mesnil champagne might be. It was very pleasant, but more as an aperatif style or w/o food. Temperature is paramount, when it gets warmer than 10C, it become more flabby and less precise, drink it cold.

Another fun btl. Not a rock star but more a reliable example of BdB from Mesnil. Paid $40 and worth it. I'd buy and drink this any day ahead of the now $50+ Pierre Peters if you want a frame of reference. This shows more richness and stuffing. I also think this offers substantially more depth than the nice value $34 Bonville BdB.

Fine mousse. Fresh nose of applejuice, brioche and nice (high) amounts of autolysis. Decent volume and length. Don't know date of degorgement but based on levels of acidity and state of cork this is quite young and i'm sure it will develop nicely and become a bit more put together over the next couple of years. That being said, this is just deliciously fresh at the moment so no need for putting too deep in the cellar. 89-91

100% Chardonnay all from Grand Cru vineyards within Mesnil-Sur-Oger. This cooperative of growers produces wine from some of the best Chardonnay terroir in all of Champagne. Pale gold with a fine bead. Highly aromatic with a strong bread dough character that gains support from notes of apple, lime, roasted almonds and a hint of caramel. The medium/full body palate offers up a very dry expression of pears and toast that is nicely balanced by the richness of the texture. Delicious and a steal at the price (around $15 less than Veuve and the other big house NV Bruts and significantly higher quality, in our opinion). www.advinetures.ca

Lovely champagne! On the nose beautiful citrus fruit. Lemon, tangerine peel, almond, biscuit, vanilla. Light and nuanced, palate is not super powerful but has great acidity. Just a touch of mushroom starting to poke through. Love it!

Big Bottle Festival (Cellars Hohenort): An invigorating champagne that is bright and intense with zingy acidity. There are freshly crushed nuts, lemon, white pepper, herb and some mineral. Just showing some early development but a lovely wine.

This was a pleasant surprise. We gave this wine a try given its low price point (low $30 range) and it turned out to be a very fresh and drinkable Mesnil champagne. It has wonderful wiry and forward fruit flavors that scream Le Mesnil and is packed with strong minerality. For there price, this is one of the best blanc de blanc buys on the market. Especially for fans of the Cote de Blanc style.

Big, ripe apple aromas and flavors with a little bit of roasted nut and a big dose of minerality. I'd have liked a bit more acidity. Bottle was purchased at least 4 or 5 years ago, so I'm not sure how old it is.

Light gold, persistant mousse. Lots of buiscut, meyer lemon, and stonefruits on the nose. I like this slightly less than the Henriot Souverain which is at the same pricepoint. Still pretty damn good value tho.

Bead coarser than in the past; probably a glass issue. Big yeast on the nose. Opens taut but relaxes over time, spreading an expansive, sweetish midpalate with notes of plum. Good grip and resonant finish. Definite bargain.

This is a great entry level wine. Don't know if it's sold in the US, it was given to me in Grand Cayman. Nose of fresh cut green apple and pear, crisp acidity in the midpallet and a clean finish. I think it's it better than PJ... I think it costs around $30 US, which is great for a wine from Grand Cru vineyards.

Five months later, this stuff is really coming on. Fine bead, good scents of yeast and buttered toast not present last time; solid fruit in the middle -- green apple with a hint of red berry; a developing finish adequate to chase bowfin caviar. A big hit with the winos and the novices alike. A provisional 92, which makes it a steal. Young vines, yes, but great dirt.

Liked this very much, although I prefer a tad more freshness and less of the biscuit, toasted hazelnut, and oxidized orchard fruits. Is quite interesting served on its own, where you can really explore the nutty, baked character.

On the yeasty side of the street, with good fruit, and a hint of sweetness that was more evident to LC than to me. Good mouthfeel, spot on acidity. Pretty easy drinking on its own, and also good with nuts and cheese. Ooops.. about a third of the bottle was left in the fridge a couple of days. No harm no foul. Still as bubbly as on day one. Any hint of sweetness is gone, and what is there is a hint of green apple and less yeast. So.. what does this mean? Age a bottle? Decant?

Wine Cellar - Bordeaux Left Bank (Wine Cellar): (Tasted Blind): The bouquet reveals lovely biscuits, flat-crust pastry, lemon peel and orchard fruits. An athletic wine, the acid is tight and fresh and weaves between brioche, Forelle pear, crushed unroasted nuts and lemon biscuits. Very enjoyable, there is a chalky edge and a long finish.

To look at this wines is of an old gold colour and has good bubble size. the nose of this wine consists of oxidized apples, with over ripe peaches, apricots, elegant honey, creamy biscuit and mandarin zest notes
on the palate is wine shows consistency form the nose its dry, light body with a pleasant mousse and 12% alc, the flavors are apples, with over ripe peaches, apricots bananas, strawberry, lycees with again elegant more noticeable honey, creamy biscuit and toffee, reminding me of a nice light banoffee pie but with side of backed apricot apples and peach topped with grated satsuma or mandarin zest
This Champagne is for me a very good Blanc De Blancs especially that of a coop

Chisled aromas of graphite, crushed sea shells, and chalk over a foundation of yeasty bread dough. Large-scaled on the palate with gobs of ripe pear and baked apple flavors. I would have liked to have followed this wine over a greater period of time, as I think it might have improved even more with air. Alas, such is the nature of Champagne! 89-90 points.

We tasted the old label of this wine against 7 other high-end Champagnes. It dominated the tasting. Sex in a bottle...creamy, nutty, a touch of sweetness from the dosage that was well balanced with the acidity of the wine.
If anyone has bottles of this (the old white label with Les Mesnil in big RED script) I would happily buy it! cdahline@firstrepublic.com

Changed the label for the new release but I preferred the previous wine. A nice BdB typical characteristics of the type but really lacked towards the finish just sort of falling away into nothingness. Hard to argue with the price but as mentioned previous releases have been better. Held up amazingly consistently over 3 nights in the fridge wide open only losing maybe 50% of its bubbles.

Golden yellow color. Persistent stream of bubbles, fairly widely dispersed, though mostly from the center. Nose of apples, with a slight chalkiness. Palate is quite creamy and round, with a very ripe red apple quality. Not terribly complex, but fairly decent in its style. To drink now.

Opened and served immediately. Light yellow to yellow color in the glass, clear hue throughout with light to medium beading. Nose of citrus, brioche, yellow pear and yellow apple. A little later showed some mushroom. Flavors of yellow apple, yellow pear and lemon. Medium finish and mousse. This was all in the first 30 minutes. Right around the 30 minute mark the wine started fading fairly quickly on both the nose and palate. If you have them drink them now and fast.

Most of the right stuff. Stylistically, its right in my zone of "not too heavy", "not too razor sharp". It does come across as a bit tight / sharp on the midpalate and finish, though it does open up a bit in the glass. In general I like this better than 1996 Lenoble, especially given the cost of this one. I think this could be better in a year, to the extent it makes any sense to set down a $30 bottle of NV ;)

I'm happy to add this to the wines from Le Mesnil to the list, as it holds its own agains some of the higher tier bottlings. I am starting to see the terroir in this village. Fantastic yeasty nose, bread dough. Along with minerals, chalk, and green apple. Bone dry with an almost chalky mouthfeel. Crisp acidity on finish. I have to seek more of this!!!

Remarkably tasty. I would guess that it was based on 2003 given its ripeness. Not out of balance but extremely ripe for Champagne, loads of rich long peach and pear. Great value. I would recommend drinking up - tasty but it doesn't have the spine for aging.

Tasted March 16, 2008. Opened and served immediately. Yellow color in the glass, clear hue throughout. Powerful, almost earthy nose with some notes of mushroom, bread dough and various citrus fruits. Fairly straightforward palate of citrus and yellow fruits. Decent acidity and weight on the palate. A bit more brutish than I tend to like my Champagne but a nice QPR based ont he $28.95 per bottle price. Drink over the short term.

Soft doughy French bread and lemon meringue with some chalk and minerals on a nose that is on the reticent side. Tart lemon with some slight bitter notes on the finish, but with much more richness than I am used to in a NV BdB. Good minerality and strong acidity. Excellent for the price. On par with Pierre Moncuit NV Bdb with this having more richness but less clean than the Moncuit.

Nice to see ten year old vintage bdb grand cru for such a reasonable price. This will probably age for another ten years or more. The next day, much the same, maybe even richer.

Pnp; nose is rich with coconut, whipped cream, Jordan almonds.

Value for money. A very nice glass of Champagne. A lot of fallen apples, grape, peach and brioche on the nose.
The bobles are fine and The aftertaste is medium long
Still a good glass the day after

Devraj summed it up very well, like this quite a lot, especially for richer side and the light toasted underpinning, great nose and depth, quite clean with a lot going on from start to finish both for bottle and across the nose and palate.

Light gold in color with steady small bubbles. Aromas of Meyer lemons, tangerine oil, florals, spice and biscuit on the nose. Palate has a still wine feel to it showing pears, golden delicious apples, toasted almonds, medium acidity and a decent floral finish.

Bought from Mondo Vino. Which usually has a premium for their items. This wine and subsequent Vineyard obviously has a certain pedigree. Let's see how it does.
Color. Yellow with a tinge of gold. Suggesting age of cuvee.
Nose. Toasted bread, yeast, lemon, vanilla, flowers.

The Champagnes for this event really held up well with transport - I think better than any virtual event we've doe to date. I'm not sure why, just glad they did. This was showing apple, spice, chalk, green apple blossom on the nose. The palate showed tart apple, apple peel, fine chalk, quince, lots of yeastiness, wet stones, fleshy fruit, quite bright and crisp acid. 91+pts.

A *decidely* FOOD friendly style that should be MARVELOUS @ the table! 12.5% ABV; My EXC/EXC+, but one HAS to *love* acidity, I suspect.

Actually: Mesnil Brut NV
$45
Blanc de Blanc
9g dosage - a bit lower than I thought but still at the high end.
2.5 yrs on lees - I'm surprised - I didn't pick it up.

Now with is a good BdB! Nice acidity with tons of great flavors such as almond, pear, and lemon. Normally not a fan of BdBs, but this is lovely and was enjoyed by all while at Hog Island Oyster Co.
(The Le Mesnil Champagne Grand Cru BdB Millésimé NV was more enjoyable than the Robert Moncuit Brut NV that was served at dinner.)

Allt finns där, en utmärkt och typisk BdB från Mesnil. Möjligen saknas lite övertoner, och utvecklingen i glaset är inte överväldigande. Men en bra leverans från kooperativet.

Pale yellow with fine vigorous beads. Yeasty just baked bread, yellow peach, nectarine and nut oils on the nose. Rather intense palate for the price-point; crisp acidity, slightly oxidative (in a good sort of way) with good depth to the crushed yellow fruits, hint of honey and toast on the long linear finish.

Tasted December 7, 2008.
