Lunch Bistro Rex: On opening, the nose is all flint, struck match and smoke, but over 30 minutes or so white stone fruits, brioche and hazelnuts emerge, and merge with the smoke. The palate is deliciously creamy in texture, and the last glass was the best. Needs time but really good. Thank you GF 18.75+.
Home-drinking- consistent with previous note. Followed an Egly Rose and in comparison showed a bit light in terms of personality/singularity. Lots of lemon curd and very yeasty. Very gulpable.

Enjoyed this tremendously. Terrific champagne. Light straw color. Toasty brioche and citrus on the nose. Lovely on the palate with a little lemon, apple, nuttiness. Could I have let it rest longer? Sure. But no complaints with enjoying today.
Beautiful, crisp, honey glazed toasted champagne. In a really good place this was enjoyed for my sisters 50th birthday. Long crisp finish. Highly enjoyable.

Reductive as hell, as I find young DP usually is -- nearly undrinkably so for the first half hour. Started to open up a bit, but I only had one glass and it was mostly gone by that point. The quality of the material is obvious underneath the reduction, but this badly needs air, time, or both.

My guess is the previous tasting the bottle had been open a while. Big difference. Previously was way more open and expressive.
Decided to decant after drinking the first glass: 91pts. Was indeed holding back. Nice but not complex. Aroma very DP. No doubt. Interesting that did not change at all over the duration of consumption.
Over the course of 1.5 hours consuming this opened up nicely and evolved. Typical DP flavors of toasted almond, hazelnuts, yeast, bread, slight tinge of burnt orange/caramel, citrus, almond mousse. Drank from Reidel all purpose glass. Agree w other comments, this has a long runway. Starting to approach a long drinking window but this bottle was far from peak. Will hold my other bottles many years.

Very good but just too young. Lot’s of acidity and gunmetal. Some citrus fruit and hints of brioche. Best in the 2nd and 3rd pours then shut down. Totally unlike the ‘13 Salon I had a few months ago which was more open for business. 93 in 5 years?
At Vaqueta Gastro Mercat. Knockout nose of roasted hazelnut oil, fresh, sweet brioche and toast. The palate is light in its feet, but loaded with flavor. Rich and I tenderly nutty with roasted hazelnuts, membrillo and lemon/lime Zest as well as some oyster shell minerality and a long, complex finish. Excellent, but I’d love to taste it again in 5-10 years. 96

At this stage a pretty yeasty champagne with a steely character. Green in the nose with some vanilla. Good acidity. Some bitterness in the after taste. Strawberries and strangely so, some black olives and iodine. A wine that has not come together yet. Do not drink.

1995 Dom Pérignon Champagne Oenothèque: couldn’t really evaluate this due to light oxidation. The 1996 is a stunning wine, and assume this could be too from some of the notes in the distance.
2008 Dom Pérignon Champagne Brut Chef de Cave Legacy Edition: I’ve had numerous bottles of the regular label 2008, and this tasted richer but less lively to me - so it must have been the bottle. No idea. P3.
2012 Dom Pérignon: This was a firecracker. So lively and, for me, the Champagne of the night. Flinty on nose - which is a surefire way to my wine-tasting heart. H4.

Dinner at home with friends - Very reductive style of Champagne and quality underlying material. I let this warm excessively unfortunately to express its full qualities. On the first impressions only this is a great Dom. It is no longer a wine I am chasing though for cellaring as the value is not obvious versus the greater singularity offered by Grower Champagnes.
Still one of my favorite vintages of Dom. The only knock on it for this tasting event was that it was served a touch too warm and out of Champagne flutes. I prefer to drink my vintage Champagne out of Grassl Liberte glassware.
Another great, complex bottle of 2012 Dom. Enjoyed with friends over a lovely meal. Freshness undiminished, still largely in the primary stage, although with a slightly reduced mousse. Just delicious. Some savored the notes in their glass to the very end of the evening, while fantastic reds were being consumed over hearty, truffle covered steaks in demiglace.

Straw hue with delicate aromas of green apple, cantaloupe, strawberry and a citrus bouquet with the finest bubbles that have graced the planet. The wine is dry and driven by the fruit with a silky smooth flow and remarkable structure. The finish is decadent. This vintage is generous on the palate and the wine is out of this world.

Dom Perignon Tasting (Winter Village at the Westin, Edina, MN): Light gold color. Drank a glass plus over an hour plus. PN50, C50, 8yrs on lees. Intense nose, magnificent toast, brioche, orchard fruit, ginger snaps, almond paste, toasted almonds on the nose. The palate is tangy and giving; pear, crystalline late minerality, creamy, toasty, almond parfait, subtle lychee and Meyer lemon notes. This is incredibly vibrant already and exquisitely balanced. Impressive, loved it. 96(+)pts.
Dom Perignon 2012. 94-95p

At 350 main Park City. A much better Champs than the NYE pull of the 2008 Grand Dame. Had higher hopes than the current and future but oh well- man plans g-d laughs.
The Dom is beautiful out of the gate, lemon, pear, red & yellow apple, apricot?, slate, flowers (no clue). A nice wine now and later. Not surprisingly it has a lower acid profile that the 2008 from NYE amd 2013. I believe, have to retaste, the 2013 has a better overall delivery than the 2012- and the 2008 is in another league entirely.
Will this age well into its 30s- nope. 20s maybe but will become more quaffable than intellectual.

Sadly, this bottle was corked. But the potency of this vintage was still pretty obvious. A fantastic year for DP and despite the cork taint on the nose, the material underneath was so good that I’ve had a second glass.
Similar to previous bottle. Opened on Christmas. No one knew what it was (I poured somewhat discretely), but all who had a glass remarked how good it was.

Bookclub (served blind)--Sean (Foretti's in Corona Del Mar): Served blind alongside the Mousse Les Vignes de Mon Village 2018 base. Both when the wine was first served and after a few hours of air, the Dom displayed s pretty decent amount of smoke/toasted barrique signature, plus some white pepper. Light lemon, tangerine, along with what seemed akin to lemon curd. Good tension and balance but a more subtle wine. In truth, I preferred the Mousse of the two.

This is way too young but 60 min in the glass does soften this energetic beast. This needs at least another 5 years to reach prime. However, with time in the glass this shows a full bodied, hedonistic wine that will develop into a well balanced wine with a long finish. Revisit 2027

Celebration for Oct babies: Much more Dom-like compared to my previous experience. Reductive, gunpowder notes, toasty notes. Tightly coiled and not open at all. After some time, loosened up to reveal sweet, candied fruit. Still needs a lot more time.

Saturday night Laksa party at Wimborne. Drank in Gabriel Standart. Showy and I love it. Appearance is clear, pale intensity, lemon colour. Big bubbles. Thin legs. Nose is clean, medium+ intensity, with aromas of nuttiness, brioche, toasty oak, ripe citrus lemon. Developing. On the palate, dry, good high acidity, medium- alcohol (12.5%), medium+ body. Medium+ flavour intensity, with flavours of nuts, brioche, toasty oak, sweet cream, ripe citrus lemon, peach, stony minerals with some sea-shell minerality. Very long finish. Wasn't expecting this to be that good as the P2 to be tasted later that night weighed on my champagne mind. This delivered. Impressed.

This was more generous on both the nose and palate than the 2010 and had more brioche/toast vs the more doughy/yeasty profile of the 2010. Love the energy on the palate here. Lemon and stone fruit palate with a structured yet creamy mouthfeel. Really liked this and while young there is no shame in opening one of these now if you have a good stash but certainly very age worthy and I suspect this will develop into something special in a decade or two.

One of the best regular bottling of Dom I’ve had. While not a P2, it has tiny little bubbles and is super smooth and approachable even at this young age. A great way to start our dinner event.

Crazy large and wasteful packaging. The wine itself is impressive enough without going TX size on the presentation. A so-young wine that shows all the youthful beauty of green apples, touches of lemon mousse, and a well balanced acidity. This vintage will be hard not to open before it reaches its peak at probably another 10+ years down the road.

Had 2012 before and was pleasantly surprised by how ready to drink it was. Lots of green apple and brioche. This bottle (first of a case of 12 I have) had a dusty, malic acid flavor — almost like a bretty wild ferment wine. Hopefully just an off bottle. Others weren’t as bothered by it as I was.

Impressive intensity and length. Very rich and lux feeling. Touch of bitterness on the finish which although isn’t great for now bodes we’ll for the future. Try again in a couple of years. 4
pale gold color, on this third tasting two years since the first bottle - the wine has quickly harmonized beautifully, soaring nose of roasted walnuts, pear, apple and marshmallow, on the palate it is less obviously sweet than before and remains a magnificent Dom Perignon not for any particular characteristic as in vintages like 1982, 1985, 1996 or 2008- but rather for being uniformly and evenly excellent in all respects, in this it now clearly most resembles the 1990, mousse and floral notes emerging after 2 hours in glass, splendid, entering a very long and glorious drinking window but note that tonight's bottle really only began to sing after 2 hours, and so right now I would strongly advise either decanting this, or opening 2 hours ahead.

At restaurant Domtrappkällaren in Uppsala, Sweden (great wine list!). Medium yellow-gold. Apple, lemon, pineapple, bread crust, nuts, chalk, and flint/smoke, with good acidity and impressive length. The mousse is super-fine and smooth. Really great persistence. It is easy to sense that there is more complexity to come with age, and yet the 2012 DP is very accessible and provides a lot of pleasure already. A great vintage for DP!

Champagnes and Burgundies: Intense and rich, but curiously quite a thin body which made it come across as bland. Guessed a weaker vintage like 2014/15. Didn’t have the signature reductive notes but after a couple of hours the gunpowder notes made it obvious that it was a Dom.

Real strong Chablis feeling. Intense and rich. Reductive and oxidized at the same time. Tastes balanced and rich, with toasty after taste. Neutral but long bubbles. Fine structure and complexity. 55% Pinot noir 20% Chardonnay 25% Pinot meunière
Green apples, touch of cinnamon. Chalky creaminess on the end. This really showed the "classic" Dom smokiness on the finish which I initially, tasting blind, mistook for being a sign of an older, more mature vintage. It certainly adds a wonderful character and complexity.
Initially tasted blind. An absolute pleasure to try this along with the 1996 and 2002 vintage in the first flight of what had been billed to me as "casual Sunday evening drinks"!

Impressive layering at this early stage- lemon custard/candied lemon citrus with deep minerality, graphite/wet stone with bits of almond shavings, hazelnut and ginger type peppery note on the finish. Good acidity and shows a good piquant energy to the palate amongst some quality fruit. Needs a least another 3-4 years to check in again.

Very balanced, and more open than I expected. Generous fruit with a touch of spice. Loads of brioche with a hint of something a bit difficult to put a finger on--maybe a touch of nuttiness--that shows on the midpalate? Acidity, mousse and mouthfeel are all impeccably harmonious. Long finish. Drink or hold.

2012 feels a bit more wild and crisp than the 2008 vintage. It’s a fantastic wine with complex fruit layers and a laser sharp acidity. It’s just not as elegant as 2008 - anyway an incredible vintage. (IG)

Pretty classic Dom Perignon nose: smoky, nutty, citrus, stone fruit, some tropical notes, nuts, apple, pear, minerals, citrus peel, flowers. Lemon, stone fruit, apple, herbs, minerals, and citrus peel on the palate. Strong acidity, but not screeching, full bodied, long finish, very concentrated, and yet light on it's feet. No notes taken. This shows very well, despite being still a baby. On the heels of the brilliant 2008, this shows almost equal tension, freshness, structure and aromatic precision with probably a bit more orchard fruit at this early point and more openness whereas the 2008s was for a long time tight and all about citrus. All the telltale DP aromas are there too. Easily 95/96pts today but this can get close to perfection once mature 15, 20 years down the road.

Rolling into a 12U Little League team party and not expecting this treat.
As if catering sushi & hibachi in celebration of some 12 year old baseball wasn't enough, I was handed some Dom Perignon to wash it all down with throughout the night. I always joked that my kids live in a bubble and it's official now as I toast in La La of the Little League Dodgers.
Our gracious host and coach was given a case of 2012 the previous year after a solid loosing season. A gift from a parent who said their kid had a blast regardless of the team record.
Cheers to the unexpected.

Straw/pale yellow. Slightly yeasty note with citrus, hazelnuts, tangerine, green apple and bright lemon cream. Palate is fresh with lively acidity. Lots of citrus, some minerality, still young and somewhat linear. Needs much more time, opening right now does it disservice. Add age and complexity and this will be a winner.

I mean, this was just really good. Yeah, it’s maybe a bit young but jeez it’s still good now. There is a good amount of lemony, apply fruit and it’s pretty fleshy but the acid is great, there are some nice autolytic notes. This was the first time I’ve had Dom. God bless you Phil, thanks dude!
Fruit forward and very drinkable with some creaminess but mostly fruit and would have liked a bit more acid or toast or other counterpoint, in 5-10 years with secondary notes might be incredible

Fair enough, if you want a growers’ ideal of champagne then you must look elsewhere. If you are into bottle variation and unruly balance go someplace else. This could be mistaken for boring but I believe it is elegance that you didn’t have the time to notice. I can’t make up my mind if the automobile equivalent is an old school Mercedes or a Lexus, the latter being perhaps a little more boring.

A few days in Napa with fellow CT'r Cristal2000: Who doesn’t love a glass of Dom right before you head off to the Promontory library to enjoy some of the best Cabernet in the Valley? Typically I gravitate toward Cristal and Krug when I’m reaching for a bottle of big house Champagne in this particular genre, but 2012 was especially kind to the beloved Dom, and I have to say that I was quite taken by this version of the “it’s everywhere and everyone seems to have this” producer. Truth be told, I’m loving Taittinger Comtes these days when it comes to the bigguns, but the Dom's pure lemon oil, yellow apple, lemon grass, wet limestone, and almond skin notes presented as remarkably pure and contoured. I kinda figured a 2012 Dom would be uber-bready, but the yeast was under control and barely discernible among the pristine citrus and mineral flavors. 94-95 points.

Beat the Dom Perignon 2012 (Medlar, London SW10): Single blind. I was wondering if this was a young BdB as it was quite light in colour and the nose showed lemon, lime and grapefruit. The wine seemed more on the fruit than the preceding two wines (which turned out to be Comtes 08 and Krug 168 respectively) and very well made. I made it fourth WOTN. From Jancis.

Single blind. Very pale colour. Very young. Incredible energy on the nose and palate. Still very one dimensional but what a perfect dimension that is! I guessed the 08 comtes but it was the 12 dp. My favourite of the night and the group’s equal favourite.

Beat the DP 2012? (Medlar, Chelsea): Clearly the palest, fizziest wine tonight. Some reduction on the nose, and seemed very young despite there being some savoury notes. Super clean, light-bodied feel to the palate, and lots of citrus, the combination reminding me of 1980s lemonade. Classy stuff, and seemed to have the most potential for improvement of tonight's wines.
I correctly guessed this as the DP, and voted it my #2 of the evening. Sure enough, the group wasn't able to beat it, as it was voted joint group WOTN.

Dom Perignon 1959-2012: Ten wines, eight DPs plus a 2002 P2 vs Moet Collection match-up. A superb tasting. All five 40+ years old DPs showed lively, complex, balanced and intellectually as well as hedonistically appealing. Best wine was the 1976 (97pts) which needed air to blow of some faulty/oxidation notes and reveal all its glorious complexity and freshness. Just a step behind (all 96pts) the hyper complex 1959, an almost young-ish 1975, and the still tight but incredibly fine and promising P2. An odd-ball 1980 (95pts), likely a special bottling with higher dosage, showed like a Piper Heidsieck Rare on steroids. The only disappointments were the very slightly corked 2003 (but showed superb substance underneath) and a badly corked 1990.
TN: Expressive nose with herbs, minerality, some brioche and toasty notes all wrapped around a citrus, lime and apple core. The nose screams Dom Perignon. Very fresh on the palate but already open, even if it is still a touch wild with lots of bubbles. The same aroma profile with apple, peach citrus, smoke, minerality, some nutty and brioche notes. Incredible energy and very promising future. Very enjoyable today but it should be so much better in a few years.

My second time trying the 2012. It's a 95+ now, but I really want keep the bottles I have for many years due to how it will evolve!
It is destined for greatness. An aroma of citrus and fresh fruit opens up the experience. As it decants a little in the flute, the dry floral (a signature of Dom Perignon for me) aroma is ever present. The taste is full bodied, fresh, and complex. It's finish is powerful with an luxurious sleek aftertaste. The taste unfolds on the palate for several minutes. It's an excellent young DP. And in 5 years it will be great. In 10 years and later it could be one of my all time favorites. (1996, 2002 are my absolute favorite). 2008 is coming along beautifully as well. 51% Chardonnay - 49% Pinot Noir

Dom Pérignon through Decades: Matter of Taste Masterclass “Dom Pérignon through Decades”. Impressive demonstration of the longevity of Dom Pérignon 1959-2012 with most still decent if not great shape. However, I did prefer the linearity of more recent vintages (2012, 2003) and consequently the wine of the tasting was also the straightest of them all which was the 2002 P2. Of the older vintages 1980 and 1975 were drinking best in my view. More snippets on history, fun facts and wine list included in the tasting story.
Tasting note: Lightly toasted notes of brioche and bakery with a distinct pear and green apple fruit, all on top of a broad mineral base. A herbal dimension and almond slivers. Intense palate, fresh with lots of tension. Promising, even if not as impressive as the Cristal 2012 at first sight.

Flickinger Tasting at The Casino (Chicago, IL): Another nice showing of this wine, consistent with my memory of it. Another great bottle. Close to the one I had for Christmas, I had the possibility to compare it with Moet Grand Vintage 13 e Dom Perignon 2010. A month off; 12/10/2022-1/5/2023 (Dubai Sydney Canberra): A little young. Full of energy. Aroma of lemon, with a touch of toasted nuts. Flowery flavours of acacia honey, orange and apple pie. But it’s a little austere and unyielding just now. Wait 5 more years and I expect this will sing.

My first time to taste this wine. It is so much better than tbe 2010 and on par or maybe a hair behind 2008. Matchstick reduction, a little burned popcorn on the nose, with notes of buttered cookie, lemon lime and flaky biscuit. And it has substance and depth under the hood. This will turn out to be legendary and I intend to pick up more based on this. Skip 2010.

Salt minerals, seaweed, leather, smoke, lemon, brioche, coffee and apples on the nose. Fruity on the palate. Good balance. Good length. Tasted a bit warmer than last time, which revealed other aromas. Very good champagne. 94p

Still light golden with a brisk tiny bead, this iteration of Dom Pérignon remains beautifully aromatic. Nectarine, pear, brioche, toasted almond, cardamom and wet stone scents are front and center. Medium-bodied, vibrant and with a creamy yet energetic mousse, it delivers flavors in line with the aromas, adding notes of citrus and ginger. Dense in the middle and long on the back end, this is currently very enjoyable but will definitely get better with more time in the cellar. Drink 2025-2042.

Outstanding wine already, but should be even better with more age. Lemon zest and toastiness on the nose and palate. Beautiful fruit with a very long finish. What a treat.

Really long finish, really fresh and lively. Completely balanced, high acids with unnoticeable sugar making it dry. Bread notes less pronounced on the palate and more citrus fruit. Crunchy and fresh orchard fruits. First experience with anything close to this price range.

An end of the day order from Uber Eats because we ran out of champagne. Can you believe that either of those things are possible? Such a contrast to the Jacques Copin we had just finished. In contrast this was much sleeker, citrus and lemons and acidic with foamy little bubbles. So tasty but in a much more refined way. I have only had a few champagnes from this vintage (this Dom and a Pierre Jouet) and I really like 2012 so far.
Ulysse Collin dinner at Shaw's (Chicago, IL): Even more reductive than the 2008 alongside, though maybe that's a function of the relative youth. Tonight, I actually liked this bottle a little more, though the 2008 pulled up to this pretty closely at the end of the evening. This was fresher, brighter, more put-together and minerally. Surprisingly, there's a slight tinge of tropical fruit (pineapple) today, but I found it adding interest today. Really goes to show how much of an outperformer the 2012 is.

Danish Top 20 champagne blind tasting vintage 2012 (24 btls) (Nimb): Horisontal half blind tasting of 24 top champagnes from vintage 2012. Conclusion: It is a great vintage. My topratings were to some extent unexpected. My winner was Diebolt-Vallois Fleur de Passion which I rated 96. In a shared second place with 94+ were Legras Saint Vincent (unexpected but I don't forget that 1996 might be the best champagne I have ever tasted so far. Try to get a btl. if you can. It is difficult but worth it - still in a perfect drinking window), Veuve Clicquot vintage(!), Moet & Chandon Grand vintage(!) and Perrier-Jouet Belle Epoque.
This wine: Delicate aromas of dried fruit, lemon, grapefruit, toast and coffee. No apple. Creamy mousse.

Champagne Tasting (Restaurant Valuas, Venlo): Very reductive at first. Flintstone is all I could smell. Then it opens up relatively nice but still remains quite tight and austere. If drinking now give it plenty of time. WOTN, but I think that's only because the Agrapart beside it shut down completely after a few minutes and did not open back up.
My first 2012 DP. We drank half of the bottle pre-dinner. It presented well, I liked it, but wasn’t overwhelmed. Left the second half for post-dinner three hours later. We were actually gobsmacked. A rich kaleidoscope of champagne beauty.

Bright straw colored with hints of green. Extremely persistent bubbles (this was drunk in a flight with Cristal and Bollinger GA both in 2012) that outlives all of the rivals. Classic nose of pear, apples, chalk, some honey, and a somewhat reductive tone. As always the mousse is formidable - caressing, foamy, and a real mouthful. The mid palate, however, is a bit bitter in the vein of grapefruit. This impression is reduced in the finish, but the aftertaste is still a bit bitter and "edgy". Long. This remind me of drinking DP 2008 when it was released, it just seemed a bit disjointed. This is in the same vein, the individual parts are fine, but it has still not come together. Wait 2-3 years before drinking. The 2008 is drinking perfectly now!

Amazing 2012. Beautiful color. Gentle bubbels. As smooth as ever. While tasting this you are waiting for something that may not be perfect but after waiting it remains amazing. No flaws to detect This will get better over the years.

Gift from Diego. Drank to celebrate R's TkTk job offer with Diego, C, and J. Beautiful wine: delicate, high acid with citrus/lemon predominating. Handled delicately but still overflowed on pulling the cork. Even at 10 years, very young.

The handful of times I've had this wine its felt linear and without a lot of depth; nice orchard fruit but lacking a bit of depth and oomph. This bottle was no different. Look forward to trying this in a few more years.

To me this was more approachable than any recent vintage I’ve had. Yes it’s a bit corporate and manufactured but the quality is just so undeniable. Stylistically made to please crowds with no reductiveness or funk. This is just so easy to like and throw back.

Classic DP nose of cream, white chocolate, yellow apple, ripe citrus, with a bit of reduction but not overwhelmingly so. Rich and powerful, excellent silky concentration, plenty of structure, a little bit tight in the middle, huge resonating finish. Excellent potential and can be drunk now but should improve. All the same, it does taste a bit ... manufactured? But the finest manufacturing there is.

The smoky, mineral nose really reminded me of the 2008 when we first opened the bottle but the palate is significantly more approachable and round than the 2008 was when it was first released. That being said, I plan on holding our remaining bottles for awhile as there appears to be quite some room for improvement here.
APPEARANCE: Color & intensity: pale lemon
NOSE: Intensity: medium (+) Aromas: smoke, white flowers, mirabelle plum, bread dough, crushed chalk Development: developing
PALATE: Sweetness: dry Acidity: medium (+) Alcohol: medium Body: medium Mousse: delicate Intensity: medium (+) Flavors: toast, smoke, crushed chalk, lemon, lemon zest, hint of salt Finish: long
CONCLUSIONS: Quality level: very good Potential for ageing: can drink now (although it is still too young for our personal tastes), with excellent potential for ageing

The flavours are relatively fruit-forward, with mostly lemon zest and minerality notes. Very clean, and only has subtle hints of yeasty notes. Easy-going, good but not great.
Ready to drink now, might improve on further cellaring.

By the glass. Extremely clean and precise, almost lean (like a lot of 2012s currently, despite the vintage reputation), a lot more mineral than fruit, excellent balance. Air and warmth brought out some yellow fruit and more reduction, like a fine white Burgundy, but the finish continued to lack generosity. I think this wine will benefit from a LOT of time.

This is a solid Dom that definitely has big potential for the future. This is drinking well now but will certainly put on more weight and complexity as it ages.
Bright and focussed, young, fresh and full of energy.mineral, polished and much like the few times we have had this already an impressive 94. Vintages come and vintages go but Dom is Dom and when is reasonably priced there few reasons to go down a different path.

Third time was not a charm. The same light bodied, overly herbaceous, fruit-challenged wine as on the previous two occasions. I really don't understand what happened here. Avoid.

A really good showing again. Bright, crisp yellow and citrus fruit layered with slight oak notes, yeast, pastry, toast, and lemon curd. Fine mousse, long finish, lots of good mouthwatering acidity to back up the yeast autolytic flavors. Still very young, I would definitely age this. Still predominantly youthful with not a lot of tertiary notes yet.
Personally like this as much as the 2008 Dom Perignon, albeit this one seems like it will age better. Lots of potential, 94-95pts for today.

Pale straw color. Light bubbles. The nose is delicate, with beautiful mousse, lemon, peach blossom. The palate is so refined and elegant - light mousse, apricots, lemon, some faint aromas of toast; the finish is long, elegant, with hints of vanilla that complement and not overpower the fruit. Such a complex and enjoyable wine - paired perfectly with Petrossian Beluga hybrid caviar.

Since I'm one of those odd people who somewhat prefers champagne on the young side, this seemed like a perfect time to try the recently released 2012 vintage. I've seen a few parallels drawn to 2008 for this one, but to be honest I'm not seeing it (at least comparing both at release). This was fabulous in its own right, but just didn't have the depth of 2008. On to the good stuff! The 2012 leaps out of the glass with fresh granny smith apple, Bartlett pear, and lemon pith aromas complicated by fresh flowers, crushed limestone, bread dough, and a slight hit of woodsmoke. The palate has excellent energy and tension with a laser beam of acidity and long lasting flavors of lemon pith and crushed stones which ring out for 45+ seconds. A lot to love here, and for my palate the freshness and cool nature of the fruit is particularly attractive. The 2012 is still coming together in bottle and in a year or so should settle in nicely and be able to age for decades. Perhaps the 2008 was a little more developed upon release, but I think the 2012 will ultimately be a slightly leaner version. Which to me, isn't always a bad thing. Excellent bottle of champagne, regardless. Top marks.

Purchased off the list at Kukio for $170. PNP. Nose is citrusy with a brioche element. Silky and creamy palate, slight orchard fruit notes, Burgundy like, very elegant and effortless with no hard edges. Very refined bead. Acid starts to show on the back end and finish. Very tasty.
Aromas of orange peel, apricot, green apples, smoke, salt, hazelnuts, sour milk and bisquits. Rich, complex, fresh and sligthly bitter. A great champagne 🥂

Opened in the backyard for FIL's 90th birthday celebration, enjoyed by all, this shows what a great champagne can be. Perfectly put together with big structure, lively, persistent mousse, orchard fruit, almond, toast, and crushed rock on a mineral driven finish. Best champagne I've tasted.

Accessible and generous of fruit. The dosage feels high or perhaps its fruit sweetness? It has the usual Dom toastiness and it has creamy richness. bead is fine, flavour intensity good and length excellent.

Mini Dom Perignon study (Chicago, IL): What the comparison of this with the 2008 boils down to is a stylistic preference question. The 2012 is a generous, exuberant wine, showing a much more intense fruit profile than the linear and intensely acid-driven 2008. For current drinking, I prefer the 2012 (and that was my favourite this evening) for its more exuberant fruit and generous breadth on the palate. A rounder, more complete wine, at least at this point. But for aging and the long haul, I'd put my bets on the 2008.

Pale lemon. Delicate and frothy mousse, still very young. Med+ intensity of green fruit notes, pear, green apple, some almond, pastry, brioche, and floral notes, honeysuckle. Not overly tart, very balanced. High acid, med+ body. Great flavors and mouthfeel. Definitely holding off from opening next bottles for at least a few more years. WOTN for me. 93-94++ pts
Lovely bubbles and nice body with all the usual yeasty toasted brioche notes. Will only get better with age, but already totally quaffable. Wish I had a bottle to pop every week.

Charity Wine Function for Whatcom Hospice House (Samish Hill, Bellingham, WA): This is a great vintage for DP. Really nice in its youth like the 2008 was, and like the ‘08 it will probably shut down hard in a year or so. Autolytic bready notes, scents and flavors of a bowl of assorted citrus fruit and apples, and that typical Dom Perignon smoky reduction. Incredibly long finish. I loved it.

Arrival check up to see how this latest release turned out. Expressive nose, boom, in your face with lemon zest, marked brioche, oak, some white flowers. Very youthful and frothy on the palate, light and elegant (almost too light?), aromatic finish. Reminds me of the Krug 167 which is also light and fragrant but understandably so as it was built on the difficult 2011 base. This is 2012 and most 2012 I had, show greater density than this Dom. It does not have to be a disadvantage but it is a bit as a surprise after having tasted about 25 different vintage Cuvees from the key houses and growers. For example, even BdBs from Larmandier-Bernier, Agrapart Suenen show more weight - not even talking about the Pinot kings, Pol Roger, Bolli, Clos des Goisses... Anyway, that's it for now. A good Dom but I would give this another five years in the cellar before opening. Once mature my score may turn out to be stingy.

Dense, eventually revealing citrus, orchard fruits, white florals. So light and lithe, with tantalizing acidity and elegant mouthfeel, opens up beautifully over 90 minutes. A bit surprised this was so light bodied, we probably should have decanted since it was drunk over a short period of time. At peak in 20+ years if I were to guess.

Pausing for the Cause 2022 (Chicago, IL): After declaring the 2008 the best Dom in a generation, a new contender has arisen. Served next to the 2008 tonight, it seems that this younger wine is just drinking so much better. A little bit of the classic Dom reduction followed by lots of bright apple notes, as well as a little bit of pear. Very full and complete, in contrast to the slightly more structural 2008 alongside. As an aside, the 2010, tasted later, probably should never have been made.
Is Dom Pérignon getting easier to drink young? In the past I have found it too shrill on release in most vintages and needing a number of years to settle down. While this 2012 obviously is very young, the pinpoint mousse and delicate toast make it delightful already. Lots of green apple and pear and not overwhelmed by lemon. Drink it now, drink it in a couple of years or wait a decade or two; you can’t go wrong.

Mostly Domestic Wine Dinner (The Capital Grille at Tysons corner, VA): Intense nose displaying pure concentrated white fruit, lemon curd, candied lemon, crisp apple, brioche, honeysuckle, sweet spices and crushed rocks. Exceptional concentration, layers upon layers of pure concentrated white fruit, very fine generous mousse, rich and sweet but also pure and precise, perfect amount of acidity and mineral, and the finish that last over a minute with honeysuckle at the end. We recently discussed the 08 vs 12 where I was the only one who expressed a preference for the 08. I thought the 08 was more elegant and pure, i.e. Chevalier vs Batard. This particular bottle displays the perfect balance and seems purer than the precious bottle. Clearly more concentrated, but also seems as pure as the 08. Incredibly showing. I highly recommend to catch it now as it is incredibly delicious like drinking a great young white Burgundy.

brief impression as this was served at the beginning of a more socially-driven evening, bottle opened 45 minutes prior to serving
as with prior more detailed notes this is a very well rounded Dom that is very broad and delivering with equal excellence all of Dom's great hallmarks, the slightly sweet tendency was not on display this evening, roasted walnuts, toast, ever so slightly sweet apple notes, pear, a hint of orange peel, honeysuckle, lime acids on the long finish checked by the substantial mid-palate flavors carrying forward, as this begins to cream out it will get even better- but for now this is showing itself more generously than any other young Dom I have had save for the 1990 which was also an undisputed beauty from day 1, even the lovely and precocious 2010 needs more time at this point- but make no mistake, the 2012 has an even greater future ahead and will contend with the 1996 and 2008 as one of the greatest vintages of our generation.

Purchased, brought home, chilled and served. Initially closed, tight and reductive. Time and a little swirling brought out the Peach, Lemon, Apple, white stone fruit, and the brioche you expect with DP. Lots of acidity to keep things fresh, with that flinty stone nose and palate. Maybe not as big as the '08 or even the '06, which I still prefer, this is a superior DP and I'm guessing will be compared to some of the best vintages over time. Too young and not enough time to rate.

Very user friendly vintage of DomP - plenty of fruit but held in better balance than say 2002. Less expressive reduction/gunflint than recent releases. Very unusually this drinks quite well right off the bat, doesn't really seem to need time to unfurl.
I'd say this is an improved '06/'09, and clearly way better than the '10, but not in the same league as the otherworldly '08.

The 2012 Dom Perignon has a wonderful intensity and elegance that is already expressive on release. Powerful fruit concentration and phenolics with the classic clean and smokey seashell reduction on the finish - in my opinion the 2012 is even better than the 2008 Dom Perignon. Aromatically more Pinot-driven with persistent freshness and subtle zesty notes. Drink from 2024-2048. (94/100)

Truly outstanding vintage a bit more intriguing than the 2008 when it was released. More open but restrained. Light golden / straw color, nose of brioche, flowers, stones, honeyed citrus. Great lift mid palate and very fresh, yet finishes exuberant and long. Real complexity there.

Napa Trip - Trying new wines and meeting new people; 4/11/2022-4/12/2022 (Napa): As a person who does not enjoy bubbles more often, I enjoyed this very much. Clean yellow fruits, pleasant toastiness and a nice minerality on the nose. The palate is quite similar but with the addition of something like clean honeydew melon (or some sort of melon). The bubbles in the mouth feel pretty fine which was quite nice.
Another excellent vintage of Dom. By comparison to the 2008, this seemed bigger and more flamboyant. Both have a lot of acid and need time, but this seemed more layered and complex at this point, and the 2008 was more chiseled and precise. Both amazing examples of Dom up there with the 1996.

Pronounced nose intensity with bread, yeast, mineral notes. On the palate and mouthfeel, can almost instantly feel the difference and identify Dom Perignon style. Comparing 2012, 2008, 2010 and 2009, 2012 and 2010 are similar in style. 2008 very acidity and probably need more time in the bottle. While 2009 is good for drinking but not as delicious as 2012 or 2010.

Justin's let's try a lot of daily drinkers dinner (The Capital Grille Tysons, VA): Expressive nose displaying incredibly concentrated rich yellow and white fruit, granny smith, lemon curd, strong brioche, white flowers, pepper, sweet spices and strong limestone mineral. Exceptional concentration, layers upon layers of perfectly ripe yellow and white fruit, very fine generous mousse, rich and opulent yet perfect balance and beautiful detail, perfect amount of acidity, strong mineral, and a seamless unbelievably long finish with brioche and white flowers at the end. Justin prefers this over the 12. I slightly prefer the 08 for the elegance and finesse which I have never experienced in any young Dom Perignons. The comparison is identical to the 08 vs 12 Cristals, perfect balance vs incredible concentration, perhaps Chevalier vs Batard. The 12 combines the 02 and 08. My first 12 Dom Perignon and I am a believer.

For the 08 comparison chasers, the 08 DP was better on release, but the 12 still showed incredibly well, and Dom showing well on release is still a pretty rare occurance.
Mildly reductive on PnP with generous notes of orchard fruit, zesty lemon, and clean minerals. Love how fleshy the 2012 is and it’s so easy to love. Certainly one that I’ll be buying multiples of.

Pale color, lively mousse. Strong scents of herbs and wheat. Light, lean, dry, and mineral. It certainly delivers on the stone and savory front, but is it too tart and green to flesh out and eventually come into better balance? Tasting this for the first time, I'm not sure. It does not help to have had the supernal 1996 last night just by chance for comparison's sake.

OMG...I don't think i've ever had a corked DP? As soon as I smelled the cork...DAMN! The cork smelled really bad of tca, the wine smelled clean in the glass, yet very muted...and the taste was a shell of the first bottle I had couple months ago. Don't know if Bevmo will take back corked wine...I really don't want to deal with that...so I think I'm just going to drink it...it's not terrible...and chalk it up as an unlucky first.

My first encounter with this lauded vintage and the performance is already quite stunning. This is much more open and approachable than the 2008 was on and shortly after release. Despite its youth, the layerdness and precision are quite astounding already. It is clear, however, that this will be much better in 10 and 20 years with additional tertiary complexity and especially much more softness. One to buy and hold.
TN: Quite inviting nose with bakery and brioche notes, lots of herbal and earthy/mineral aromas, fine lemon scents. Medium expressive only but depsite being young alteady quite complex and with a high precision. Same picture but more expressive and complexity on the palate. Lots of bakery and minerality, mixed with lemon and additional aromas of white flowers and honey. Very high precision, medium body, a quite high but round and well-integrated acidity, fine mousse, but of course there are rounder and finer Champagnes out there and DP will need a more time to edge out.
Decanting: Not decanted, followed over a few hours with little change. No decanting necessary at this point.

The 2012 Dom is a pleasure-giving success, offering scope for immediate drinking like the 2006 or the 2009, but possessing (in my opinion at least) an extra richness and intensity of fruit character which has been absent from recent vintages - including the closed and austere 2008. The nose shows intense white flowers, marzipan and a reductive-mineral impression over notes of both crisp, highly malic green apples and lightly stewed bramley/cooking apples. The palate shows superb punch and vigour while remaining poised and harmonious. The wine’s mercifully tempered acidity remains understated through the midpalate before emerging to cleansing effect on the finish. No excessive austerity or mouth-puckering sourness here. Marvellous. 94-95.

From refrigerator temp tasted out of grand cru champagne glass. Color: pale gold with lots of fine bubbles. Aroma: apple, pear, baking spice Palate: very vibrant medium to medium plus acidity. Alcohol is well integrated. Lemon zest, Meyer lemon, possibly apricot.
Aroma opened up over the night with some floral notes. Wine got a little more concentrated as well. We actually prefer the 2010 vintage over this. The 2012 has a lot of vibrancy but doesn’t have the “drinkability” of the ‘10.

The reduction, the autolytic bread and the sheer depth of the nose - this is really a fantastic reason to get interested in Champagne. Some red berries. And the aged apples from the chardonnay. Had next to Comtes 2011 and while that wine offered an even more impressive reduction, almost like a Puligny Montrachet, and tendency to whipped cream (which I believe will increase with time) the blanc de blancs hallmarks are perceptible also in the Dom Perignon cuvee but offers a broader experience for the moment.

A very pretty surprise given the latest release and this is is singing from now and do not feel is a short lived one either. Impressively welcoming, very polished and with a bit more toasty side to the usual "young" DPs. Of course the usual bright and energetic side is there and so is the elegance. An impressive wine and an easy 94+ even this young

Drank on NYE paired with a Western Australian lobster tail. The stemware used was Grassl Mineralite. Cork was popped approximately 45 minutes before the 1st glass was poured. Temp ranged from approx 46-55 degrees with the best notes/taste a little cooler than 55 degrees. Below 50 degrees muted out some of the flavors.
The color was a mediumi gold. The nose had minerality and a hint of citrus fruit. The palate was of lemon, lemon rind, pear and minerality. The wine has good acidity and a slightly creamy mouthfeel with medium length.
I think this vintage of DP is a tick behind the 2008, which is one of the best champagnes I've experienced in recent history. I feel like the 2012 is a little out of balance and will greatly benefit from some more time in the cellar. I'm in no hurry to try my next bottle.
Score 94+ today with 96+ easily in its grasp in a few years.
Happy New Year!

Really great, expressive nose here with a really pretty mix of apple, pear and vanilla. The palate has minerality, lemon and just a bit of creaminess. Delicious now and will age fabulously. Wonderful vintage of DP.

Light golden and sporting a brisk tiny bead, the 2012 vintage of Dom Pérignon has all the makings of greatness. Beautifully aromatic, it flaunts an intense bouquet of nectarines, Bartlett pears, marzipan, brioche, cardamom and wet stones. Medium-bodied, vibrantly acidic and with a mousse that is creamy yet energetic, it delivers flavors mirroring the nose, adding notes of citrus and ginger on the solid mid-palate and lengthy finish. Absolutely a joy to drink at this young stage, it will get even better with a bit of cellaring. Drink 2025-2042.

Has the brightness of lemon citrus pucker like the 2010, yet more richness with subtle vanilla and caramel creme...chalky limestone minerality like the 2008. Not as brilliant and in perfect balance right out the gate like the 2008...but a huge improvement over the 10 imo. Such crystalline fruits...youthful energized bubbles explode on the palate, then falling back on the finish like a snowflake (ala 08). Wonderful saline minerals and pretty blossom florals...precise and worthy of the DP magic. Will definitely want some of these in the cellar!

Great champagne. Better than 2009, but not quite at the level of the 2008 at this time in my opinion. Unfortunately haven’t been able to try 2010. Acidic, but not overly so. also citrus on the palate. Overall very good and easy to drink but will definitely benefit from some time in the bottle.

Not a very strong vintage for DP. 2002, 2004, and 2006 were great. 2003 was rather bleak. 1995 and 2009 were average and maybe 2012 is heading in the same direction. Just barely starting to open up so my judgement could be premature, but neither the acid nor the palate showed any signs of greatness.
2012 typical nose after oyster shell, toast, refreshing acidity, citrus, well drinkable at the moment. Dosage between 4-6g/L. I preferred against 2010. 96
2010 more reluctant compared to 2012, some exotic fruits, makes fun to drink it now. Not the potential as 2008. 93
2008 Still great to drink. Lush, exotic fruits, sea breeze, balanced, powerful, still fresh. Roasted almonds, salted caramell. 98
P2 2003 Feels broader than the P2 2002, less acidity, lots of mango and pineapple, less oyster shell than 2002. 94
P2 2002 more acidity than 2003, but my problem with this wine, it has an unnecessary high dosage. 95
P2 1998 More complex and structured than 2002 at the moment, some nice honey notes to give depth and creamieness. 96
Rose 2008 The nose is full of red berries and red apples, some black currant. A sublime champagne which will be released next week. Raspberry sirup but still elegant and powerful. 97
Rose 2006 For a 2006 good but no chance against 2008. Maybe a hint too alcoholic and the finish too short. 94
P2 Rose 1995 PN nose, comparable to a Musigny, smoky, flinty, balanced, at least 10 more years. 97
P3 1992 Unbelievable fresh, toasty, citric and just a touch of rostaed aromas. Nice 1992. 96

bright light yellow color, beaming classic nose of roasted walnuts, ripe apples, pear blossoms and marshmallow with a hint of red berries, in June this was showing great promise with really stunning individual elements shining out, now on the palate the wine has harmonized brilliantly and promises to be one of the truly great vintages of this wine, where wines like the 1996 or 2008 have a particular aspect to them that helps them stand out- 2012 is the archetype, its greatness lies in an ideal presentation of all of those things we love in Dom Perignon and in perfect balance with each other, on the palate very open with medium to full body, ripe fruit, orange peel notes, roasted nuts, apple and pear, this reminds a lot of the 1990 for being well rounded- but this is bigger while also being more nuanced already plus having a more substantial acid backbone, glowing lengthy finish with lime-laden acids, the floral aromatics are exceptionally persistent on the aftertaste, as open and fully presented as this is right now- it is tempting to think it is ready to go, certainly it is approachable and worth enjoying now- but there is much yet to come here and I suspect this will be dazzling for the duration of the glorious journey ahead.
***(**)+! Yes a potential 6th star here as with the 2008, I do not have an exact count, but after 25+ years and thousands of notes I still have fewer than 10 six star wines. This is that good. Now - 2050+.
Dom Pérignon / Vosne-Romanée Tasting-cum-Lunch (Restaurant Slagerij De Beurs, Amsterdam, NL): Just released in the Netherlands (last Friday, actually). Fresh walnuts and initially a hint of coffee on the nose, much more tightly wound than the 2010, fresh and energetic but not as acidic as the 2008, lemon zest, midly reductive, noticeable bitters, very young but approachable.

I bought it when I saw it the first time for sale at Charles de Gaulle airport. I drank it, but it did not convince me yet. I was glad to read the professional tasters, and I'm happy to agree with them. Not open for drinking yet. Not at all.

Wine Diner (Ada St): First go around with the 2012 and this seems like an over-performer with abundant, rich, toasty, powerful fruit with classic Dom richness. Should age nicely, but Dom is so damn tasty young.

"Drink it while it's delicious" (Chicago, IL): I guess I'm one of the lucky ones who has gotten to taste this so early on. This is a fantastic Dom; not quite at the level of the 2008 but you'd really have to go back to maybe 2002 to find one of the same quality. This far surpasses the mediocre 2010. The nose has a hint of the classic Dom reduction, but it serves to complement the juicy white grape juice flavours here. The palate has good depth of flavour with a vein of acidity that is surprisingly 2008-like. The fruit is more white-complexioned than yellow but is generous and gives this wine good breadth. I don't buy every vintage of Dom, but this one seems worthwhile. Definite upside potential.

Pours light lemon in the glass. Fine mousse throughout. Very subtle on both fronts, not giving away much right now. The acidity is not that high as expected from a top-tier vintage, but it will give this wine some decent potential still. Very young, still needs 2-3 more years to show.

light champagne color, generous well-rounded nose of citrus, marshmallow and walnuts, slightly sweet throughout- but not to the levels of 02 or 06, on the palate quite a contrasting impression- quite dry and racy throughout, up front a lovely open primary citrus fruit with just a hint of dark berries leading to a heavily mineral bridge with saline notes over the substantial but reluctant mid-palate and finally a long lean finish with an exceptionally fragrant aftertaste, I would not describe it as disjointed because it is a very attractive drink and pristinely balanced- but at this early stage there are a number of exciting elements each doing their own thing to some extent, a plethora of interesting elements that add up to a great Dom- but need a little time to harmonize, overall I would call this well-rounded but not necessarily classic just yet, it defies any attempt to closely compare it to prior vintages, for my part I would call it a slightly bigger and more exciting version of the 2004 with just a touch of the sweetness of 2002 plus dark fruit and mineral elements that are quite singular in terms of the potency of their presence, despite being a bit all over the map at present- this grows on you, not only for the great potential that is obviously there but for the indications it will be a more unique path than usual, this needs time to settle down a bit but I do think it will be in its prime well before the 2008 while having a similarly positive outlook for great longevity, time will tell, but I am already confident stating this belongs in the very top tier along with 1982, 1985, 1996 and 2008.

Way different than the 2 glasses I had last July.

Knockout nose of roasted hazelnut oil, fresh, sweet brioche and toast. The palate is light in its feet, but loaded with flavor. Rich and I tenderly nutty with roasted hazelnuts, membrillo and lemon/lime
Zest as well as some oyster shell minerality and a long, complex finish. Excellent, but I’d love to taste it again in 5-10 years. 96

20s maybe but will become more quaffable than intellectual.

pale gold color, on this third tasting two years since the first bottle - the wine has quickly harmonized beautifully, soaring nose of roasted walnuts, pear, apple and marshmallow, on the palate it is less obviously sweet than before and remains a magnificent Dom Perignon not for any particular characteristic as in vintages like 1982, 1985, 1996 or 2008- but rather for being uniformly and evenly excellent in all respects, in this it now clearly most resembles the 1990, mousse and floral notes emerging after 2 hours in glass, splendid, entering a very long and glorious drinking window but note that tonight's bottle really only began to sing after 2 hours, and so right now I would strongly advise either decanting this, or opening 2 hours ahead.

Champagnes and Burgundies: Intense and rich, but curiously quite a thin body which made it come across as bland. Guessed a weaker vintage like 2014/15. Didn’t have the signature reductive notes but after a couple of hours the gunpowder notes made it obvious that it was a Dom.

Pronounced on the nose with lemon zest, pear, peach, green pineapple, nougat, toast, chalk, brioche, toasted hazelnuts. Developing.
Pronounced and dry on the palate. High acidity, medium alcohol, medium minus body, long finish.

Effortless clarity, there’s structure and this wonderful acid core but it’s just giving enough now that you can truly appreciate it. One of the most emotional wines of the lunch, if one can say such a thing.

Tasting note:
Lightly toasted notes of brioche and bakery with a distinct pear and green apple fruit, all on top of a broad mineral base. A herbal dimension and almond slivers. Intense palate, fresh with lots of tension. Promising, even if not as impressive as the Cristal 2012 at first sight.

Surprisingly, there's a slight tinge of tropical fruit (pineapple) today, but I found it adding interest today. Really goes to show how much of an outperformer the 2012 is.

Top marks.

Beautifully ripened melon, some stone fruit - awesome mousse. Super mouthful, and great finish. Excellent at this stage!

Aroma: apple, pear, baking spice
Palate: very vibrant medium to medium plus acidity.

At Dom Perignon Hautvillers
Blanc 2012, 2010, 2008, P2 2003, P2 2002, P2 1998, P3 1992
Rose 20008, 2006, P2 1995
2012
typical nose after oyster shell, toast, refreshing acidity, citrus, well drinkable at the moment. Dosage between 4-6g/L. I preferred against 2010. 96
2010
more reluctant compared to 2012, some exotic fruits, makes fun to drink it now. Not the potential as 2008. 93
2008
Still great to drink. Lush, exotic fruits, sea breeze, balanced, powerful, still fresh. Roasted almonds, salted caramell. 98
P2 2003
Feels broader than the P2 2002, less acidity, lots of mango and pineapple, less oyster shell than 2002. 94
P2 2002
more acidity than 2003, but my problem with this wine, it has an unnecessary high dosage. 95
P2 1998
More complex and structured than 2002 at the moment, some nice honey notes to give depth and creamieness. 96
Rose 2008
The nose is full of red berries and red apples, some black currant. A sublime champagne which will be released next week. Raspberry sirup but still elegant and powerful. 97
Rose 2006
For a 2006 good but no chance against 2008. Maybe a hint too alcoholic and the finish too short. 94
P2 Rose 1995
PN nose, comparable to a Musigny, smoky, flinty, balanced, at least 10 more years. 97
P3 1992
Unbelievable fresh, toasty, citric and just a touch of rostaed aromas. Nice 1992. 96

bright light yellow color, beaming classic nose of roasted walnuts, ripe apples, pear blossoms and marshmallow with a hint of red berries, in June this was showing great promise with really stunning individual elements shining out, now on the palate the wine has harmonized brilliantly and promises to be one of the truly great vintages of this wine, where wines like the 1996 or 2008 have a particular aspect to them that helps them stand out- 2012 is the archetype, its greatness lies in an ideal presentation of all of those things we love in Dom Perignon and in perfect balance with each other, on the palate very open with medium to full body, ripe fruit, orange peel notes, roasted nuts, apple and pear, this reminds a lot of the 1990 for being well rounded- but this is bigger while also being more nuanced already plus having a more substantial acid backbone, glowing lengthy finish with lime-laden acids, the floral aromatics are exceptionally persistent on the aftertaste, as open and fully presented as this is right now- it is tempting to think it is ready to go, certainly it is approachable and worth enjoying now- but there is much yet to come here and I suspect this will be dazzling for the duration of the glorious journey ahead.
***(**)+! Yes a potential 6th star here as with the 2008, I do not have an exact count, but after 25+ years and thousands of notes I still have fewer than 10 six star wines. This is that good. Now - 2050+.

At a trade tasting. Bottle opened 2 hours prior.
light champagne color, generous well-rounded nose of citrus, marshmallow and walnuts, slightly sweet throughout- but not to the levels of 02 or 06, on the palate quite a contrasting impression- quite dry and racy throughout, up front a lovely open primary citrus fruit with just a hint of dark berries leading to a heavily mineral bridge with saline notes over the substantial but reluctant mid-palate and finally a long lean finish with an exceptionally fragrant aftertaste, I would not describe it as disjointed because it is a very attractive drink and pristinely balanced- but at this early stage there are a number of exciting elements each doing their own thing to some extent, a plethora of interesting elements that add up to a great Dom- but need a little time to harmonize, overall I would call this well-rounded but not necessarily classic just yet, it defies any attempt to closely compare it to prior vintages, for my part I would call it a slightly bigger and more exciting version of the 2004 with just a touch of the sweetness of 2002 plus dark fruit and mineral elements that are quite singular in terms of the potency of their presence, despite being a bit all over the map at present- this grows on you, not only for the great potential that is obviously there but for the indications it will be a more unique path than usual, this needs time to settle down a bit but I do think it will be in its prime well before the 2008 while having a similarly positive outlook for great longevity, time will tell, but I am already confident stating this belongs in the very top tier along with 1982, 1985, 1996 and 2008.
