decanted 1 hour and 15 minutes after opening. Apparently fragrant some 1 hour after decanting, but by the time I tasted 2 hours after decanting this was not showing at all. A little better after 3½ hours in the decanter. Still got the tannins, with smoky, grilled meats, and some mint on the nose. Pretty disappointing.

Red fruit, pure, still fresh on the fruit and decent acidity, reduced, roasted/burnt meat and pepper still, verging on burning rubber. Oak still not fully integrated. Each element is clear and pure, but hasn’t developed to the point of harmonizing. Well done but misses greatness

Served blind, and I took it for a top-Bordeaux of a certain age A dark wine with chocolate and tobacco, very vertical, almost majestic, still some tannins left, but drinking a point IMHO. Still a great concentration and certainly no harm in aging it further, if one prefers. From HSA #FogheadsInTheGarden

Decanted for a good hour. Not much evolution. 5 years since we tried this last ( Papies 92) and although it definitely shows a more elegant feel but far away from what we expected from this wine. Lacked the smoky soft spicy character and generally lacked an exciting side to the level of a La Mouline. Was very good but just not La Mouline good. 92

200 Burgundy Grand Crus from vintage 2000, 4-day blind tasting (Singapore): Pirate bottle. Earthy, lighter structured, elegant, fragrant, drink up, good complexity here but not top drawer. 94+
