Well there we go, it's gone. Colour not as faded as you might expect. Nose was outstanding Cabernet cassis, almost a touch sweet, palate a bit tea like with still noticeable tannins. A wonderful experience.
Good color, most at the tasting thought old Bordeaux, 70's. 82, 85, 86 ? the color was that good! The nose overwhelming leather and screaming left bank. Drinking this wine was very easy to do, wow an experience. Served blind with an 82 and 87. Thank you Manfred!
This bottle was so beautiful to look upon, even from the outside. With a little effort, I got the cork out in two pieces and it had a very good seal on the bottle. Right away the aromas wafting from the bottle were wonderful. There was an overwhelming aged tobacco leaf scent, also cassis, fig, and ripe plum. There was a nice spice box aroma as well. In the glass- sub-standard glass I might add, I should have brought my own- the wine was pale red velvet. Later it actually darkened and had a clear edge to it. The initial taste brought a surprise of cool plum/mint liquor. Very firm- it is a 1945. There were also tastes of sweet tobacco/fruit and cassis. I noticed a slight smell of just rained on asphalt. The finish came a little short, but, overall I had a great experience with this bottle and could imagine bottles out there being even better than this one. I cannot wait to open my other bottle, as I believe them to both have been stored perfectly.
