Bordeaux 2022 en Primeur and some recent vintages: Those who know the 1982 know what potential this wine has. For a long time however, Pichon Baron was more reliable. Since 2011, the Philippe Moreau is technical director and it has moved upwards steadily. The 2020 and 2022 were world class today. Aromatic depth paired with graceful elegance. Especially with the 2020 (97pt) I was amazed that it has no sign of heaviness. The 2022 (98pt) was even more refined, my WOTN.

Bordeaux 2022 barrel tasting event (Papiersaal Sihlcity, Zürich): Main takeaways: 1/ Despite a considerable amount of hype, this came across as bi-polar vintage with for every insanely good wine at least one dead-on-arrival counterpart. 2/ High alcohol levels, over-extraction and cooked fruit appear to be common pitfalls. 3/ Top wines were 1. Figeac (98), 2. Brane Cantenac (97), 3. Les Carmes Haut Brion (96). Full list of 20 wines and scores in included in the tasting story.
Tasting note: Ripe but still elegant and detailed nose with a broad range of spice, herbs and iron-like minerality complementing the mixed berry fruit. Unfortunately also marginally alcoholic. The palate is in good balance with soft tannin and plenty of structure.

With an inky, dark, garnet hue, the wine asks for a bit of coaxing before its leather, cedar, spice, flowers, truffle, mint, currants and dark cherries show in the perfume. The wine is pure silk on the palate. There are no edges or corners. Everything feels in place. It is completely seamless. The wine is pure, fresh, and expansive. The mid-palate picks up its currants and plums, while the finish holds them in place, and expands in all 4 directions, with perfect balance in its 60-second plus finish. This is the best vintage of Pichon Comtesse ever produced! If you have the extra money, this is the wine to buy as it will provide dividends for decades as it ages and evolves. The wine blends 78% Cabernet Sauvignon, 17% Merlot, and 5% Cabernet Franc. 13.65% ABV, 3.80 pH. The harvest took place September 6 - September 27. Yields were 30 hectoliters per hectare. Only 50% of the harvest goes into the Grand Vin. Drink from 2027-2065. 98-100 Pts.

Bordeaux 2022 barrel samples and some additional vintages (Solliden in Stockhom): Elegant and concentrated. Very easy to like this young. Right after the first impression of dark berries, there is a second taste that is lifting everything up a bit further.
Best out of 33 Bordeaux primeur 2022 tasted.
97-99

Medium+ nose intensity with notes of black fruits, black currant, flora. Youthful. Medium+ acidity and medium+ finish. High tannin. EP tasting.
