At the end of a 6 hour session, but man was this good. Everything you want and expect from a high-class 40 year old Bordeaux. Beautifully resolved with mostly red fruits, tobacco, earthy goodness. This bottle had excellent provenance and it showed. Beat my expectations. Outstanding wine that's in the perfect window to drinking now.

This Pichon Lalande is at its peak, brimming with tertiary nuances yet still flaunting a vibrant core of fruit. The structure remains robust, making it a delightful to drink now. It's a quintessential Bordeaux, enhanced by the rich fruitiness attributable to the notably warm summer of 1983. However, akin to many from the 1983 vintage, it began to diminish with prolonged exposure to air, despite the bottle's excellent fill level.
TN: Expressive and alluring, the nose features tobacco, black truffles, dark fruit, and a refreshing minerality. Clearly defined and quite inviting. The palate is equally compelling, dense, and substantial. It unfolds complex layers of truffles, herbs, dark ripe fruit, and earthy notes. The tannins are finely integrated yet maintain a robust grip. This wine exhibits good freshness and is exceptionally well-balanced, delivering a harmonious and satisfying experience.
Decanting: Quickly double decanted to remove the sediment. Consumed 90 minutes later, which worked perfectly. The longer it sat in the glass the weaker it got. Hence, I would only double decant this right before consumption.

This bottle was absolutely singing. Still pretty deep color, sone purple with slight fading towards the rim. Aromatic slightly tertiary and ripe, with cassis, dark flowers, menthol, some eucalyptus, black cherries, some tobacco, cigar box, graphite, lead pencil and some forest floor. It's full bodied, deep and powerful, with medium+ tannin, and medium+ acidity. Long finish. A superb Pichon Lalande and a textbook mature Pauillac.

Tasted blind. Fantastic nose of red fruit with a little dark fruit as well, touch of greeness, led pencil, forest floor, very good complexity, Clos Rougeard style almost. Elegant palate, an old style Claret at its best. Elegant, fragrant, long.
