This has matured into a top class Bordeaux, and makes a mockery of its slaughter by the critics on release. I would advise to pop and pour with the wine, or at the very least, 30 minutes in the decanter. As mentioned in my previous note, the Cabernet Franc is really strutting itelf with prominent bell pepper notes with red cherry and cedar, and really reminds me of Cheval Blanc, in spite of the Cabernet Sauvignon. The nose is exceptional and deeply aromatic, and undoubtedly is the best feature. However, the rest of the experience is tremendous, with a lighter finish preventing a higher rating. 95+

My favorite of my wine club's recent tasting of 2000 Bordeaux. Beat out the likes of Palmer and Leoville Las Cases. Wonderful forthcoming nose. Cab Franc perhaps a little obvious with it's vegetal character. Drinking at peak and open for business.

Brambly fruit and strawberries on the nose, with quite a rich attack of the same, very winsome and initially very impressive, but that's it. It never really got out of second gear. Some have bemoaned a certain greenness, but for me, if anything the opposite was true. I could have done with more crispness, a fresher middle section and, well, less jammy flavours. Fine with food, but on its own, it was just not very interesting and a bit stodgy. 92 points for the lovely start.

Opened and let air in glass. This was in really nice shape, but I sensed it is best to drink between now and 2028/29. We did not decant, and in retrospect it might have been even better if we had.

Deep red purple color. Initially a little sulfur but this blew off quickly. This proved to be a lovely, complex wine that was well balanced with a long finish. Aromatically there was an early hint of bell peppers followed by mint, black cherries, and Asian spices. The wine was young and energetic. It was consumed in a flight with the 1989 Lynch Bages (which also showed very well), the 2000 Lynch Bages and 2000 La Conseillante. The latter two were complex interesting wines but tight and clearly need more time. The Figeac was the first or second choice of the majority of the tasters in this flight.

Figeac 2016 - 95+ Beautiful nose of blueberries, cedar, and violets. After 30 mins in glass some green notes. Elegant, bright, and pure fruit with amazing acidity that gives a nice drive through mid and back palate with a very long aftertaste. Of course, this is early, but it shows great potential. This grew for every minute over the 1 hr I had it in glass and by the end it was very drinkable, although I would hold it for at least another 10 years.
Figeac 2015 - 93+ Just a little less of everything compared to the 2016, but a great wine. I'd say the 2015 is a little more extracted and blind I would've said it was from a warmer vintage than 16 without knowing if that is true or not.
Figeac 2010 - 91 Not decanted, which probably was not in its favor, and opened later than the younger bottles. At least 10 years from peak. Quite muted compared to 15 and 16 but some tertiary aromas of truffles and cigars showing. Tannins still have a real bite. I would guess this was just the wrong night for this bottle.
Figeac 2000 NR I don't know, this was volatile and had a lot of pyrazine/very green notes. Others liked it though, so it was probably a bottle thing. Of course it had some mature bdx-charm but this is not what I'm looking for in an aged bottle.
Petit Figeac 2019 - 91 Attacking, blue/black fruits, plums, bell peppers, dry tannins, and some bitterness (from oak?) in the end. Not my preferred style, but quite straight-forward and drinking.

Final excepcionalmente largo. Un vino tremendo.

From DbMg.Wild, wild stuff, easily WOTN. Rich, concentrated, but certainly balanced with chocolate, herbs, tobacco. Well rounded and very long. A complete wine. #Schur

This wine seems to have two groups of thought: (1) only good and too lean and (2) very nice, classic but not great. I’m firmly in the later camp. Opened 6 hours before drinking. Ruby color that is showing some initial maturity. The Cabernet Franc is certainly present on the nose, but opposed to the harsh profile of the Detert consumed last week, this wine shows herbaceousness married with cinnamon, red fruits and crushed rock. I find this very complex with enough sweetness to bring a smile. Swampy. The palate is mature, medium/light bodied and reasonably deep. No, this is not monumental. Yet it is not a lean, uninspired wine either. A great match with roast chicken, I will drink remaining bottles over the next few years. (93)

Beautiful big nose on opening - spicy and herbal. Taste was very left bank… pauillac Pichon Barony. Savory with lovely structure. Then over time turned fabulously vampiric. Blood blood blood. Not for the faint of heart! Fabulous Bordeaux at a good evolution.

Brought me back to the days when Cab-Franc heavy Bordeaux showed off it's pyrazines! Also very savory. Beautiful ash-tinged resolved tannins. At a horizontal of 2000 Bordeauc. Showed very well but a couple attendees detected a bit much brett

Excellent.

Papies at 30 (The Waterside Inn): One appreciates is at a great event (or hosting one) when the wine to close is a Figeac 2000. An impressive wine and just about getting into its full stride. Very much herby, minty, soft spice and a medicinal edge ( not a bad one) on the nose which rushed and attacks the senses. Full on in many ways but maintaining a balance and elegance. On the palate it is there but its also young and has a lot more to go on the evolution of the fruit side. An impressive wine nonetheless and one we hope to cross paths with in the future too. 96

Decanted and followed over a few hours. Complex nose with earth and berry fruit. Tannins are integrated here and this is drinking very well right now, though it has plenty of life ahead of it. Very good.

This really has developed into something special. Medium claret, lovely cassis nose balanced with wood. All the claret flavour is there with superb length. As always with the best of Eric's Figeac this is more Medoc than Libournaise. It can last but no need to wait

Richness, barnyard/funk , grand cru , smooth , and very nice. Better and better the further we drank into the bottle. Needs 3-4 hours of air. Will finish the bottle some time over the next few days. Drank over the next few weeks actually , held up well. Nice treat.

St. Emilion night (Chicago, IL): After a suspected bout of covid, I think my palate shifted towards riper, bigger wines, with more expressive fruit. Figeac, which I think I historically quite liked, no longer really fits the bill, as I found this a little too light and lean thanks to the pronounced pyrazines on the nose here. With food and air, this does fill out a bit (and I definitely enjoyed it more later on), but that relatively thin streak does detract from this wine.

20 Vintages of Figeac (1985-2019): All wines tasted blind. A few observations: 1) Compared many other right bank peers, Figeac never fell into the trap of producing very high ripeness/high extraction wines. The low(er) Merlot content plays a role, but the wines clearly speak of a conscious decision of not going there. But in the 2000s the fruit profile is darker and only more recent vintages go back to the beautiful bright red fruit. 2) The hype is real: The level of greatness this winery achieves since the 2015 vintage is stunning. The complexity, delineation, purity and textural depth are miles ahead of what the company produced before. 3) Figeac shows that it is among the 15 best wines produced in Bordeaux today and considering the En Primeur prices, probably only Montrose and Pichon Lalande have an equally good value proposition in this top group. 4) Winner was the 2019 (97pts) with an unmatched purity and depth, ahead of the 2015 (96pts) and a stunning 2018 (96pts) which tells a lot about how well they coped with the hot vintage.
TN: The first vintage in the lineup with rather dark ripe berries at the center. On the palate there is fresh blue and black fruit, some smoky minerality again, herbs. Missing a bit of charm and aromatic balance. The tannins are noticeable, the acidity is pronounced but overall the balance is still ok but not great.
Decanting: Not decanted, an hour should be enough here.
Chateau Figeac - 35 year vertical tasted blind 1985-2019: Served next to the 1995/96 duo and had the clear edge. While it is not a home run in 2000 this wine had quite a few things to put on the table. Complex nose with farmyard, forest floor dark fruit. The palate did not have the green streak which I discovered in previous samples. Good fruit core, carried by medium+ tannins. Can be drunk now with a short decant. 95+

LMD 21.11.22 2000 chateau Figeac. Initially slightly musty on pouring. On palate silky tannins very present. At the beginning of its drinking window, fruit evident. Exceedingly complex with layers of fruit and tannins. Will be even better in three to five years time 2025-2027. Served slightly too cold. JN

Mineral, smoky oak, and dark fruit bouquet. On the palate, it has a soft fruit entry and a mature Cabernet-like character rather than Merlot. Interesting “left bank” character rather than typical “ right bank” St. Emilion. Beautiful drinking today, but has the tannins to hold several more years.

It's taken 22 years, but it was worth the wait. Two years since last tasting an untainted bottle, and the interim has transformed the wine and makes a mockery of the abysmal critic ratings given at release. The Cabernet Franc has become very prominent, and it almost has a Cheval Blanc profile in spite of the Cabernet Sauvignon. The nose is aromatic and dominated with bell pepper, cedar, tobacco and old leather. The palate is now displaying surprising maturity with resolved tannin and secondary notes and is the highlight of the wine. The finish is good but does not quite meet the rest of the experience and is a little unbalanced.

I have owned and stored this Magnum for nearly 20 years. I chose it for our dinner with friends Keef and Arty at our favorite restaurant, Chez Francois where we dined on Wagyu Beef Cheeks, Rack of Lamb and Chateaurbriand. An amazing evening that lasted 3+ hours and culminated with their signature Soufflé. This bottle was decanted and the sommelier and I agreed that it was youthful in color, showing no bricking- just a clear, deep ruby color. With a touch of air in the large decanter the nose was stupendous. No notes were taken but I can say that it was all there. Cassis, leather, tobacco, cedar, blackberry, black cherry. The tannins were so well integrated and the acidity was en Pointe. The mouthfeel on this wine was exceptional- balanced to a tee with fruit, structure, secondary and tertiary flavors and aromas- the whole lot. It is drinking at its prime now and will last another 5-8 years methinks. If you have it in 750 ml, start consuming it sooner rather than later. A stunning, smooth and delicious Right Bank Merlot that was worth the wait. 95 points from me. If you can find a regular bottle it will run you $250, a Magnum would be roughly $600. Drink this beauty with friends for a very special occasion.
Russk. I brought to Villagio with Brad and Suzanne. Not much decanting. It was a WOTN, but not the WOTN. A lovely Right Bank, with plenty of earthy and barnyard notes. Pretty full-bodied and could still go another 10 years. 92- pts.

Figeac vertical: My contribution, thought this was the 1997. A little green and not as structured as I would have liked, lacked the balance of the 1997. Apparently there has been some bottle variation in this vintage. Also read that some believe that the unripe qualities will integrate but I find it hard to agree based on this showing. Would have thought Chinon on this if completely blinded.

Medium red, hints of brick orange. A fair amount of Sediment. Opened an hour before drinking. Tightly wound at first - tart cherry, ample tobacco. Mellowed with time and cherry ripened and tobacco mellowed to cedar and better overall balance. Lots of life left in this.

Second Sunday Group: 2002 Burgundies (R&D's): This was double decanted about six hours before service. Lovely nose of red berry fruit, perfume, iron and tobacco. The fruit follows on the palate, along with green pepper and cigar tobacco. Medium tannins; lingering finish. Gorgeous. (AS)

Mid-Aged Cabernet Sauvignon Lunch (Mostly Double Blind) (Pixca - Highland Park IL): Double blind from magnum. Cassis, current and blackberry with lots of power. I thought this 2005 left bank Bordeaux. Firm and backward for now, but lots here, better in another 5 years, probably even better in 10. 91 points today, but I think more harmony will emerge with more time, so 92 point potential.

The 2000 Figeac was sensational and by far the most exciting wine in a recent right bank tasting of 95/98/00/01. It was spikey and feral with a riveting green overlay an emerging tertiary complexity, and it had a terrific finish. Eric d’Aramon, who got his marching orders in 2012 after failing to secure an upgrade to Premier A status, was roundly criticised by some of the critics (no need to name them) for picking his 2000 too early; but he really nailed it. Drinking this makes me worry about my recent purchases of 2016 and 2019, which may have been Rollandised.
Dark violets, wild cherries, and other dark fruits. Big rich sweet dark fruit flavors. Concentrated and dense, yet balanced and yummy fruits shine though as well. On the younger side of the drinking well, Drinking beautifully.

Graphite, pencil lead, wet earth, smoke. Oddly for a st emillion, quite a bit of leafy, green Cabernet notes. Refreshing, light on its feet with a dangerously alluring mid-palate and seductive black cherry, cedar and liquorice finish. Tannins totally melted, this seems like it’s in a great place right now with no obvious scope for material improvement. You’d be completely mad or entirely indifferent to the utility of £200 to buy this now, but this is a terrific wine. 95

Beautiful medium ruby colored with some garnet edges. In the nose soft and fine notes of ripe cherries, mushrooms and truffle. On the palate red cherries, blackberries, wet forest floor, mushrooms, green bell pepper and some nice herbal notes. I love these beautiful tertiary notes. Medium bodied with a fine and medium intense acidity. Somehow this feels very left bank style. Tannins are polished and integrated beautifully. Amazing complex structure and a fantastic overall balance. The finish is super long and very elegant. An amazing wine, which has all you’re looking for in a 20 year old Bordeaux. I had around 20 different Figeac vintages in the last couple of years but this one really kicked my mind. This is in a great spot right now, no need to wait any longer and no decanting necessary. This has moved up a notch in the last year, and is starting to drink at its peak. You still could be forgiven for thinking you were drinking a left bank Bordeaux and it is very different in profile from other St Emilions of the vintage. The nose and palate are driven by green bell pepper, tobacco, and cedar. The tannin has really sweetened over the last 12 months, and the previous harsh mouthfeel has now been resolved. The finish is exceptional and pushing 60 seconds and is perfectly balanced and with an extraordinary depth. 94+

This is one of my all time favorite wines. I have had the pleasure to taste this wine three times over the past decade. I spotted a bottle of Figeac on the shelf of a Midtown wine shop recently and scooped it up. 2000 is nearly perfect wine with silky tannin's and hint's of bell pepper. Drink up.
Did a blind tasting with 7 friends with Bordeaux 95-05 theme
2000 Pichon had smoke, meaty, toast, spices, blackcurrant, medium+ acidity and tannin. Decant for 3 hours.
2003 Pichon had cassis, spices, black fruits, medium+ acidity and tannin. Decant for 2-3 hours.
2002 Haut Brion had floral, spices, red/black fruits, medium+ acidity and tannin. Rounded in the palate. Slow oxy for 4 hours.
2000 Figeac had a wet forest, mushroom, spices, vanilla, medium acidity and medium+ tannin. Double decant for 2-3 hours. Had opened up due to the decanting.
WOTN was 2000 Figeac, followed by 2002 Haut Brion, 2003 Pichon and lastly 2000 Pichon.
It was a surprise to see such weaker vintage 2003 Pichon picked over strong vintage 2000 Pichon. My opinion is that 2000 Pichon had not entered its prime drinking window and it's best to store and aged it further.
BBQ @ Arcadia!: I guessed this to be a 100% cab franc, as the green pepper notes were forthcoming which i enjoyed a lot. Lean, structured and spicy, the fruits are fairly resolved already. This is classic Bordeaux in many ways. Open sooner than later.

A year since last tasted, this is pretty much in the same place. It possesses a deep aromatic nose, but now with sterner notes of tobacco creeping in. Green bell pepper and tobacco dominate the palate, and while perfectly balanced and lengthy, the finish is very robust and almost austere. It is very untypical of the right bank wines from the year and you could be forgiven for thinking you were drinking a good left banker from 1995. It is definitely in its early drinking window and secondary notes are prominent, but I still hope it will settle further with aging. All in all it is a very enjoyable and interesting wine, but I am starting to understand why the critics got it so wrong on release.

(1, wine 9) Very earthy, slightly pedestrian, clay? Lacks length, 89. (2) Sweet and sour style, lifted, vegetal, unknit, lovage, raw, unpleasant, 88. Two very different notes, but it is clear that there are problems here. I also refer to my 2014 note.

The 2000 Figeac is a little bit quirky, showing lots of fragrant pencil notes, smoke, musk, and cherry. The character is terrific, but the nose lacks the requisite depth to mark it out as really special. The medium bodied, agile palate further reinforces the notion that these are for drinking now.

Mixed reaction from the group. Some really loved it others felt it lacked a bit of substance and this seems reflected in the notes below. No doubt it is a Figeac in that it is more Left bank than Right. The nose is wonderful and enticing. The flavours are all there but it is lacking its usual lick of warmth. Let's see how it develops over the next few years

This has really moved through the gears during the last 2 years, and is firmly in its drinking window. It is puzzling how the critics got this so wrong back in the day with some rating it in the low to mid 80s. The nose is deeply aromatic with mature dark fruits with green pepper and graphite, and without doubt is the best feature of the wine. It is displaying secondary characteristics on the palate and has great depth and balance, but I find the finish a little challenging with a tannic wall which I think will be a permanent element. All in all it is a highly enjoyable wine, which is ready to drink with a few hours in the decanter. 93+

Brought to the SWG checking in tasting. This was much better than I expected. Double decanted about 24 hours before -- then a bit of slow ox (about 6 hours) the next day. Lovely complex nose of green pepper, forest floor, some dark fruits. Palate was equally complex and approachable. As someone said at the tasting, I could sit and smell this wine all night. A very nice showing. While I don't think this is on the downhill curve yet, I am not sure it will develop to something greater than it already is -- which was pretty great.

Out of 375. Fair amount of chunky sediment came out after being stood for a couple days and run through a coffee filter that picked up minimal fine sediment. Double decant and tasted after ten minutes.
Nose: Black plums, subtle plum skin, mixed with soft hay and barnyardy notes. Not a funky wine but enough to keep it interesting. A little cherry fruit poking through.
Palate: black cherry, cherry pits, tobacco, some cigar box. Fluid but silky mouthfeel. Balancing acidity, but not a refreshing wine.
Structure: a bit of spicy but mild heat. Sweet and slightly grippy tannin. finish is mouth coating and lengthy with black cherry, cherry pits and some bitter tobacco.
Overall I would characterize as dark plums, a dollop of black cherry, with a fair bit of bitter tobacco on a silky wine dark and slightly spicy finish.

2000, Château Figeac, Saint-Emilion. Leuchtendes Rubin.

I’m a big fan of Figeac and have tasted this vintage many times over the last 7/8 years but the last two bottles ( this time a magnum ) have just not hit the mark . Perhaps just a stage the wine is going through but despite double decanting 6 hours prior to tasting there was a very powerful acidity and therefore not quite the balance and power of some previous bottles .

No. 169550. From half-bottle. The nose here has a mild bit of pyrazine, followed by some maturing fruit. Mildly leathery and dusty, with clear development of secondary characteristics on the nose. This doesn't seem as fresh and vibrant as I remember it being, but this has been maturing nicely. I imagine this is on the cusp of some full-fledged secondary development (in half-bottle), so I would hold this for a few more years to see this truly blossom.

Note: I use a scale on which 85 represents a very good wine.
First, this wine improved meaningfully following a 2 hour decant and improved during the hour in which we drank it. Next bottle will definitely get 3 hours.
The wine itself was quite pleasant, well balanced, no hard edges whatsoever. I did not find the tastes to be quite as pronounced as others did, hence the 89 rather than 90+. Sometimes I winder if I am too stingy regarding the 90 rating or it may be that I am not as sensitive as others are. So be it.

Classic right bank nose of crushed flowers and earth, this wine is at early stage of a drinking window that should run 5-6 more years. Impressive weight in the mouth, but not yet quite in balance as flavors fight a bit for turf. Drink in 2022-25.

The nose is restrained but nice. In fact, it is the same in the mouth. Beautiful, linear fruit. The tannins are somewhat present but nothing disturbing. Excellent but not the best Figeac I have had. I prefer 1998 and 1995. The day after, the empty but not rinsed decanter smells nice, not at all disjointed and dead, which is what happens for wines which are approaching their end. So, it has at least a few years of life ahead.

This is a wine in the likes of the great 1990. A steal in comparison, but it still requires patience. Lots of upside from the violets blowing off the cabernet franc. Lovely but not ready....Hold with upside.

Didn’t decant, really didn’t need it in our opinion since it was from 2000…. So, the color is deep opaque blood red in color that has not faded to a different color around the edges.
Nose: Plums, strawberries, cherry, green pepper in the beginning. It ends with floral notes, mushroom and a burnt match. It smells great!
Taste: Light mouth-feel, plum, licorice, cocoa, cloves and spice! Still strong tannins and a solid backbone. Still shows youth after 18 years. Nicely balanced from beginning to end.

From half-bottle (169559). Pretty much as good as I remember it being. The nose has a good dose of menthol, as well as a nice green herbaceousness that doesn't feel over the top. There's a fair amount of fruit here as well, in the form of ripe plums. The palate is elegant and lean, perhaps a little thin in the context of the vintage, but to my own taste, just right. Fairly elegant, with silky tannins, this is drinking very well. The secondary characteristics are still emerging, but in small format, I find this ready to go.

Gravel, clay minerality, with pressed cherry skins, wet tobacco, mint, exotic spicy notes; super silky, elegant, tangy, fine ample tannins with a killer spicy long finish; later got more wet leaves, dried raisins, more glycerin as it breathed. Really good. With Frederic Faye, winemaker. Notes: One of the largest estates on the right bank, same family since 1892, whole cluster; The planting of roughly 1/3 each CS, CF, M started in the late 1950's after the 1956 killer frost.

I have to disagree with some of the other tasting notes here, but I opened a spectacular bottle last night at the Symphony of the Americas dinner at Pier 66. I opened this next to a bottle of JP Insignia 2004 and the comparison was stark. The Figeac opened quickly and had an elegant floral nose. After 1/2 hour it was drinking nicely and complemented our steak dinner perfectly. The wine was ruby in color with a good amount of floral bouquet with lots of dark fruit and a nice long finish. The insignia in a side-by-side comparison was sweet, but I preferred the Figeac especially with food. BTW, I recommend drinking this now because it as at its peak!
My friends and I have agreed for years we think Parker got this wrong. It gets better and better each time. Classic St Emilion, will try to hold off on final three for a while
Chateau Figeac Dinner with Frederic Faye (Farr Vintners London): I would have really liked not to share Bob Parker's view on this wine, but I just have to hand it to him - he did nail this one in the end unfortunately scoring it mid 80s. The 2000 Figeac is really not a great wine which became evident side by side the 2004. It is very herbacious / vegatal, so green, I could not unfurl the fruit. Suggesting this is "not ready" yet is wrong in my view, this just won't blossom in my humble opinion. Weirdly enough I have had consistently underwhelming experiences with 2000 Bordeaux lately (Leoville Barton and Lagrange being the others - I have only felt that Pichon Baron made good on the high esteem the millennial vintage is generally held).
Pretty darn tasty right now. Good depth and fruit, medium finish and some oak that lingers. Not a powerful wine, yet it has enough to balance stronger foods like stews and roasts.

Possessing a beautifully aromatic nose, with wafts of fresh berry fruits, on the palate the wine is initially smooth and almost opulent with great balance and depth. However a wall of aggressive tannin suddenly appears and carries on through to the finish. Although surprising and unexpected, it does balance and is not unpleasant. However, it does disappoint after the initial promise.

No decant, and the sediment was heavy as a result. Cedar, plum, some smoke. Somewhat austere, with green notes indicating less than ripe fruit. Not sure time will cure all ails here.

Saint Emilion 2000 vintage: 15 years in bottle (Grill Room at the Rosewood): One taster gave it 98 points, while two others could not get past the green notes. When I first tried it, I liked it quite a bit, but it was not as impressive as it was back in 2005, when I had organized a similar 2000 Saint Emilion tasting with many of these wines. Still, the soft expressions, tertiary aromas and damson-like sweetness proved endearing to me. Yes, with some green pepper (former director Eric d’Aramon, in a Figeac vertical a few years back in Washington D.C. admitted to having picked the vintage “too early”), but that did not bug me as much. While I was far from 98 points (I gave it a solid 93), I did enjoy it – and pictured myself enjoying it over the steak that I ordered for later.

Comprehensive 2000 St Emilion Blind Tasting (The Grill Room at the Rosewood DC): Wine 1 - Fully mature nose displaying milk chocolate, plum, mint, cedar, lead pencil, noticeable green, unripe Cabernet and leather. Medium concentration, bitter, iron, austere and a medium long slightly bitter finish. It is the least concentration and most ready wine of the night. My guess is that it is one of the lesser chateau. A couple tasters really like it. For me a disappointment considering the pedigree and vintage.

I wanted to love this, but I could only get to 'like'. This is lean and green, reminds me of an soft vintage of my beloved Sociando Mallet. When first opened, the fruit and concentration were good, but with air, this got increasingly lean. Not much complexity either. I usually like wines further into the bottle, but not this one. At $50 I'd like this a lot more, but it's more like $120 these days and that's hard to justify. Hold (?).

5th time tried from my cellar. A decent wine, but not outstanding. I have never found the vegetal characteristics that others have which makes this wine so controversial. Cherry red inn color. Nose of cocoa and minerals. Not as much fruit as prior bottles, but last one tried in 2012. Chocolate, beef blood, leather and minerals on the palate. Liked prior bottles more when some fruit was showing. Drank this side by side with a 99 and a 90 and the 90 was the best of the bunch. I tend to think that 2000 Bordeaux is overrated based on my experiences.

Medium bodied with a well integrated profile. Still showing ruby red, I would start to drink these as they will decline from 2020. I wish there was more power and lasting back end to the wine.

Tog den utan tvekan som en St Emilion. Mörk mogen frukt, piptobak, lakrits, höstskog. Ett maffigt och kraftfullt vin som ändå har en fin elegans och strålande struktur.

Opened, poured into a decanter to remove sediment, and the followed over three hours. Served with food (roast rack of beef, in case you were wondering.) Earthy notes of leather and mushroom. Flavors lean to the savory side. Shows some plum, but mostly beef blood, leather and lead pencil. Enjoyable and nicely balanced but not quite outstanding.

Cacio - getting there but still tightly wound and needs a good 5-10 years to strut its stuff. Package of currants, plums, graphite and healthy dose of tannins.

Half-bottle 169552. This is as brilliant as I remember it. The nose has a touch of leather, dirt, and menthol. There's a bit of fruit, but it is very much restrained. The coolness of the cabernet here is perfectly counterbalanced by the ripe fruit on the palate. There's plenty of acidity to keep this very fresh as well. The tannins are not too coarse anymore, and are well on their way to resolution, at least in this stocking-stuffer format. A touch earthy and very classical. A proper right bank wine.

My third vintage of Figeac (1998, 2000 and 2007) and my second try of the 2000. Had a pour of this early 2016 and it was very closed, but by now this is quite open and shows a lot of fresh fruit with typical dirt and barnyard notes. Very good balance and excellent harmony. Very good now, but surely even better in 5 years or so. Close to full bodied.

{Graciously poured by DH/BB at their dinner party with chicken tagine; bought on release by DH, Pop n Pour} Great red color, no bricking, nose just jumps out at you; on palate tar, complex black fruits, some coffee, very big and long, some burnt leaves, just delicious and complex and long. Best St. Emilion I have had in years. Great showing. This bottle still has years ahead of it.

High tones (flirting with VA) nose of green peppercorn, essence of (i.e. loads) of cedar, fresh cut flowers and tanned leather.
All black fruits initially on the palate. Mid-weight style with layered fruit, stone and beautiful fine tannins. Gets better and better with air and some red fruits also show through. If drinking now give a good breathe.

The fruit has clearly faded and I feel this wine is past it's prime, although still enjoyable. The nose is musky, perhaps a bit of cork taint. On the the palate there is ripe fruit flavor left, just predominately leather, mushroom, green pepper, and earthy notes.

Half-bottle no. 169556. There have been many comments about how the 2000s are shut down right now, but based on a large-scale tasting half a year ago, and this bottle, that is simply not true. Simply put, a brilliant St. Emilion. The nose shows a clear herbaceousness, and while it isn't green pepper, it's definitely green. As well, there are some lovely sweet black fruit notes, and this shows a bit riper quality to it. For the first time ever, I've picked up a bit of chocolate on the nose as well. The palate's sweet fruit is coupled with a fair bit of acidity and a creamy texture. No harshness at all, this is a very silky and svelte bottle of Bordeaux. If I could nitpick, it's that the heat does poke out a little bit at the finish.

Classic Figeac. a rough blend in equal parts of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Cabernet Franc. I believe this unique blend gives it that herbal quality, rather than loose selection of green fruit. On the contrary, this is distinctive, well balanced, with so much structure and complexity, yet currently integrated and early prime pleasure, with plenty in the tank for later. Splendid. With Michel Rolland now consulting, (and with a second wine) it should be interesting to see if we'll encounter this type of Figeac again. This 2000 is beauty, herbal rather than green. Unusual to have such a high does of Cabernet Sauvignon in St Emillion, and less tun 35% Merlot. Drink now with a few hours of decanting, or hold and follow over the next 5 - 15+ years. Made under Comte Eric d'Aramon, not on the level as the 2009 and 2010, nevertheless, this is outstanding.

There is a green edge to this with bell pepper. lead pencil shavings, barnyard funk and perfume. Very complex and evolved. Nice finish with leather, sour raspberry and cedar notes. Integrated yet lingering relatively fresh tannin. Silky. Better in a few years.

A beautiful example of Chateau Figeac, with distinctive cedar and tobacco notes on the nose and in the mouth, where the cherry and red currant fruit is still remarkably pure for a fifteen-year-old wine. The cab franc brings a slightly green edge to it, just as I expect from the Figeac. A savory, bright wine, a real favorite of ours.

2/12. Decanted 1 hour. Medium/deep ruby/garnet core, pale garnet rim. Nose is youthful, cedary, ripe cool blackcurrant fruit, touch of vanilla. Medium bodied, yet quite generous and layered with soft tannins, blackcurrant fruit, slight savoury/leathery edge, touch of smoke, lovely bright spicy acidity with some bright red fruit showing on the long, harmonious finish which has a touch of moist earth on the tail end. Excellent, showing quite well but with plenty of time in hand.

Popped corked and sniffed... Is there is a faint hit of TCA here?? However I smelt bottle and immediately it is Figeac :) Decanted and while there remains some possible low level cork taint or certainly mustiness it nonetheless has the tale tell signs of Figeac that I love: Christmas spice, lightness of touch, very gentle oak, gravel, pencil lead and shavings, very cab franc, very fresh. Wonderful..... But not quite right. Lets give it time and food, whatever is causing the mustiness might blow off. A little later and with food and this is definitely corked. My reluctance to write off a £100 bottle of wine made me hesitate but unquestionably corked, especially after trying a cling film in another glass - which cleared up the TCA quite well but also clipped a lot of flavour. It is actually quite enjoyable and I almost don't want to seal up the remaininder to try to see if I can return it.... so classicly Figeac, but this is corked :( ... Thinking about it later, this actually proves how good Figeac is. If I go away for 5 mins and come back it is obviously corked but once used to that the wine is very enjoyable, shows itself so well and changes quite a bit as Figeac does, but then put the glass down for a few minutes and it's TCA and the same journey all over again. Yet the fact that it is distinct and that its complexity still shines through is a testament to the quality.

UWS (@ JB): Lush bouquet with ripe fruits, some spiciness and bell pepper and at first some barnyard impressions which bow off. On the palate a slightly sweet start, ripe fruits, some chocolate, a firm dose of good oak and slightly sticky tannin which is a bit drying. Puberty stage now. Will improve with a few more years of ageing. Would like to taste again between 2020 and 2022 to see if it has real ageing potential. (until 2100 as it is in CT now seems just a bit optimistic ;-))

Very elegant, if not classical right-bank Bordeaux, but I guess you don't buy Figeac for that. Silky smooth tannins that are now nicely integrated. Medium body and medium to long length. Nose of red berries, cigars and leather. Lovely wine.

Decanted for 3h. On the nose musted tobacco, faint fruit. On the palate more tobacco and cigar box, subtle and smooth. Raspberries and cranberries oak and earth. Restrained as other previous notes have indicated. Everything is well integrated and the tannins have resolved. Very nice but not a lot of power at this stage.

Beautifully balanced and elegant Bordeaux, if lacking a little sizzle. A subtle nose blackberry with a slight leathery tinge gives way to a caressing palate with a medium finish. Delicious and perfectly ripe, but didn't blow it's away. Decanted for 2 hours and definitely opened up. Drink now or soon.

Disappointing. Had an 00 before and loved it but this was nothing like it. Nose was barnyard and funky which faded and was interesting. Also there were some floral notes on the palate that had me guessing a Morgon Gamay (drank it blind). Palate was quite thin and finish also thin. Zero tannin and limited acidity. Vegetal. Shocked by the lack of structure.

13% abv. A lithe wine. Seductive nose of violets, tobacco, spice and garrigue. Nose was very strong and enveloping. Body was lighter, and subtle compared to the nose. Overall, pretty and fragile. Not sure if it warrants the tariff though.

Popped and poured and was dark red. Very slight bricking. The nose just shot out of the glass of berries. The palate was very nice and I didn't pick up any of the vegetal notes seen in other posts. This wine was good and went well with the triple cream but I was underwhelmed considering this vintage. I wouldn't wait on these.

Birthday and Mother's Day wines; 5/10/2014-5/11/2014 (Rocknroller's (Kevin & Vicki's Place)): Very dark red color. Decanted for 3 hours the day before and resealed over night. Slow-o for another hour before serving today. Drank 2 glasses over 2+ hours. I intended to bring this to dinner last night, but I wasn't happy with where it was at even with 3 hours of air. It was quite tight and showed a woody character that had me a little concerned about provenance as well. So i made the decision to bail and revisit today. And an excellent decision it turned out to be. I was somewhat amazed by the development overnight of what was a completely tight, austere, wooden wine into a bright berry filled pleasure. The nose had a dry earthiness, graphite, dark fruits, dust, cigar box, and a nice floral quality. The palate was medium full bodied with great structure, very appealing dusty tannins, earth, lots of graphite, crushed rock, dried dark berries, huckleberry pie, spice and some now integrated oak. I'm left with the impression that this is still quite an infant and needs considerable time. There has been a wide range in reviews of this wine and it could be bottle variation as well, but it sure appears to me that if you have stash, I would be inclined to lose these for 3-5 years. I would have given this maybe 87pts after the initial 3 hour decant.

Was wondering if the bottle is flawed and couldn't believe this is a from '00 vintage. A disappointing bottle with strong green notes right at the open - green pepper and stems. Finish also carried a bitter note. The fruit is there but this profile should only exist in a cold year/rainy harvest, but not one like the 2000?

From 375. I get the prominent herbal, green pepper others have noted. Sweet cherry and leather notes on the finish. Medium bodied with decent ripeness. The tannins in this are still pretty prominent at this stage. I enjoyed this, but the green notes are going to be a polarizing feature of this wine.

The Cab Franc elements are pushed right to the fore on this wine with a massive whack of leafy fruit underpinned with crunchy tannins. Excellent complexity with dry soil, pepper and touched of menthol Very impressive and drinking well right now. Not as full and plump as a lot of the 2000s. Impressive.
2000 Vintage which is starting to get in the drinking zone. For me a average glass of wine. Decent fruit and the wine was balanced. Nothing earth shattering. OT liked alot.

I think this wine is a good example of 2000 bordeaux. Dark, brooding almost, yet fruity with balanced tannins. This would be sensational with food like a beef roast. Still has some time ahead of it as well. Bordeaux nose but I get no green pepper. Graphite, lead, forest floor, all of that but no pepper.

this wine is still new and has potential to improve. the nose is vegetal, earthy, herbal and a lot of green pepper. this wine is very silky with some very smooth tannins. the palate is very complex with a taste of herb, coffee, caramel, crushed stone and and after taste of dark chocolate. i really like this wine. but if you like something fruity, this is not for you. i should have spent some time to decant it. i still have 1/2 bottle left and let's see how it will evolve. and good that i still have another bottle and i will lay it down for at least another 5 years.

13% ABV. Initial strong, hot nose of green peppers. After around 5 hours in a decanter the wine is starting to balance out a bit. A couple of hours later notes of raspberry, graphite and sour cherry. Elegant and refined palate and a medium finish. The vegetal component doesn't disappear though, it just integrates more, so if you're sensitive to those sort of flavors look elsewhere. Seems like the Cab Franc is quick to wake up but the rest of it needs to air. Probably should aim for 10-12 hours decanting time. Given that it seems likely this will improve considerably with further cellaring. For now I'd say I wanted to like it more than I did. Edit- day 2. The pepper flavors have softened even more and become a little spicier, with some meaty aromas. Upgraded to a 91. This wine needs a really long time, but I am finally starting to really enjoy it. It's no fruit bomb though, so it's not a great surprise Parker hates it. Edit- later on day 2. Damn! I can't stop upgrading this note! The wine is on its last glass and is comfortably a 93 now. I'm glad I have some extra of these; I'm going to decant the next one 24 hours ahead of time.

Parker has downgraded this wine to 85 due to the vegetal character. There is for sure a green pepper note (next to earth and spices) and yes, it is clearly not on the fruity, opulent side which RP likes. However, whenever I serve this wine blind during a tasting or with food it does really well and gets many thumbs up (btw, it was strangely even more spectacular when young). Why? this wine has highly, highly complex aromas and is soft and delicate to drink. So think of something like blue cheese for example, yes many people may not like it, but nobody will say it is boring (like Gouda or Emmental). Where Parker is right, and this is no secret in Bordeaux either, Chateau Figeac has together with Cheval Blanc and Ausone the best terroirs of the entire appelation but the Figeac Team only makes a so so wine. Time for someone more ambitious to take over this estate... 93-95
Opened and decanted around 4PM, consumed around 8-9 PM. On opening, a little sniffy-sniff, no problems. Once poured, a pronounced, offputting squashy/vegetal note. Maybe a bad bottle, but my guess is this is just a bad wine. If you have some, pop & pour, as extended airing did this no good.

4th time tried from my cellar. Popped and poured New Years Eve with prime rib at home. Still don't find the vegetal characteristics (as some do) that makes this a controversial wine. Mature cherry red. Nose of cherry and crushed stones. Light, but ethereal palate of raspberry, chocolate and crushed stones. In my view, ready to drink and not likely to improve. A nice wine.

Part of a Figeac vertical of the 1962, 1995, 1999 and 2000. Bought this earlier this year for $100. Decanted for 8 hours. Dark ruby red color. Aromas of leather and pencil shavings. Firm tannins. Notes of dark cocoa, tart dried blackberries and oaky underbrush. Full bodied. Dry mouthfeel on the finish. Very good complexity for a wine this age. Also liked this better than the 2003, 2005 and 2009 vintages that I had on release at the UGC tastings. 94 points.

Opened this bottle as part of our central jersey CT group along side a 1975 Figeac. Although the vintages were separated by 25 years The noses were very similar. On the palate the 2000 was more vibrant, with the tannins still strongly in place with a bit of tobacco and well balanced fruit.

the bottle was generously shared by cjs at our central jersey ct offline tasting. he made this selection after i told him that i was bringing the 1975. we both marveled at how similar the two wines were despite 25 years between vintages. of course, the 2000 was much more youthful and vibrant, but the fruit and earth components in both were unmistakable. i agree with others that the 2000 has a certain greenness which will hopefully subside as the years go by. i also agree with others that the wine seems to be maturing more quickly than one might expect given the vintage. enjoyed by all. thanks, cj.

1/12. Opaque ruby/garnet core, medium pale garnet rim. Nose is very youthful still, showing sweet blackcurrant fruit, notes of vanilla, floral overtones. This is quite full bodied on the palate, broad and soft across the mid-palate with sweet, soft tannins, ripe black and red berry fruit, hint of spice and slight note of leather, lovely acidity and an extended sweet fruited finish. This is excellent and will improve.

Very herbaceous on both the nose and palate. A good wine with impressive structure, balance and layered of flavours of black currants, stemmy plum, dry leaves, soy sauce, dark chocolate characters. It has a good level of density with sublet tannins too. Particularly attracted to the nose , and also to the savoury plum and mocha-like bitter long finish. I believe this is still on a backward stage and with the impressive balance and its dense and structured body, will only only get better for few more years in cellar.

New year gathering at G's house: Alcohol :: 13% En Magnum. I have no idea with the previous two bottles, herbaceous and lack of intensity and structured. However, this magnum is totally different and absolutely gratifying. As one would expect, the 2000 Figeac is still very restraint, on both nose and palate. However, the class and scale is there. Very intense aromas of blackcurrant, plum, cedar, leather, capsicum and smoke, the focus and complexity is absolutely remarkable. Started off shy, but slowly opened up in the bottle. Stunning concentration, depth and wonderfully delineated. This multi-dimensional Figeac offer fabulous purity and harmony on the mouth which expand on the palate effortlessly with excellent grip and tension. The medium level of very fine but firm tannin needs time to be fully integrated, but the massive richness and concentration here completely buffered it and the structured. The finished just goes on and on. Delicious. 93

Chateau Figeac Dinner - Organized by Panos Kakaviatos, featuring Eric d'Aramon (Ruth's Chris Steak House - Washington DC): This wine opens with nice herbaceousness – driven by black currant, green pepper, and green olive – but the wine soon became too vegetal, and reminded me more of rotting vegetables and spinach. That said, underneath the herbaceousness one could find dark fruits, blackberries, dark slate, and mocha. On the palate, the tannins were noticeably aggressive. I’d love to revisit this one in a decade to see if it evolves into something more pleasurable to my palate.

Chateau Figeac dinner with Mr. Eric d'Aramon (Ruth Chris - Washington DC): Starts with a hint of green but quickly becomes very vegetal. I find strong presence of pyrazine bothersome a a la 2004 burgundy. Black fruits, mineral, caramel, coffee and tobacco. The palate displays medium concentration and slightly bitter. If you like chinon from a cooler vintage, you may like this wine. If you palate agrees with Bob or love upfront plush fruits, avoid.

When RP downgraded this wine, I was very happy because it meant I could buy more for less. I've probably tasted this 20+ times over the last three years and every bottle has been enjoyable. The nose is displays green pepper notes with plenty of mocha, dark fruits and earth. The palate is silky, well balanced and the tannins are quite integrated for a 2000 at this stage. The finish is medium with plenty of coffee notes. While this wine will probably be shorter lived than right bank 2000s, it is enjoyable today and will be for plenty of time.

Earthy nose with clean blackberry fruit and slight almond+cedar accents. Beautifully integrated tannins an long finish. Drinking perfectly well and will last another 8-15 years. But why wait?

I gave this wine a score of 94 in November of 2009, and it has improved to a lights out beauty. Drinking this just puts a smile on your face. Killer st emilion nose of exotic spice with an earthy feel. In the mouth, complex rich fruit and terrior that lasts thru the finish with soft tannins.

2000 Bordeaux Retrospect: Alcohol :: 13% Bottle 2. Opps, the nose showed even higher tones of eucalyptus and herbaceous note that framed the inner core of sweetness. This has very good integration and the tannin is so smooth and silky that seems absent from the wine? Long, sweet juicy finish with roasted herb dryness at the end.

2000 Bordeaux Retrospect: Alcohol :: 13% Bottle 1. Ringer? Such herbaceous aromas with roasted herb, angelica root, eucalyptus, can this be a Coonawarra cab? The entry is soft with sweet fruits and freshness, quite rich on the palate with soft structure that accumulated slightly better weight and power on the finish with eucalyptus aftertaste. Pretty good and this too is pretty approachable with its soft texture and feminine style, though I don’t really like the flavour profile.

A great bottle, hitting on all cylinders. Slow o'd for three hours, decanted one hour. Deep red with bricking at the rim. Plum, cigar box on the nose, dark fruits and chocolate on the palate with a woodsy note, very well integrated and well structured, long and clean on the finish. Great with food, great alone, a very strong showing.

Interesting evolution over several hours in the decanter. Earthy on the nose and somewhat chocolatey on the palate at first, it morphs into a well-balanced, clearly Cab Sauvignon driven wine with clear fruit over time. Only thing knocking it off-balance a bit is a little heat, both on the nose and palate. Deep purplish color. Drinking well now, and will be good for a number of years to come. Lovely wine overall!

Decanted 3 hours. Showed and dark ruby color and soft, velvety texture. Flavors of dark berry fruit, floral herbs, and woody notes combined with soft tannins. Overall, a very polished wine that is drinking very well at the moment.

Leather in the nose, then fruit - primarily ripe cherries. The tannins have melted (almost), the acidity is still there. Good architecture. But a cool and slightly restrained experience. Classic - but is our taste changing? This type of wine five years ago were fantastic to drink, real experiences. Now they appear almost to be too cerebral. But then again - a classic you will always come back to. And we're so glad we have almost a whole case left.

I now know what Robert Parker is talking about regarding an herbaceous streak in many vintages of Figeac.Tasted along side eight other 2000 right bank wines, the herbaceous quality really stood out. Perhaps the relatively high % of Cabernet Sauvignon in the blend is responsible. Tasted by itself, usually with food, I find Figeac to be a very elegant, understated wine.

Figeac vs Las Cases: the big guns (Washington, DC): Vintage Figeac but also classic 2000 BDX. Brooding, large in scale and very distinct in terms of its delineation of cepage. You can begin to feel the Cabernet Franc emerging from its adolescent slumber, offering wonderful notes of ripe bell pepper and exotic verve. It adds crispness and alacrity. The Cabernet is also present, asserting itself with solid tannins that aren't obtuse nor flabby but round notes of cassis. Classic seminal Bordeaux that demands patience and rewards accordingly. The merlot is a bit more reticent; the bottle lacks the exoticism that one finds in the 98 and 05 but that is likely down to vintage characteristic. This wine is built for the long haul but has been kind enough to show us what it is made of. Classique.

Opened and drank with friends on early Christmas morning at home after party. An excellent choice for the occassion. The other recent tasting notes are spot on. Wine is drinking now. Fine balance and good structure to it. Beautiful! Brings me to a place where I'm dressed in a thick velvet robe, snug in a familiar leather couch of an elegant manor, beside a smokey log fire, with a cigar in hand, sipping cranberry juice (it's Xmas, ok?). Unfortunately, not my favorite style of St Emilion. Old school and enveloping smoke. Hint of iodine (defect?).

Had the pleasure to visit Château Figeac a few days ago. After an impressive tour had the pleasure to taste the 2000 Figeac. On the nose, lots of green peppers, earth, tobacco. On the palette nice ripe fruit, tannins are smooth, good mid palette. Was hoping for maybe a little more. But nonetheless a great wine and I ended up getting a bottle of 2005 as I've heard great things and having already tried the 2000, the 2005 is projected to be better. Overall the 2000 is a nice wine and I wouldn't hesitate to also buy this one. Lots of life left. Good quality wine. Loving the St. Emilion wines.

This is super wine. This bottle started extremely tight on initial opening. It is glorious now on Day 2 after spending the night in the fridge. Deep crimson colour, very rich nose of some mint and coffee, luscious black fruits in the mouth with profound depth, and just incredible length on the finish. It's a pricey bottle and I've come around to thinking it's worth every cent. I would just strongly recommend a 12-24 hour decant. And serve slightly chilled; incredible how well this favours good Bdx.

So will give it the benfit of the doubt and say too soon. Reticent nose with some violets, stones and pencil lead. Fruit is present and fresh but still not harmonious with tannins. Yes, dark and earthy, but I would want some more evolution. I still have a case minus one to go.

Started off pretty dull and close. Very muted nose, offered only silky mineral, hardly detect nice fruits. Surprisingly came around with air time. Fruits started to picked up more and more, fine tannin, very well drinking. Should decant if one wants to drink it now.

Cabernet Comparison (Exton, PA): Retail purchase about 1.5 years ago. Decanted 45 minutes. Dark blue, slightly watery rim. Pepper and mint, forest and earth. Young and taut. Brambly and austere. Less fruit, more concentration. Quite distinct in the line-up of other Cabernet-based wines (granted this is 35% Cab Sauv, 35% Cab Franc 30% Merlot). The over-riding pepper nose and taste is a surprise. Very long, lingers and the pepper dissipates. Second day is a little mellower, but still concentrated. 2012-2028
I prefer the magnificent 2001 to this bottle at this point. Let's see again in a few years.

This wine is drinking beautifully now, but has pleanty of life. Smooth and velvety, but also complex, with dark earthy friut flavors.

ICCCW 2000 Bordeaux Horizontal Tasting (Jade Palace, Forum Galleria): This was lovely. Not quite as immediately charming as the Brane-Cantenac, but I think this has more in reserve for the long-run. Uniquely amongst the wines tasted, he Figeac showed Lovely Cab Franc notes on the nose, with high-toned asparagus, vine leaves and roasted green peppers. Very fragrant, almost like Japanese Kushiyaki Piment. This was mixed with very attractive cigar and roasted meat notes. Palate was a little tight on first taste, but unwound slowly to show sweet cassis, dark cherries and savoury, wet earth notes along with a dried meat, umami undercurrant - all undergirded by firm, yet fine tannins and supported by a lovely sense of balance and structure. Lots of depth and concentration here. Finish was long, lingering and grippy, with tobacco smoke and a touch of ripe, bittersweet stems. This was great to drink, and yet had a very serious edge to it - a very complete wine, capable of developing into something great in 5-7 years time.

ICCCW wine class (Jade Palace Forum): Lovely leathery notes, meats, exotic brushwood notes, volatile wave of green peppers , tobacco and evolved with beautiful roasted meat aromas. Beautifully structured palate with nice al dente weighted fresh fruits. Succulent blackcurrants with nice acidity and ethereal finish. The palate just grows on you and increasingly becomes more addictive , silkier and enticing. The complexity shows and is truly a complete wine . Soft yet firm. Excellent wine! Drinking now with a long long way to go.

First encounter with Figeac. A lot of tobacco in the nose, gradually giving way to more herbs. Very little fruit. Good structure, with the acidity more pronounced than the tannins. This will live for many years, but is accessible already today.

3rd drunk of 6 bought as futures. Popped and poured at BYOB dinner. Started out slowly and thought it was going to be like the first two which were very good, but missing something. After an hour, magic in the glass. From almost no nose to a vibrant expansive bouquet. Very floral with plum and cherry. Nice dark ruby in color. Really interesting palate of coffee, cocoa, rose and plum. A tad disjointed as the fruit seemed to come and go. Starting to drink very well, but another year or two and/or a several hour decant wouldn't hurt. So different from the Graves and St. Estephe drunk side by side which are much more cabernet based.

Drank from cellar when some friends came around but that was a mistake - he is from South America and she from middle east and it just wasn't the night to experiment with a Bordeaux that wasn't ready. Decanted for about 45 minutes which wasn't long enough. Either way - I liked it and drank everyone else's when they left! Soft tannins, complex like a great cup of tea but too closed off without much fruit apparent. Wonderful color. The other bottles can wait a while (which is fine since they are 1500 miles away).

Very enjoyable, but different than Figeacs I have had in the past. Opened, but not decanted, an hour before drinking. Dark purple plum. Reticent nose of black currant, coffee and forest floor. Some soft tannin still showing, but not drying. Interesting on the palate with merlot predominate. Not fruity, but coffee, earth, charcoal and bordeaux dust balanced on an integrated palate. Would have liked some fruit, but very good nonetheless. A few more years or a good decant for the next one.

From memory. Decanted about 2 hours plus before serving. I distinctly remember this wine having a dark garnet color to it with a lovely and vibrant hue throughout. Unfortunately this wine is way to young to open now and not showing it's stuff. Mostly primary fruit aromas and flavors on the palate. The structure is there, just needs more time in my opinion. Therefore no rating at this time.

Deep robe of purple--one of the denser wines I have seen. This is the first of a case purchase many moons ago (first tranch from Acker Merril). Initial nose and taste of bell pepper mixed with a stemmy finish. There is a fair load of fruit and tannin mixed in--I will be interested to see how this progresses over the night. Dinner will be rib steaks in an early summer swoon--it is 88* at 5pm.
So, on to dinner an hour later. Brilliant steaks and just the fit: lovely fried rice with mushrooms and a green salad--savory and satifying. The wine has mellowed some showing more depth, fullness and pleasant fruit. The bell pepper streak remains, but not in an uncomfortable amount. Those drinking near term would be wise to provide 90 minutes of decanting; I would suggest this wine will be entering its phase of maturity from 2010 onward.

Decanter Bordeaux Fine Wine Encounter (The Landmark Hotel, London): Nose surprisingly mute. Medium bodied with intense ripe fruit and a spicy, peppery profile common across all three of the Figeac's tasted today. The palate is sexy and lush, balanced and restrained. Beautiful and complex nose of currant, olive, cedar, and dried herbs. In the mouth, though, is where it's really great: lots of umami forest/mushroom flavors, but also currant, cranberry, round and full cherry, and black raspberry with coffee and chocolate on the finish. Though it still had a touch of bell pepper, bottle was notably less green than the '98 or previous bottles of the '00. Great wine.

Deep purple and ruby color. Very expresssive nose of cedar, menthol and juicy berry fruit. Fantastic mouth feel, very sexy and velvety, with impressive mouth filling volume but not heavy in any way. Very complex flavors dance around your mouth, this wine is really beguiling, I'm smitten. The tannins were noticeable but very well integrated into the structure, and were really quite balanced by superb fruit and flavor. The finish is mouth coating and persistent. Overall a great, very complex tasting St. Emilion and for a 2000 drinking very well at 6 years of age.

On the nose the wine is already quite evolved with notes of mushrooms/sous-bois, a bit of menthol, the typical blackberries. Very profound and complex nose. On the palate the wine is like silk, very elegant, tannins well integrated, superb balance, it coats the mouth: delicious. The finish is at the same level as the rest, impressive. This is really one of the most delightful Bordeaux I've had so far. We didn't even have to decant it. What was impressive about this wine was certainly not the first 5 minutes, but more the fact that we couldn't keep away from it. My last words, while looking at the empty bottle in my hand: "The only problem with this bottle... is that it was only 750ml"

Tasted at the Geyser Peak Blind Tasting Challenge. The retailer was selling this for $77. Dark purple color. 35% Cab Franc, 35% Cab Sauv, and 30% Merlot. Aromas of green bell pepper, black raspberry, and cocoa. Woody, toasty oak overwhelms flavors of wild strawberry and rhubarb. Polished texture, and a sharp tannic finish. A bit awkward and green.

Beautiful nose of blueberries, cedar, and violets.
Figeac 2015 - 93+
Just a little less of everything compared to the 2016, but a great wine. I'd say the 2015 is a little more extracted and blind I would've said it was from a warmer vintage than 16 without knowing if that is true or not.
Figeac 2010 - 91
Not decanted, which probably was not in its favor, and opened later than the younger bottles. At least 10 years from peak. Quite muted compared to 15 and 16 but some tertiary aromas of truffles and cigars showing. Tannins still have a real bite. I would guess this was just the wrong night for this bottle.
Figeac 2000 NR
I don't know, this was volatile and had a lot of pyrazine/very green notes. Others liked it though, so it was probably a bottle thing. Of course it had some mature bdx-charm but this is not what I'm looking for in an aged bottle.
Petit Figeac 2019 - 91
Attacking, blue/black fruits, plums, bell peppers, dry tannins, and some bitterness (from oak?) in the end. Not my preferred style, but quite straight-forward and drinking.

Final excepcionalmente largo. Un vino tremendo.

Excellent.

Bouquet with lots of primary fruit of cassis and blackberries mixing with noble wood. The palate is medium to fullbodied with a good length.

2000 chateau Figeac.

(IG)

This doesn't seem as fresh and vibrant as I remember it being, but this has been maturing nicely. I imagine this is on the cusp of some full-fledged secondary development (in half-bottle), so I would hold this for a few more years to see this truly blossom.

So be it.

Medium concentration, bitter, iron, austere and a medium long slightly bitter finish. It is the least concentration and most ready wine of the night. My guess is that it is one of the lesser chateau. A couple tasters really like it. For me a disappointment considering the pedigree and vintage.

It is actually quite enjoyable and I almost don't want to seal up the remaininder to try to see if I can return it.... so classicly Figeac, but this is corked :(

"The day is the day": TK is turning 29.5 years old (Zurich): Tasted blind: Nose of coffee and leather but much less "pungent" than other Figeacs. Still very young with hard tannins and lots of tartiness. Put this wine aside for a few more years or give it a few hours in the decanter. Drink 2015 - 2025.

94 points.

the bottle was generously shared by cjs at our central jersey ct offline tasting. he made this selection after i told him that i was bringing the 1975. we both marveled at how similar the two wines were despite 25 years between vintages. of course, the 2000 was much more youthful and vibrant, but the fruit and earth components in both were unmistakable. i agree with others that the 2000 has a certain greenness which will hopefully subside as the years go by. i also agree with others that the wine seems to be maturing more quickly than one might expect given the vintage. enjoyed by all. thanks, cj.

En Magnum.

Bottle 1.

Classique.

Deep crimson colour, very rich nose of some mint and coffee, luscious black fruits in the mouth with profound depth, and just incredible length on the finish. It's a pricey bottle and I've come around to thinking it's worth every cent. I would just strongly recommend a 12-24 hour decant.

Soft tannins, complex like a great cup of tea but too closed off without much fruit apparent. Wonderful color. The other bottles can wait a while (which is fine since they are 1500 miles away).

Beautiful, like a rive-gauche rather than a rive-droite. Elegant, refined, complex, layered. The most impressive notes are cigar box and ceder wood. Need time to mature.

A pretty good figeac, I had hoped this would have shown better but my friends loved it. Definately herbaceous, perhaps too much for my liking, decent on the palate, but I like the 90 alot better at this point in its evolution....

This is showing well but no doubt the best is yet to come. 92+

This has a glorious nose but is too young to drink at its best now. the tannins aren't integrated enough, but I think this will be a very good wine in teh future.

Always ethereal and balanced. Nose of currant and coffee More of the same on the palate. Deep garnet in color. No tannins and ready to drink, but I will wait 2 years for perhaps some added complexity.

Great wine.

Still red/purple to rim. Developing bouquet of coffee, woodlands. Expressive palate, very long. Good weight for a meal with lamb. No big fruit, but what got me into fine wine in the first place, a wine of singular character. Many years left, but a pleasure now.

OL At panos and Edith (Strasbourg): Shows some small herbal notes in the nose as well as some incense and cherry. In the mouth however it is slighly thin and herby with a somewhat mineral, earthy finish with ta hint of spice. I thought it was quite closed at the moment. I noted it 2.5 out of 5
